  1. Anyone who visited Jerusalem to follow the route of the cross, might enjoy this fim. The route, wich I did in the 70's now goes through about 5 gift shops, and for a religous person, I imagine, a big dissapointment I was kibbutzing for 3 months, but did my tourist bit too. The tackiness of it was not lost on someone like me, a Pilgrim would have been highly miffed. As far as entertainment value, it's not my cup of tea, English Judas or not. Give me Indiana Jones any day. :)
  2. You mean the paint makes them safer ? The priority is, to get them earning their keep I would think, no matter what colour they are. I can't afford to have my car resprayed , gawd knows what a blooming airplane is !! What would you say to a surcharge for a paint job ?
  3. John, these places you have lived in. Are you talking about prisons ? You know an island off the south coast- Parkhust ?
  4. Err, Duffabboy, I was having a pop at JohnUK. Of course we dont talk in complete rhyming slang, no one ever did, just the odd word. Dont be in such a hurry to rubbish your London culture, it is a dying thing. Blimey, where I live, straight English is almost an endangered species. :)
  5. Hang on old chap.. you come from the northeast and you are judging other peoples' rendition of the Queens English ? By jove, but, your a canny lad and no doubt about it !
  6. We dont 'arf 'ave a good larf when we 'ere yooo posh lot wiv a plum in ya maaf, gafawwing. Where else would find such colourfull language with so many slangs ? We have a language of our own- Rhyming slang wich many people use without realising, as it becomes part of the language... Use your loaf, me old China, I've got a pony says you won't find such diversity in a university. I think the educated idiots would struggle to keep up with such a thing. Any way I'm off down the frog to the rubberdub for a pigs-ear. Toodle-Pip Old Chap!
  7. So, we have John Wayne with a bad Roman accent. Mel Gibson with a bad Scots. But I defy any one to beat Dick Vandykes- Gawd bless ya, Mary Poppins ! As a Londoner, to me it is like listening to chalk on a blackboard -aaahhhh stop it !! The American ladies seem to do a much better job of sounding English. Gwynith P. in the Shakespeare in love for example. :)
  8. The last few films made by Mel G- Braveheart & that one about the American Civil War were so anti- English that even the film critics began to pick up on it. Mel became a very unpopular man in England. I think, as a Catholic, he has not forgiven old Henry VIII for creating the Church of England. Most bad guys in American films have an English accent, even old Shia Khan in Jungle Book ! Get it now ? Happy St. Georges Day for tommorow.
  9. Anyone seen that new Mel Gibson film about the crucifiction of Christ ? I was wondering if he managed to give Judas an English accent, and had him spending the money on warm beer and fish & chips ! Even if he hasn't, I bet he wanted to.
  10. Am in town next month and thought it would be a good time of year to get some prescription sun glasses. My freinds went to the Op's in Mikes last trip, but had a bit of aggro with end product. Anyone had good or bad service in this area ? Would appreciate any advise. Cheers
  11. Thing is Ray, Claudia only had to do it once for her penance. That was ample punishment :crying
  12. This not eating lamb is a mistery to me also. Some while back I was enjoying roast lamb at Palmers and mg GF went off to get her usual from the stalls nearby. When she came back she took a mouthful of meat thinking it was beef, but realised it was not beef. When she realised it was lamb she spat it out and started heaving, I thought she was larking about. The best explanation I could get is that lamb is too pretty to eat, a bit like I won't eat veal. Not because it is pretty althought it is, it's that my Dad used to take me to cattle markets when I was young and I got so upset seeing the c
  13. I do want to grow up- well old anyway, thats my point. These buggers could foil my plan.
  14. Ray Had a dream the other night about the lottery. I was in a pub at home and a guy was selling Thai lottery tickets. One had just number 19 on it and the other ended with 60. It could be a premenition or I was returning to the decade of my youth. I'll give them a go next month.
  15. Emil. I havn't joined the members caper ,cos I am an open man and use the open forum, Seems a bit like joining the Masons, I'll have to look out for those handshakes next time I'm in FLB. But I might give it a go, Don't knock it till youv'e tried it I suppose.
  16. You make a good point. All women have a good idea of what their looks are worth to the opposite sex. Ever see a rich pesonality/sportsman with an ugly bird ? There is no such thing as a free lunch/woman.
  17. 1/ People watching along Walking Street/Pussey Promenade, sorry - Beach road. 2/ Buying selected things at 1/2 price of home, or less. :) 3/ Laying in till early afternoon & knowing you can do last night all over again tonight.
  18. At least a bit of controversy, got a few posts on the forum. Over 4800 members and an average of 5 or 6 posts a day, or am I missing something ?
  19. Wombat. I love your 1 liner posts.. To the point, heartfelt and true
  20. I always use the taxi rank through doors after Thai limo desk. My GF was aproached by Thai rep for "Limo". I couldn't understand what was said, but rough translation- GF- How much ? THai rep- 1800 bt ! GF- your having a laugh ! I'm not a tourist you know! At the taxi desk you get a written price 1300bt plus tolls, after 16 hours travelling, that will do me, it always facinates me how the GF chats to driver as if they were old freinds, she decides if they deserve a tip or not, !
  21. Eric, it is a good policy to carry your passport, or photocopy at all times while in LOS. A freind of mine was asked for his by the police one evening, it was at hotel, so was told to bring to police station next day, he almost missed his flight home. Thats why I like multi-pocket shorts , room for everything, even GF's purse. It does give you unsightly bulges below the waist, but that doesn't bother me.
  22. RayW. You have found an honest and reliable Estate Agent ? With that kind of luck, I want to join your lottery syndicate!
  23. Laffnliv, I understand your view. And I can relate to your situation regarding your own family. It is important to be as open with your Thai lady as you can. Mine has met my family, including my seperated wife, and they are all very fond of each other, I wonder if that would change should I divorce and re-marry ? My GF has told me that if I should propose, she would say yes, but she does not expect me to, this however is not a problem for her, as long as we see each other as often as we can, she can live with that. And, absence does make the heart grow fonder. Think I will grow
  24. I was just wondering, how many of you have a regular Thai lady, but have not got married ? I have had same lady for over 2 years, and am sometimes asked if I will ever marry. My answer is no, but when asked why, I find it hard to explain. As fond of her as I am, it is difficult to put my finger on one reason alone. My kids love her, she is visiting U.K for 2nd time next month, speaks good English and we get on really well- most of the time ! Is it becoming the family ATM ? Taking on 2 young kids at my age ? The cultural difference ? Would she ever be happy living away from her family,
  25. Likewise, if I had learned from all my mistakes, I'd be a f***ing genius by now
