  1. Your health insurance is similar to mine as its taken directly out of my pension check. I would recommend that you also carry a credit card along with your health insurace card to let the hospital know that you can cover the initial costs to save your life. The accident insurance policy is a good idea and shouldn't cost much.
  2. I think you've understated your 2nd example. Owning a place will eventually have some maintenance costs, also it requires one to use some of their funds to make the purchase thus reducing what one could be earning on those funds (probabley not much at this time). Same thing with owning a car, however most cars will reduce in value over time and if not taken care of will need to be replaced. You need to add in a depreciation cost for the vehicle unless your planning to keep it for the rest of your life.
  3. I think the downfall of the US carriers happened when the EEO got involved. Prior to that time, the US carriers had height/weight ratios and most of them looked like they had to have been a high school homecoming queen to get hired.. I remember some very fine looking stewardesses from the old PSA airlines.
  4. I don't drive a motorbike but from what I've observed the laws, if there are any, are very rarely enforced. When I use to live near the school on Soi Arunotai I would often see up to 5 school kids on a motorbike without a helmet. Probably 3 laws broken. I also get a kick when I see Thai policemen driving on motorbikes on Pattayaklang without wearing a helmet. With the exception of the highways I've never noticed any posted speed limits.
  5. A couple other things will come into play. 1. The location of the gate to immigration. 2. Is your bag one of the first onto the carousel or the last bag.
  6. You guys need to get out and get some exercise especially after eating. Another plus is that you might run across some cute TG for some dessert or get a cell number for a future visit.

  8. Besides the purchase price and trasfer fee wasn't there also a sinking fund cost or was that included in the purchase price?
  9. Once the "last bag" is indicated on the carousel and you don't have your bag head over to the baggage counter. It has happened to me twice in the past few years. They will check the computer and find out where its located. Then they will take your information on where you are staying and deliver it to your room in Pattaya. At least that's the way United has handled my cases and I received the luggage the following day.
  10. From 2002 through early 2008, Dr Darika was my dentist at PIH. When I tried to make an appointment in the summer of 2008 I was told that she was on maternity leave and had moved to Bangkok with her husband. I then switched to Dr Aree who was also very compentent but I preffered Dr Darika as I could joke around with her since I had know her for awhile. Then about 2 weeks ago as I was out for my mid afternoon walk and was returning to my apartment a car stops and this Thai lady starts chatting to me. I didn't recognize her at first sitting behind the wheel but then found out she was back in Pattaya but now working at a dental clinic near Tiffanys. I would guess that prices are lower than PIH so if anyone used her in the past and would like to see her again, the clinic is located on 2nd RD, left hand side between the roundabout and Tiffanys.
  11. One thing that I found out that was odd about LAX is that on my Jan trip with United was that I arrived on a United flight from Sacramento at their domestic terminal and my international flight to Japan, the United gate was also at the United domestic terminal. And as Joe mentioned they do have buses that will take you from one location to another at LAX.
  12. Great location, right next to the Sunee Plaza if your into guys.
  13. They are currently adding a new wing at the Flipper House so one migh run into a little noise.
  14. Maybe he's conserving on his lodging cost so that he can go out and enjoy the pleasures of Pattaya every day. I know I wouldn't want to be wasting even 1 night of a 30 day trip sitting in my room watching a DVD unless it was with a BG. Electric costs will vary for everyone. For the past 1 1/2 years I've lived in a small 1 bedroom (55 sq mtrs)with TGF and during that time my combined water and electric ( 6 baht a unit) has averaged 1000 baht a month. That's with cooking meals in the room, me taking numerous showers a day and her doing about 4 loads of wash a week. Staying in Jomtien will require a baht bus ride like you said so one must factor those costs in for not only himself but any BGs he's bringing back. A couple trips a day could easily add up, where if he stays in centeral Pattaya and doesn't mind walking baht bus fees will be low.
