I don't use A PC but for those who do this may be of benefit. one recent poster talked about a lack of phone service where he was in the province. maybe this would help .

It was exclusively early safe haven for me.

QUOTE (Fondles @ Jun 6 2010, 09:16 PM) Exactly, I agree 100%. What I don't agree with is the fact the OP wants the same coin for a secondhand Lappy as to what it can be purchased new, infact its priced secondhand nearly $50.00 USD more than a new one, that $50.00 would nearly cover shipping so add 20% import tax and you can have a new one delivered from the states for an extra 4000b. I think the OP is having a laugh as well and will never get near his asking price but your idea of sending it through customs could see it get stuck there for a millennium unless you hand over a king's ransom to Somchai and his friends. In any case, if someone is living in Thailand, you've got to be hard pushed to need a laptop in the first place (as a necessity, as opposed to a PC) and if you do, then buying a new one with an extended guarantee, such as the very well thought of 3 year guarantee from Acer, would be the only logical thing to do. Buying second hand would offer you diddly squat protection if it broke 5 minutes later and as such, you'd only be prepared to buy one at a very steep discount. Actually, a second hand one from a Thai retailer, bought from someone in Thailand is worth more money, as at least it could be repaired under guarantee. I look at it differently in that I figure a laptop is meant for portability. Lugging around a 17" model is not my idea of a walk in the park. I prefer a 12" or 13" model that can for all intents and purposes do just the same as a 17" model in most makes.. But to each his own. the price is probably fair for LOS, but that ain't saying much..

It was a few years back when I made reservations to fly 400 miles in this great state of California. not a long trip as it's only an hour to go from San Francisco to Los Angles. Some how I managed to check with the ticket seller and learn that a one way ticket was more than a round trip ticket. It was only a buck or two more but I could only wonder who on earth would ever buy a one way ticket and pay more than a round trip. Hell i told the seller fuck the round trip ticket and just give me two one way tickets. I'd feel better knowing I paid more than I needed to. That pricing then and now baffles me.

I wonder if your friend meant "Jail broken and unlocked". hacked implies a totally different thing I think. -

Those pesky Chinese are quick on the draw. I was a cheap charlie a couple of years ago and bought a give away Cert phone which was a nearly exact copy of the iPhone. Only problem was I couldn't get it set up for the internet in the PI with either Smart or Globe. they each told me it didn't have the correct settings. And then the darn screen got cracked and the phone was relegated to a gift to one of the sweet babes of the PI. Since it was a Chinese knock off it couldn't be repaired in the Philippines. it's better to go for the chinese model. simple that way. Apple is expensive and completely worthless in the eyes of many. I, however, got hooked when a rep in a store said to me as I was considering my first Mac, " I'ts really kind of hard to screw up a mac". Five years later, I have to agree with him although I've certainly tested the Macs to the limit. I recommend you buy the real deal if you're so inclined to own an iPad and insure you're a happy camper. you won't regret it. Just get over the cost factor and buy quality. It's only money and you only go through this thing once. -
Pretty cool thinking IMHO A T &T leaves a bit to be desired. The lock thing in the USA sucks. I paid full boat for my phone but still i was and am a 4th class consumer for doing so. i simply own a super phone. no regrets http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFRuLFR91e4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAxdd_Edmf8...feature=related

I'd bet more than a few baht it's an absence of chlorine in the pool to kill all the nasty shit that thrives there.

The OP starts out with a price of bt. 1700 as I read it. In the quote it shows bt. 1300. looks like the figures got messed up. -
mystery solved i used firefox as the browser and was able to change the setting to rich Text. At least tht brought about the scrolling feature of the board. that's again for the help.
-
Thanks to you both. I have no idea what I may have done as I don't recall doing anything to make a change on the board settings. things seem a littl different from your description since as you can see, options and controls are on the left hand side of the page. Maybe I'm just out of luck on this one. sorry on how I screwed up the screen shot and double posted.

I didn't log on for a few days and then when I did, the format for pattayatalk had drastically changed on my screen. No longer could I scroll down and read each post. Instead, all I saw was the original post and then all replies in the thread listed as a link at the bottom of the page. At first I though it might be an attempt to "go green" in regards to bandwidth. did I make a change unknowingly somehow? By circumstance I have a Macbook Air ( version 10.5.8) where this situation exists but just discovered on my old Powerbook G4 which runs version 10.4.11, I can still scroll and view each thread without clicking on a link below. It's just as it used to be. Any ideas?

I wish that was true....I admit to being anal about fucking cockroaches. Ants don't bother me in the least unless they're of the biting variety. I find them interesting along with other colony type insects.

I truly respect all the efforts you've made to address this bullshit. good luck with your battle. -
Jacko When you refer to the region lock after 5 changes are you talking about going to 5 different regions or just going back and forth between say the USA and LOS a few times? To your knowledge, can the region lock be unlocked as can a sims card? Thanks in advance.

I too offer my sympathies for a crappy situation. At the same time I strongly urge you to be very careful before you try to take things into your own hands. Although it wasn't necessary, Warren Fellows book certainly convinced me that walking away has to be the best option compared to spending any time locked up in a jail in SEA. You would not be of much use to your family while locked away. LOS is not that while incarcerated in Thailand. I sincerely wish you a successful solution to this horrible picture you describe.

It is encouraging to read about the possibilities one has regarding a monthly budget. I guess I tend to fall in line with the original poster. Although I tend to be reasonably thrifty due in part to a non-materialistic nature, I haven't even began to come close to the bugets mentioned by so many on my three trips to the PI. The first two trips came in at $10,000 each for 8 weeks while the last one was roughly $7500 for the same time frame. The difference with the last trip is that I spent every minute of the time with my GF. Even though I tried to watch my money carefully and never paid more than $44. for a hotel room the costs just seemed to add up. (Admittedly for three out of the 8 weeks we brought along at least two relatives at my suggestion) We island hopped a bit but only went to a couple of bars in Manila for music entertainment. But the costs add up. When I eventually live in SEA i hope I find the key to better money management.
