10k a month will get you a months rental of a studio in places such as Yensabai, Jomtien Thip, View Talay 1 or Baan Suan Lalana. You'll get a basic condo unit of between 26m2 and 45m2 with a bed, a wardrobe, TV, a fridge and maybe an electric ring or a microwave for cooking. There'll be a separate bathroom with toilet, handbasin and electric heated shower. 15k - 20k will get you a larger studio / 1 bed unit 45m2 - 70 m2 in places such as Executive Residence 1, View Talay 5 or Nova Mirage. With the extra space, there is likely to be a European kitchen and generally the materials used and the finish will be a vast improvement over the lower priced units. IMO, this price range provides rooms equivalent to a 3* / 4* hotel. 20k - 40k will get 1 bed / 2 bed units in the 60m2 - 100m2 size and in the present depressed market there are good deals at the top end of this range as many properties previously rented out at 55k - 60k a month are now being let at 40k on 6 month - 12 month deals. For instance, a 2 bed 100m2 luxury condo in Regent Pratumnak can be had for 40k at the present time. 50k - 100k moves into the higher floor 2 bed condos in places like Northshore, Executive Residence, Chateau Dale or Royal Cliff. In general, there is more space as these tend to be 100m2 - 150m2 in size. 100k+ is for the more exclusive developments and penthouse units. The 350m2 penthouse condo on the 42nd floor of Sky Beach, Wongamat Beach is the 150k property referred to by Jacko. At this level, you will get the best views and the highest quality finish available in Pattaya. As a rough guide, rental figures for the bottom end of the market are .75% - 1% of capital value per month, the mid market .5% - .75% and the top end .33% - .5%.

A good night was had. First stop of the evening was for the opening night of Banana Bar to see TheFiend and his lady. A couple of rather fine looking ladies in attendance (previously working as dancers in Angelwitch) and BM's Gus and Hammer turned up as well. The evening at the Cherry Bar started quietly, but ended up with a number of BM's in attendance. A good night and plenty of laughs. -
I've used both Mr T and Mr Toom and found them both to be okay. Not the newest vehicles, but clean and reliable. Mr T is cheaper than Mr Toom by a couple of hundred baht.

And alone? It will be strange not seeing you around tonight my friend after 12? / 13? weeks. BTW, it'll still be c. +30 here -
Good talking with your and your lady last week about your new venture. I shall pop in for an early doors beer tomorrow night. Which side of the complex as you walk from 2nd Road did you say it was?
-
Yes, TukCom is the big building about 100 yards down on the right hand side of Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya Road) as you head from the traffic light intersection with 2nd Road. (More or less opposite the intersection of Pattaya Tai and Soi Buakhouw) Personally, I'd still look to go 'cheap' and simply use a crossover Ethernet cable to hook the two machines up and then run a VNC server on the 'headless' machine.

Without a return ticket within your permitted 30 days, you could be refused carriage by the airline as they would be held responsible to return you if the Thai Immigration refused you entry. If you were to pre-book a ticket to leave Thailand within the 30 days, then I believe that you would be okay, but I would agree with Evil and the best action is to get yourself a 'proper' visa.

3rd floor in Tukcom, there's a shop with various cables in boxes on the floor. To the right, they have shelving with several KVM units available. As an alternative, why not just use VNC (Virtual Network Computing),and run a remote desktop?

Can't see that costing a lot -
Switched over from ToT to TT&T today and everything works! Mails are getting delivered and response times are generally good.
-
ToT has been dire during the past week. In addition to the regular DNS timeouts (I'm now using OpenDNS), there is a bigger problem with their SMTP server failing to pass on mail messages, so the sending of mail is a bit of a lottery at the moment. The only way to determine if a mail has been sent is to cc yourself on every message. Will be on TT&T from the end of this week, so we'll see if that's any better.

What a turnout last night! Kev0184, Green Malaka, SuffolkCouple, SexyBeast & Bangkoknick (+2), Talen and his brother, Onelilleys mate (sorry I can't remember your name), Eric. PharangBah (+1) and other non-boardies. Several barfines so the staff were happy as well. (One girl was even barfined twice during the night) Thanks for all the beers guys, it was a fun night even though the hangover this morning wasn't. Tonight there's an informal bar crawl starting at the Queen Vic on 6 at 6. -

Do you really think Adam has anything to do with it? From my understanding, he simply gets informed who is now 'on the books'. -

No, but it's all very confusing (Isn't it always?) -
Are you really sure about that claim? I think you'll find it became an 'urban myth' after the quote in the film Rainman. (Hey I heard it in a Hollywood movie, so it must be true ) Charlie: Ray, all airlines have crashed at one time or another, that doesn't mean that they are not safe. Raymond: QANTAS. QANTAS never crashed. Charlie: QANTAS? Raymond: Never crashed. Charlie: Oh that's gonna do me a lot of good because QANTAS doesn't fly to Los Angeles out of Cincinnati, you have to get to Melbourne! Melbourne, Australia in order to get the plane that flies to Los Angeles! Since the release of the film, there have been a few 'accidents' involving Qantas aircraft. Qantas originally called this an 'incident' but after the enquiry that showed the airlines procedures and pilot training to be at fault, it was officially recognised by the airline as an accident. Flight QF1 landing at Bangkok from Sydney on 23rd September 1999 Qantas spent $100 million repairing this old 747-400 - WAY above its current full sale value. WHY?? So they could continue to claim in advertising they had never lost a jet aircraft in a crash. There were actually several fatal accidents in the early days of the airline with smaller propellor powered aircraft; the last being in 1951, and then in 1960, there was the first true 'airliner' accident for the airline when a Lockheed Constellation (possibly the most beautiful airliner ever built IMO) overran the runway on takeoff in Mauritius. Then there was the incident detailed above in 1999. There have also been other serious accidents (a definition used by the airline itself) such as in April 2000 when an undercarriage strut snapped as the aircraft was turning for take-off at Rome and in May 2006, there was another 'accident' when the pilot managed to hit a wall with the wing whilst taxiing to its gate at JFK. (Sorry to be so 'anal' but I do get pissed off with some of these commonly quoted 'facts' that are in truth just 'urban myths')

I took my laptop along to Noi's on Saturday night and the girls had a laugh interacting with the guys online. I took a few pictures as requested and posted them to the Pattaya-Live site. Just a bit of a laugh as you're right on the Soi and it is highly unlikely that yoiu are going to be caught for anything more than a kiss and a cuddle. The girls kept running to the centre table to wave so that the guys could see them better.

IMO ypu should have done what you'd have done at any hotel you were staying in anywhere in the world. If you have concerns over the security / privacy of your belongings, then speak to the management immediately. If you have doubts that you would have locked up properly due to too mch drin or in a hurry, then just be more aware in the future. I don't really understand what you are expecting people to post in this thread unless you are seeking a bunch of 'They're just a bunch of crooks in Secrets'.

Any details on telephone numbers for booking at short notice and room rates? Just out of curiosity
