I've walked by that place many times, but I never bothered to try it.

So it's cheaper to upgrade at the airport than to buy the more expensive seat in the first place?

Nice pictures. Looks like there's more to do on Boracay than I thought. I guess I somehow had the idea that there wasn't much nightlife there.

"Meet and Greet" for "paupers"! at Suvarnbhum Airport
js007 replied to marleyboy's topic in Airline Discussion
I think the problem usually comes up when you have connecting flights. For example, the last time I had a problem was when my plane was late getting to Detroit for the flight to Japan. I don't think they even tried to transfer the bags. They just shipped them the next day. I almost didn't make the connection myself. -
"Meet and Greet" for "paupers"! at Suvarnbhum Airport

My planes always seem to arrive around midnight. Lots of people at immigration, but they also usually have lots of immigration officers on duty. I'd say the usual wait is around 10 minutes. Then there's the baggage. That can take a while, and if you're lucky they won't lose yours. That seems to happen to me frequently. So frequently that, from now on, I'm taking a carry-on only. -

I'm not sure, but I think they also have a bank. So, you could probably have a stand alone checking or savings account. -

It would seem as though it's congress that's coming up with this strategy. -
US to Revoke/Not renew Passports for Tax deliquency

For what it's worth, setting up a payment plan is usually pretty easy. I think it's almost automatic if you agree to pay off your delinquency within 48 months. Or, you could try to settle for a lesser amount. Sometimes that works. -
I bet some of big hotels do something. The Hilton, maybe? Probably expensive, though.

Maybe the Thai authorities should start handing out stiff fines for people who don't understand that stop means stop? I bet that would work. I've lived all around the USA. In some states, they really do enforce the school zone speed limits. The fine for speeding can be $500. In those states, people pay attention. In other states, the school zone sings are posted, and yet people speed right through. The cops don't seem to care.

Last time I stayed at the Sabai Lodge, they just swiped my credit card when I arrived. Six weeks later, they finally put through the final charges. I'm not so sure I'd want to pay the full six weeks in advance, though. One time in Thailand, I did have to leave on short notice for a family emergency back home. That could be expensive if you'd already paid for a long period, in advance.

When they first put in some of those pedestrian crossings on Second Road, many cars would just drive on through the light, just like it wasn't there. You'd have to be nuts to assume you wouldn't get run over crossing the street, just because there's a crosswalk there with a light.

Unless was a place I knew well, I'm not sure I'd be willing to give them such a large deposit. Come to think of it, the only hotel in Thailand that I ever gave a "deposit" to was the JW Marriott in Bangkok, and that was an unusual circumstance. I hadn't informed my credit card companies that I would be traveling to Thailand, and so when I tried to use my cards, they were "frozen" by the banks. Fortunately, I had travelers checks with me and paid for my room, in advance, with those. When I stay at guest houses, I usually pay each month in advance, once I check in, if I know how long I'm going to be staying. I guess that's different than paying a deposit.

Review: LK The Empress Hotel (w/photos)

I always wondered about that place, but never stayed there. Thanks for the report. -
Lots of places will have something special going on for Thanksgiving. Then again, maybe you won't be that hungry. One time on Thanksgiving I just went over to the Blue Parrot for some Mexican food. I guess that place is long gone.

A few years ago, there used to be a pizza by the slice place on Soi Diana Inn, right near Soi LK Metro. Right next to the drugstore. Not he very best pizza, but it would do late at night if you're already in the vicinity and drunk. I wonder if they place is still there? Otherwise, I've only sampled pizza here and there. One place I tried was just about right across from the Royal Garden Plaza, on 2nd Road. Not bad. And then there was a place right off Soi 7, about halfway down. Forget the name, but they had OK pizzas and other Italian food.

I see the same problem. I try to post something but it seems to get stuck, so I say fuck it and leave. But then when I come back, the post is there. -
So what's the Jet Ski situation like now?
js007 replied to Chester007's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
It would be truly shocking if the Jet Ski scams were stopped for good. -
Compared to going to the new Bangkok airport or Don Muang, how close is U-Tapo?

Delta is just a typical US airlines. Nothing special. One thing of note: until fairly recently, I never once flew Delta when they didn't somehow misplace my bags. Every single time. Lost luggage. They always found it, but sometimes it took them a day or two. After the last incident, I've decided that from now on, I travel with only a carry-on bag.

Good news...big rain today...we needed it
js007 replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Is it just that it can rain so hard so fast, or does Thailand need some instruction in how to properly construct storm drains?
