  1. Same-same me for Pattaya. Sounds like New Zealand is like the UK, with a wet side and a "dry" side "WWWWW" from school geography has stayed with me. Warm Wet Winds from the West in Winter (thanks Mr Simpson from B******* Comprehensive). By the way, awesum4, I thought the islands of New Zealand were looking a bit smaller, and thought it was rising sea levels - then I read your "Interests". Roll on August.......!
  2. Thanks for that Butch - good format for a thread. Maybe the whole "doomed to failure" thing on the new constructions is a bit premature if the "Entertainment Areas" between Beach Road and 2nd Road are to become "Non-Entertainment Areas" in the near future. Of course Walking Street and, I believe, Soi 6 (with the barfronts closed in) will qualify for UNESCO World Heritage Site status - they'll have to be nominated by another country though. I can't see TOT/LOS putting them forward. Edit - Thanks for the actual thread to FORCEBEWITHU
  3. When I tell French people that Flo and I go to Thailand (cough) in August, they all think we're crazy - "the rainy season?". Well that may be true for tropical Phuket, but not for Pattaya. Jacko was "struggling through the rain" on his bike yesterday (in early June). Isn't this supposed to be the "hot" season? I tell people it just seems to rain when it wants - August no more than anytime else. Some of the photos and vids of Pattaya floods and torrents on the Darkside are positively apocalyptic and the time of year is not predictable. Am I wrong?
  4. Thanks for that jacko. Drew my first lump of cash out of the bank on Friday for the August trip - the days of converting to 40/€ are gone..... my Brit/French neighbour who lives off his pension is suffering too.
  5. Why not? She'd come back a new woman - or maybe that's what you're afraid of... For me, it's BLACK MIRROR - just one at a time because they are so powerfully dystopian - series 3, 4 and 5 now on Netflix here. Watched S3 Ep1 last night, about the artificial bees that replace the real ones that are dying out. Whenever I'm SERIOUSLY bored, that's just the ticket.
  6. Booked three weeks at The Base for August through ManyHoliday (Mike's Mall carpark) via Booking, rather than our usual 1 week found on the ground then move on - 3 different hotels. Not sure if we'll regret it. We live in 40m2 so don't think size will be a problem - saw all the stuff about illegality later and the Bangkok raid. Going to ask for an attestation saying we're staying for a month (and we'll leave early) + a copy of the declaration of stay. Just checked 30967bht for 22 nights = 1408 bht per night (over our normal 1000bht per night budget) = 40€ per night @ 1€ = 35 bht.
  7. Looks like he's getting a great bit of "frottage" in, like he does at home on the Tube, but in riskier circumstances perhaps? That give him extra "frisson". I wouldn't want to be the person in front of him..... I stayed at the Golf Club before it became Queen, don't remember seeing the Base - distracted no doubt..... Good thread. Thanks.
  8. It's not a good joke..... but did the stallholders understand "See Food"? Did it get busier Baz??
  9. Hi Uncle Evil A bit like frogs' legs and land snails... think we'll have the latter for lunch tomorrow, with garlic, parsley, salted butter and black pepper. The Lidl croc steaks were marinated in the same as I remember.
  10. And very nice too. Lidl had some crocodile steaks a few years ago, along with ostrich and kangaroo, from Australia I imagine, sold out quickly, but the French are quite adventurous, and will eat anything if it doesn't involve travel...... .
  11. Al - stop the "sporting activity" - unless it was particularly enjoyable (nudge-nudge)! Is "This America" the name of an insurance company? If it's US$350 go for it - pay cash (i.e. bank card) and complain to your insurance company after. All the best.
  12. Told off by teacher...... so post deleted.
  13. Pedantic me thinks it was Welkom Inn - in Flemish/Dutch. Great thread. That flooding looks horrendous.
  14. Thanks Gottsy - "Baggage" meaning "mind-numbing regrets"...... more BMs than admitted it. Pretty sure we ALL have some..... sorry for the TF. BTW - I, notoriously, always get out of the bed on the same side. People count on it in Purgatory. Welcome to the board.
  15. Sorry if I ruffled your feathers, ducky. I thought it was funny - silly me!
  16. I have partaken on The Poon with she descended from an Egyptian god - a living deity if there ever was one. I just imagined the place knee deep in water and whether the business model could change. On second thoughts, bearing in mind what would be floating and swimming in the water, soap might not do the deal. The rumour of about 10 years ago that LK and beyond would become the new Soi 6/Beach Road is gaining traction - as are the cars and motos on the new surface.
  17. Hands up who has "Thai Baggage".....
  18. Vienna airport is pretty new. There is a security check on leaving the EU which was the hold-up the OP experienced. When we flew a few years ago Austrian via Vienna, you could order business-class meals online in economy for a few euros extra which were pretty good. I'm not sure what I would have answered if asked whether I was flying to Bangkok for "business or pleasure"..... does that make me a snowflake?
  19. Or if Idlewild will then be renamed DJT after The Donut puts back the golf course in between the runways, like at Don Muang! ? (Intrusive apostrophe alert - it's "its" in this case POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES - it's stronger than I am, sorry....)
  20. Priceless..... better value than the restaurant it seems....
  21. That's really handy for a fill-up before the "gauntlet" - can you take us there in August, Uncle Evil? If so, I'll PM when we get there. We can write down transliterations of the food as I assume the menu is in Chinese or Pinyin. Andy & Flo
  22. Sometimes it's nice to just be walking by a place and make an impulse buy....... there seem to be so many new eateries!!! Looking forward to sampling! Thanks again Evil.
