I ventured to Tesco on Sukumvit two days ago to buy some general household goods, all of which I gave away before I left the home country. I'm no miser or cheap charlie but I do note prices when I shop. I find some items here are lower than I anticipate and others are surprisingly higher. In general I found Tesco clearly marked the prices for things. Anyway, I picked out a trash can and then later found another one in a different isle I liked much more. I believe it was in the low two hundreds but when I got to the register it rang up as bt.422. I thought about saying something but then figured it wouldn't matter as I'd just have to pay what the register says. Was I correct in that assumption? Are prices listed just to serve as a possible guideline? I accept the fact that things aren't similar to my home country I just like to know how they are different. Also I plan to buy a microwave today. Do I have anything more than a "walk out the store with it guarantee". I recall in the PI when I bought a DVD player they checked it at the store to varify it worked and gave a two week (14 days) warranty. Sure enough in 8 days it stopped working and I returned it only to find they said it would take a month to send it to Manila to have it repaired. They kept that promise and I did get it back in a month in working condition. How do warranties work in Patts? I'd appreciate knowing the ground rules.

Fake goods worse in Pattaya than BKK
9cisco999 replied to peckerwood's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
if you can get a serial number from an iPad you're considering buying you may be able to call Apple and confirm its not fake or stolen. (1 800 my apple) -
that proof of residence seems to be a grey area. i didn't see it on the retirement visa requirements. I wonder if it's just a Jomtien requirement. the new residence posting must have been after I received my visa at the end of august. I had no rental agreement and wasn't asked about one. the OP should also be aware that leaving the country without notifying the immigration office and paying a fee will invalidate the retirement visa. this can be avoided by paying bt.3800 for an unlimited multi entry visa stamp.

Is a man considered a "loser" because he doesn't do to others what he doesn't like done to himself?

A search rendered 6 threads using the word bicycle with one about a bicycle shop run by Thaiempire in Jomtien. The very end of the thread had a post by Thaiempire saying he stopped his club and that his lady friend is now renting bicycles. Does anyone know where I can rent a bicycle now?

New First Class Bus Khon Kaen to Pattaya
9cisco999 replied to Dr Mick's topic in Transport in Thailand
Excellent info Mick. Thank you. The price is absolutely reasonable. The lady I'm with is from Khon Kaen and just told me the regular bus was around bt.200. Same 9 hour trip. I wouldn't think twice about paying the extra bt.350 for a relaxing and pleasant trip as opposed to one that just served the basic purpose. Can you please explain a little about the internet connection? bring your own cable or is there WiFi? -
It seems to me there are fewer empty seats in beer bars when I walk around and the place where I'm staying is starting to fill up. I'm no longer the only person on a floor with 15 rooms. The two train trips I took recently were full up I can''t speak for the revenue the bar are taking in but it looks like the low season is over and finished.

it is a bank and my lady friend says it's Thai characters. I also though it's not Thai. I really like these old photos.

Even though this photo was taken in 1990, there's still Arabic banners across the soi in this photo.

translation service in Pattaya?
9cisco999 replied to 9cisco999's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Are you suggesting an online translation service? I'd like a storefront service for a couple of reasons Again does anyone have a translation service they can recommend, please? Edit: few changes -
I need to write a letter of introduction (short) and have it translated into Thai. Would someone please make a recommendation as to where I can have it done in Pattaya?

I need to send a fax with private information. Where can I safely do it in Pattaya?

Would the suggestion of a severe public whipping be appropriate? And why not some drawn and quartered? LOL

I may be mistaken but I believe the books listed on Kindle that are free are so because they were copyrighted prior to 1923. From a faulty memory, I thought a copyright was good for 75 years.

I have a Thai bank account but have as yet only deposited to it. Is it policy in Thailand banks to offer a customer service of making change for 1K notes to smaller ones as well as rolls of 10 baht coins? Will I be turned back if I ask for 100 bt.50 notes and say 200 bt20? Will I hear not possible or is it possible? Having smaller notes makes some aspects of life here easier.

Then just post it and help me out as well. Have a heart for those of us with impaired memories. tanks