  15. For contact why not try PBR if they're under the same ownership? You head towards Soi Buakaow, as you near the intersection you should see a sign pointing down a driveway to the UP2 U apartments. Not a big place and they may have had a price increase since biggles stayed.
  16. Wouldn't know as I don't stay in the area, I noticed the clearing of the site and following construction when I pass by the area when I'm out getting a little exercise. It was just a heads up comment, maybe someone who has stayed there recently can answer.
  17. The wasteland view has turned into a construction site so one may run into some noise.
  18. You might find something at the Nirun Condos. They don't have in room safes but you can buy one for about 1000 baht. they do have 2 pools and lifts. Walk to Pattayaklang is about 300 meters where Carrefour is located and you can catch a baht bus for 10 baht to either walking St or up to the Big C area. The rooms have A/C but your paying for all utilities and providing your own towels and linen.
  19. I had heard about the joiner policy shortly after it opened which sounded insane to me. Apparently they came to their senses considering they are not located near the beach and probably had many vacanices due to that policy.
  20. Haven't stayed, but have read in the past that they want a joiner fee which is surprising considering it's location. It's located directly opposite the PP massage joint between Buakaow and 3 rd RD.
  21. I thought I heard Skytop mentioned on Pattaya One News, could be wrong as I was taking a piss in the bathroom. What I thouhgt I heard was that a falang from the UK was found dead in his room. If it was indeed Skytop I hope it wasn't one of our BMs.
  22. Hub, Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I thought Pete said that the wait staff was informing patrons that there was going to be a wait so my scenario was based on knowing that I'm in for a wait. Like I said in my initial post, if I have follow on plans or like you say someone must eat at a specific time, then I wouldn't wait and if I were given a wait time of 30 minutes and it turned out to be much longer I would be upset. My comment was how I would feel about waiting 90 minutes after I ordered and I said I wouldn't care as long as I know that there will be a wait and that its happened to me before. The difference was that I had to wait in a different area and then once my name was called I then would have to move to the eating area. 90 minutes is 90 minutes whether its waiting in one area or two area. In some places I might not like waiting in the dinning area for 90 minutes and would prefer to have the time split between the bar area and the dinning area because if there is a sporting event on I can watch it in the bar area while waiting as the dining area might not have a TV. PBG has TVs so waiting at my table would be like waiting in the bar area of a restaurant. I also mention that when I go out to dinner with friends, socializing with them is a high priority so yaking with then during the wait I enjoy. If you ever saw me you would see that I don't miss many meals and eat 3 times a day with a couple snacks thrown so I'm never starving when I sit down to eat. Again my post was how I would feel not anyone else.
  23. When the new hotel opened up on Soi 6/1 they were initially asking very high rates, then reality set in and they came way down. Also in the same area as the Baywalk there is another residence that will open later this year so the competition should keep prices reasonable.
  24. I understood exactly what you were saying and my point was that 90 minutes is 90 minutes. I'll explain my point again. If I walk into a place to have dinner and I have to wait in a waiting area or the bar area for 1 hour before a table is ready in the restaurant and then another 30 minutes from the time that I place my order before it arrives, I've still had to wait a total of 90 minutes from the time that I arrived at the establishment before I begin to eat. I'm assuming that these people who waited the 90 minutes were seated and placed an order as soon as they arrived at the PBG, if they arrived and had to wait an extended period of time to be seated and have their order taken then their wait was greater than the 90 minutes.
  25. I'll be different and disagree. I've been to places where I had to wait in a waiting area or bar for close to an hour and then once seated for dinner, waited another 30 minutes for the food. It's still works out to 90 minutes. The one thing that I would expect and demand is hot food, the wait is not a problem unless I've got plans to meet someone or get to a movie. In America places will have staff that's only around for a few hours during peak times, I don't know if I've ever seen this concept in Pattaya. Usually when I go out to dinner with a group of friends the primary purpose is to socialize with them, so if there is a wait it dosen't bother me. I do prefer for the meals to come near the same time instead of being staggered.
