  1. That looks like a "Submarine" sandwich - known in Germany as a "U-Boot" (just throwing more oil on the fire....)
  2. Looks great, seriously... that grilled squid OMG... Miss you my friend! Andy Cap
  3. "One-of" or "one-off" - clearly a very special special !! Maybe the last of a batch of steaks being sold off? Are steaks of the imported variety chilled or frozen (frozen steaks are no good in my experience)? Top-grade Thai steak? I saw a thing on French TV recently where French breeders are crossing Charolais with Thai ox-looking cattle - by artificial insemination, presumably because the Thai lady-cattle are not pretty enough(?). Here you go - a link http://www.thaifrenchbeef.com/PYK_ENG.html
  4. "Toelingus" - that sounds nasty!
  5. Those last pics are a bit mega-yum! Are the tacos deep-fried tortillas? (Just had Flo-made fish "en papillote" for lunch) Andy
  6. The important thing to note (correct me if it's been covered above) is that THE OPTIONS and ROUTES "TO" and "FROM" WALKING STREET ARE DIFFERENT. (As above I wouldn't walk there and definitely not back) Going is easy - coming out of Sutus Court onto Soi Buakhao stay on the same side of the road and flag down a bahtbus heading south (i.e. coming from right to left), say nothing to the driver, get in at the back, the bus will go to the southern end of Soi Buakhao and turn right onto Pattaya Tai. At the next traffic lights (crossroads Pattaya Tai and 2nd Road), ring the bell and get off and pay 10bht to the driver. Coming back more options: 1) The "way you came" is complicated as the bahtbuses which head east on Pattaya Tai might OR MIGHT NOT turn left onto Soi Buakhao, the wait at the Soi Buakhao/Pattaya Tai junction might be long to get a SECOND bus that turns left onto Soi Buakhao.... another option here is to walk from the traffic lights, where you got off earlier, EAST on the south pavement/sidewalk past the Night Market (things known and unknown to nibble and the chance to learn from your chosen companion). Max cost 40bht for 2. (2 x 10bht p/p for 2 buses). The bus brings you to Sutus Court directly.... on the right hand side. 2) Bahtbuses queue up at the northwestern corner of the traffic lights crossroads (where you got off earlier) to go NORTH along 2nd Road - as many posters above - and leave when full.... get off at Mike's Mall (left)/Kiss Food (right) and walk down Soi Diana, turn right onto Soi Buakhao and Sutus Court is on your left. Cost 10bht each. Two "gaggin' for it" options: 3) 2 motorbike taxis @ 60bht each 3) If you are with 2 ladies (as I often am) there are always empty bahtbuses parked at the 2nd Road end of the Walking Street soi (14) which starts with Sugar Baby and has Seeclits on it. They will take you anywhere for 200bht... and often have in the past.... Good luck Andy Cap
  7. Back in France now and I try to look at the Special every day to get my appetite going for lunch. It's a rare day when my mouth isn't watering to drool level. I love the little touches - the different jus and the quirky salads..... (tamarind and honey jus and apple and cashew salad will be on our "lunch for two" menu over the weekend). The folks in Pattaya are so lucky...... we wish you had a branch in Cap d'Agde! Andy Cap
  8. Ah... that's what they were... for good luck/keeping evil spirits away?
  9. No translation needed (nuances excepted I suspect). Some good laughs in that. Thanks for posting!
  10. Well done on your 11th birthday Adam! Enjoy your party and have lots of orange squash. Andy & Flo.
  11. Excellent review. I'm now hungry and thousands of kilometres from the Wooden Box. I'll show Flo the pics and see what she comes up with!
  12. I take that back then Mister Egg. State medicine is for citizens of and contributor's to that state - I think the high price was the "falang price" i.e. why aren't you going private, falang? Not sure if MM pays his taxes/contributions here etc..... that would be the major criterion anywhere else in the world. Good experiment all the same. AC
  13. Ils ont l'air "con" Ơ l'hƓpital...... Good read MM! See you tomorrow I hope... Andy
  14. Uncle Ron Bushcraft called me for directions yesterday before his evening out as he'd driven past the place, easily done. Just for the record - Samran Saisam (Saisam means 3rd Road of course - light goes on) - is about 2/3 of the way between Klang and Nua. Look out for the red Thai neon sign in the pic above on the right, it'll be dark so that'll work. DIRECTLY OPPOSITE is a place called Atmosphere with black writing in English on a white light box. Hope to get back there before home time - maybe with Uncle Ron!!!! Wehey! Andy
  15. Had this yesterday afternoon, it was great..... got to taste a dish at last! My guest had Pork Vindaloo (Camargue brown rice in there?) 240bht It would be great to add photos to your paper menu - just a thought. Andy Cap (d'Agde)
  16. My PM to Cerberus after Monday night out at Samran Saisam: "Hi I went to Samran Saisaù with my lady of the moment K this evening, we saw Wassana and had a GREAT time - excellent food (Raw Shrimp Salad and Green Chicken Curry, great staff and service, we both sang with band (not as well as our semi-pro past should have made it - 1K tip for them), and got a few bottles in for a drink on the terrace with them after closing. A really marvellous evening. Flo sends regards! Andy" The band is really excellent - lots of different singers and a partial musician change half way through the evening - a real show with the singers (some very pretty girls) dancing in some nice costumes... great way to have a Thai evening. Half bottle of Sangsom 280bht, I think, with unlimited mixers - we ended up having two.... Neither K nor I are used to singing with monitors so we were a bit under par (not much of a crowd on Monday night so no harm done) and I got the words to Hotel California wrong again - and the video's on their FB page - OMG!!!!!! Andy Cap
  17. Really loved Waterbom park with Flo and the kids in 2003 I think. We have an Aqualand in Cap d'Agde - same same different - but the greenery at Waterbom is stunning.....
  18. I agree Evil, that sausage looks excellent quality, not likely to sweat in the heat..... This is our southern French family reunion meal when someone has been away (last week with our son) - Pierrade-Raclette. You grill the meat on the stone above and the little trays go underneath the stone where the grill is. Although traditionally meant for cheese (you can get raclette cheese ready cut in the supermarket) as in your post, you can make anything - garlic mushrooms, bacon and onion, sliced potatoes, which you top off with cheese or an egg (sunny side up or whisked to make a little omelette). No cooking for Flo and time to get all the news....(the machine is made by Tefal) Andy le Cap P.S. We have a fondue as well (no food fads in France) - try Fondue Vigneronne - red or white wine in the pot with garlic, chopped shallots, thyme, bayleaf.... simmer and dip in meat or seafood (great broth at the end)... less heavy than Savoyarde (dipping bread in cheese) or Bourguignonne (meat in hot oil) - and there's Thai fondue of course......
  19. I need a drool catcher for my keyboard.....
  20. "Bruce Lee kick" - haaaacha! . Added to favourites! Thanks MM.
  21. No mention that he used to be a Zionist strangely..... Just turn the sound off and read the subtitles.....
  22. I have officially given up masturbation in favour of this food thread...... doing myself a pork schnitzel for lunch with some copycat salad...... I would like my name on a seat for one visit a day from 8th to 30th July and am praying to the food "gods" that praise doesn't double the prices before then....
  23. If you haven't seen this - shiitake mushrooms - bloody marvellous!
  24. "mystery bug" "skeleton staff" - one could be forgiven. Can't see the BiteMe food inducing weightloss. As long as it's open early July for me but hoping that the problems can be overcome for everyone's enjoyment.
