  1. I was pointing that its illegal in Thailand, but they turn a blind eye to that as well.
  2. Then don't go there. That's what freedom is about.
  3. I've never figured out why people travel around the world to visit a country that doesn't enforce their nanny state laws so we can experience a little freedom, like not enforcing the laws against prostitution, nudity in bars, etc, but then are offended when they also don't enforce the law against smoking in the bars.
  4. Are the crackdowns over? Wheels up in 3 days!
  5. All of the ones I've tried around the WS area have a 20 bill limit. So 20K until they run out of 1K bills then 10K in 500 Baht bills.
  6. Never stopped in 30 years of travelling to Thailand. My upcoming trip goes through Dubai, though, and I understand they've got a hardon for Dubai duty free bags, so I may get stopped this time. I'll be within the limits though, so no problem.
  7. I've been planning the move for quite a while, now I've got 2.5-3.5 years to go. My cash flow should be more than enough so I won't have to work. I may move some of my investments from the west, though, as a currency hedge. If I do, I'm more comfortable in the markets than with a business, so I'd most likely put it into the SET. About the only business I'd be interested in is perhaps as a landlord with apartments/shops like your friend. It would have to be large enough to be able to pay a Thai manager, as I wouldn't want to have to deal with the day to day stuff. I've had rental property
  8. Thanks :) she's a good shot and looks good shooting.
  9. You also need to describe the tones, or that doesn't work.
  10. Cool. You learn something new every day. EDIT: probably because I only ever spend time on Thai related forums
  11. I've only ever seen it in Thai related forums.
  12. In case you don't speak Thai, the number 5 is pronouced "ha" in Thai. So 555 = ha ha ha.
  13. As we were decorating the house for Christmas (US) my wife asked if we would do the same after we move to Thailand. I told her no problem with a tree in the house, but no lights outside because I don't want Somchai and his friends to come over wanting to sing Karaoke.
  14. I notice on this format that my old avatar is gone. It was an animated gif. When I go into my controls to reconnect it, the system won't recognize the file type. Are animated gifs no longer allowed?
  15. Nam dtok moo - my favorite, too! Followed by: pud grapow Larb Moo gaiteam prik thai gaeng nomai
  16. Happened to me at TR several years back as well. Chili flavored broth with a little bit of meat in it. Another time a couple years later my wife, who'd become a real cajun food fan since we moved to the states, tried their blackened red fish and was very disappointed. I don't know that I'll try them again. Where is Mike's?
  17. It is that bad. Vehicles barely move on the roads. Farangs lose the plot. Spend Songkran up country where it's still fun.
  18. I'd like to see Green Bay make it, but I agree New England wins whoever they play (damn yankees!)
