  1. I sat through a hurricane once, and once is enough. It's amazing how the wind can blow almost nonstop, hour after hour.
  2. There's not a lot the government can do to stop the hurricane, but there's an entire agency called FEMA that has the job of responding. I'm sure Trump will make government resources available to help clean up the mess. Every once in a while I think about buying a condo at the beach, but then something like this happens. I guess that's why insurance rates can be so high.
  3. What's cheap? A place like Sabai Lodge has a good pool or two, but that might not fit your definition of cheap.
  4. I'm not sure about MSG, but there's some ingredient in some foods that occasionally cause me to have an anaphylactic shock type reaction. Itching all over, eyes and throat just about swollen shut, etc. Oatmeal does it for sure, but I've occasionally had the symptoms after eating Chinese and Japanese food. One time, in San Diego, I almost died after eating some Japanese food and then taking a long walk down by the beach. Of course, they put so many different ingredients in Asian food it would be hard to pin down what causes the reaction. Mostly, I try to watch what I eat and hope for the best.
  5. Sounds good. That's for phone as well? Anyway, if you can have phone and unlimited internet for 450 baht a month, that's good. I'd hate to tell you how much my cellphone bill and internet bills are, here in the US.
  6. Anything can happen with the North Korea thing. Anyway, I wouldn't be booking any tickets with a stop in Seoul. Maybe I'm being paranoid?
  7. At this point, I'd make some effort to keep from flying over what might become a war zone.
  8. Sounds like a decent deal to me, for a flight from Chicago.
  9. $600 in the USA for food for two months? That doesn't sound too bad. I don't even bother to keep track of what I spend. I guess I don't really want to know. It seems like every trip to the grocery store costs at least $40.
  10. Old thread. I wonder how much all the prices at these places have gone up since 2012. As for cheap places? There used to be a place on Beach Road sort of near Baywatch that had cheap breakfasts. Never ate there, but every morning there were guys in there eating that looked like that's the only place they could afford to eat.
  11. Maybe, but that shouldn't be a problem. Just ignore them.
  12. Pattaya has so many girls it's almost beyond belief. They are everywhere. If nothing else, people shouldn't overlook the beer bars. There are some real stunners working at some of the beer bars. Of course, with my luck it seems as though I always spot them at the wrong time. They're there, though, for sure.
  13. The whole place is a well run operation, for sure.
  14. That would be my first question. The noise level. The first time I stayed there was way back in 2006, when there weren't so many go go bars in the vicinity.
  15. I went to Kuala Lumpur on a visa run a couple of times. I think it's worth a visit. I was surprised at how clean and modern it was.
  16. Probably not. Anyway, it looks as though each entry on a tourist visa can only be for six months. The visa itself Is good for for five or ten? years.
  17. India. That sounds interesting. I'll have to look into that. I'd like to see it some day.
  18. Isn't there a set of programs you can get for free called "Open Office"? I've used that on occasion with no problem.
  19. Jack Nicholson, Robert DiNiro, Al Pacino
  20. I've eaten there a few times and I also ordered from there when staying across the street. I don't remember what I had, but I do remember that it was good.
  21. Amazon Prine has all the seasons of "Californication." It's worth watching, I think.
  22. Long haul? Back when Thai Air had the nonstop flights between the USA and Bangkok, I took those a few times. Once between JFK and BKK, and a few times, I think, between LAX and BKK. The were scheduled to be 17.5 hours, but the flights sonetimes went quicker. All things considered, I can take it it leave it. I don't mind a short stop in Tokyo and then on to Bangkok.
  23. Yea, that's right across the street. As for the baht buses? Some used to come right down Soi 2. I have had the problem of some going down Beach Road not wanting to stop.
  24. Sabai Lodge? It's down on Soi 2, so a little out of they way, but that's nothing a baht bus ride won't solve.
  25. My advice is to do your research, but don't make any plans. On my first trip had had all sorts of things planned. Within one day the entire itinerary was in the trash can. It's better to just let things happen.
