Just out of curiosity, can you make the report from anywhere in Thailand? Suppose your immigration file is in Jomtien but you're in Phuket?

Hilton or Avani (Marriott) which is better ?
js007 replied to soisurfer's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Last time I checked the rates for the Hilton, I think it was about $189 US dollars per night. A lot of money for Pattaya, where you can stay at a nice guesthouse for $25. -
Hilton or Avani (Marriott) which is better ?
js007 replied to soisurfer's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I guess it mostly would depend on what you want to be close to. Both are good hotels. I'm going to try the Hilton sometime, just for the heck of it. -
I'm not sure about a 9-year-old PC, button the more recent computers, for sure, you can bypass the internal sound card entirely via a USB DAC, which can then be routed to a stereo amp/speakers. Good for decoding various file types as wells the newer MQA files.

I was on a flight once where there was a problem with the plane. It was stopped at 2AM enroute to my final destination. Anyway, it didn't take off on time and, after about a one hour delay, they announced that the plane had a problem and "couldn't be fixed." Everyone had to deplane. Then, after an hour in the transit lounge, they said the plane was working OK and everyone should get back on. Everyone got back on and then there was another delay and everyone had to get back off. Then, the plan was supposedly "fixed" again and everyone got back on. Then, another problem. Finally, some me

How much money do you wang to spend? KEF makes some good wireless speakers, although some of them can be pricey ($2100 or so). I think they also have a cheaper model. Another idea would be to get a Bluetooth gizmo to hook up to your stereo. Then, you can listen to your computer through your stereo.

If the £ drops below 40 Baht, will you still come?
js007 replied to Irish boy's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Yes, to a degree, but it seems a bit silly when it gets to the point where it's a race to the bottom. I'm not sure who benefits from a currency war. -
ZITHROMAX (azithromycin) question
js007 replied to Firepole's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Usually, you only need a prescription for narcotic type drugs. Of course, in Thailand, a particular drug may have a different name than it does elsewhere in the world. -

js007 replied to Irish boy's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Some idiots think a "weak" dollar is a good thing, so every time the dollar inches up a bit against the baht, the start screaming about a "strong" dollar and the damage it is doing to the US multinationals. -
I'm getting ready to go to Thailand for an extended period, so I'll take two 50 lb. bags and a carry on. I might as well take advantage of the baggage allowance, even though I usually hat dragging around a bunch of luggage. I thought about sending more, but the cost for excess baggage seems ridiculous. Something like $430 for one extra suitcase from the USA. Does that sound right? For that much, I can buy a lot of T-shirts and blue jeans in Thailand.

I usually just use the travel search engines to look for good deals and then I check with the airline directly. if the prices are the same or not too much different, I usually try to book with the airline directly. That way, it's easier to make changes, if need be.

What to do if your Luggage doesn't arrive in BKK
js007 replied to Butch's topic in Airline Discussion
The airlines have lost my luggage more times than I can count. They usually find it the next day and deliver it to my hotel. Sometimes I think that's their preferred way of handling luggage. The only way to be sure they don't lose your luggage is to not bring any. -
I just looked at a chart of the Indian currency vs the Thai baht. It has been on a downward trend, so if more tourists are coming from India, it isn't because they get more for their money.

What about some of the places on Soi Lengkee near Soi Boukhao? Close enough to Soi LK Metro, but probably with a lot less noise?

Was it like the food court at the Royal Garden Plaza? Buy a card from the cashier and use it at any of the booths. I ate at that one a few times and it was always packed with people.

Sounds like one of those ideas that might seem like a good idea at first, but probably wouldn't be worth all the trouble in reality.

Just don't make too many plan based on a particular exchange rate. If the baht weakens, fine, but could you get by on 25 baht to the dollar?

In America in areas where they use photo radar to catch speeders, people sometimes use a special cover for their license plates. The cover is made of a plastic that allows the license plate to be read straight on, but an an off-angle, the plate appears to be opaque. Without a good picture of the license plate, the police are unable to identify the owner of the vehicle. Anyway, as part of the photo process, they also attempt to snap a photo of the driver as the car passes, as they can only assess the driver with speeding, not the owner. To further complicate matters, in one state that I'm a

If I tried to eat that I'd probably be sick for a week. One patty is enough for me, once in a while.

I just read some articles about SE Asia and their various central banks. I guess some people are worried that a variety of factors could create a situation similar to that which occurred during the Asian financial crisis of 1998. A stronger dollar would be nice, I guess, at least for those people with dollars to exchange.
-
Twenty years ago, that would be about right. It could get there again, perhaps.

It's not just in Thailand. You can find people like that just about everywhere. Usually, they have a problem with mental illness, alcohol, or drugs. Back in the 70s I lived in NYC, not far from the Bowery and the East Village. Homeless people were everywhere. They'd sleep on the sidewalk, on steps, in doorways, camped out in the park... They'd spend the morning hours asking people for spare change and the afternoon drinking wine or whatever until they passed out. At some point the city of New York made an effort to give them shelter and I suppose that's why they're not still there in

So far, at least, one theory for the stronger dollar is a move out of currencies of emerging markets. A flight to safety, of sorts. However it happens, I'm all for a stronger dollar. Of course, the stock markets are long overdue for a correction, in any event. Nothing makes much sense anymore.

Thanks to the USA - China trade war that's brewing, it might go even higher. That would be nice.

Some airlines in the US charge for every checked bag, so with only a carry-on you'd be getting a discount of sorts. Anyway, if they want to discount international fares based on no checked bags, I don't see a problem.
