  1. First off I don't own the condo, I do not know the owner, nor am I getting a commission. An Englishman who is good friends with a falang and his wife who live at my appartment has been stricken with cancer and is planning to return to England soon after he gets out of the hospital. He is selling his condo which is located at View Taley 2B for 2.3M baht. Its a 1 bedroom,1 bath and I was told its 82 sq meters. Its located on the 5th floor and faces south. I took a quick look at the place today, nothing fancy about the place but it did have a nice pool. I have no idea if that is a good price or not, it works out to about 28,000 baht per sq meter which seems decent. He will be leaving most of the furnishings. I'm only posting to help out the guy and maybe help out a BM if they are looking for something like this. Alan if you read this please comment on the price, also what would one expect for a monthly rent if they wanted to purchase this for an investment. If anyone is interested let me know and I'll help you with making contact with the person.
  2. Its just a short walk to the intersection of Pattaya Tai and 3rd RD where you can catch a baht bus for 10 baht.
  3. The place looks like a good deal and I'll keep it in mind for any future friends coming to Pattaya. At the risk of stirring up this very controversial subject, a small safe can be purchased for between 600 and 700 baht. If your only staying for 2 weeks this work out to about 40 baht a day and even less if you sell it to a 2nd hand shop. Better yet have a friend who lives in Pattaya store if for you until your return trip.
  4. I don't think Congress and the President will let it fail. I would think that they would do things like raise or reduce the ceiling where one doesn't pay any into SS after they reached that amount during the year. They could also increase the percentages one pays. Increase the age one becomes elgibile like they have done already or decrease the annual COLA, say 1% less than the actual.
  5. Alan the one time that I was able to take the Bell bus back in Nov there was also another bus service to Jomtien near where the Bell lady was located at level 1 at the airport. She was located closer to where the food court is located. You might want to check out their times.
  6. If my arrival/departure time doesn't fit in with the Bell service then I use one of the cheaper services in Pattaya. OnThe Ways is a travel service based in Pattaya and the cost for a private car is 1000 baht plus tolls (60 baht), more if your require a mini van. I like having the driver meet me as I leave customs and helping me with my bags to his vehicle.
  7. I only paid 150 back in November.
  8. It's definetly not about the cost of fuel. Its based on the load factor. One time as I was checking UA fares from Sacramento to Bangkok based on lowest fare, the cheapest route was from Sacramento to Chicago and then over to Nariata. No way as it was during the winter and I didn't want to risk getting stuck in Chicago for a couple of days.
  9. I got early retirement because I was working at an Air Force base that was on the base closure list. I could have moved with my program to Ohio but choose the early retirement package as I was close to regular retirement age, didn't want to move to Ohio and they made it very attractive. If I had know about LOS prior I would have gone earlier as the closing process took 5 years and I was one of the last to retire.
  10. Just saw on the tube yesterday about a big round up by the police of illegals who were begging along the streets of Pattaya. Said they would be returned to their home country.
  11. Many times prices will vary upon the time of the year and also upon your length of stay as many places offer discounts for a weeks stay and even more for a months stay. The places that don't have weekly and monthly rates will also offer lower rates if your staying for a lenght of time and they have vacant rooms.
  12. Hotel has toped out and the roof installed along with windows. Not sure when it is expected to be finished but noise should be less with only interior work beiong done. There is also the Bella Villa on soi 4 and there is another hotel being constructed next to PIH, however don't know when its expected to be done but its further along than the one next to the BJ.
  13. It will definately help you to learn Thai. Learn some Issan also as you might end up with a GF from that region.
  14. Hell, in 28 years you'll probably find more Thais speaking English throughout LOS.
  15. Yes that's the place, You should be able to find it on the web because boardmember redwood showed me info from a copy he printed.
  16. Prices could change if the rooms stay vacant. I checked out the new hotgel on soi 6/1 after they first opened around Dec 1st. The cheapest room was listed at about 6500 a night, a friend told me that its now been reduced by over half, still high but could come down more if they don't rent out the rooms.
  17. Try getting out and walking. I found a great place just behind Carrefour, only trouble was when I had TGF call and talk to theowner's GF I found out that he was from Iraq and didn't want to rent to an American.
  18. There are many places along Soi Buakaow, one needs to get out and check out the places. I've seen many that advertise daily, weekly and monthly rates, so if your staying for more than 6 days you'll get a discount at those places.
  19. I think he meant the rest of them.
  20. This is hindsight, but you should have gotten away from those guys and then asked for a ride or if you had gotten a general direction from the police then take a baht bus in that direction for 10 baht. Then show a motorbike driver the address. If you can get a taxi in Pattaya for 800 baht to go all the way to the airport then anything close should be around 100 baht.
  21. I can provide a little help. The place is just a little over a year old. It is located near the north end of Buakaow, right across from the night market if you know where that is located. If not it would be almost due east of where Soi 9 intersects with 2nd Rd.
  22. Fortunately in the US there are other pensions besides Social Security and the company pension. You have the military pensions both active and reserve, federal civil servant, state employees, county, city and other public service pensions. I had friends who had a military pension, federal civil service pension and social security pensions all rolling in, we called them triple dippers.
  23. Then let me give you a heads up on making a connection in Beijing as I had problems when I was routed through Beijing by United last year. At Beijing ( at least last time for me) you will still have to fill out an immigration form and pass through immigration even though your only making a connection. Last time they wanted to see a ticket or boarding pass before I could pass through immigration which I didn't have and by the time they got a supervisor I nearly missed my flight. I fly out of Sacramento thru San Francisco and neither of those airports were able to provide me with a Thai Air boarding pass. Hopefully your going through an airport that has Thai Air so make sure you get that boarding pass. If I have trouble and miss my flight then you might have me on your flight.
  24. I'm arriving 1 day earlier also from Beijing at 10PM. However United routed me on Thai Air from Beijing on that leg. Is there a UA flight from Beijing?
  25. Many of those praising the buffet prefer quanity to quality. Back to the OPs question. If one is only going to swin occasionally then you could just stay at any of the hotels and then take a short walk to Mike's Mall and swim on their rooftop pool.
