Pictures from around Pattaya
yselmike replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The soi 15 is walkable ok but I wouldn't want to try it when it's been raining,it's the bit from the hideaway to just before the avenue that's messy. -
What is the difference between Rugby League and Rugby Union
yselmike replied to Odense's topic in Sports Talk
There's two versions of wheelchair rugby from what I could gather from the tv the last week.I preferred the original wheelchair rugby when it was called " murder ball". -
More like €1500,the €1000 flights were 30 hours or more each leg! and no luggage. The reasons given were that there's not so many flights,so the ones that do fly are fully booked, maybe overbooked so we can expect some shenanigans at the airports.Cost of fuel, always that one.Staff issues, they laid of all the security people and the loaders etc, surprise surprise they found better jobs. Now they have to find and train new staff, and they are struggling.I shall find out on the 19 November.I have a few expensive linen shirts and Marino wool tshirts I shall put them in my carry on,it would upset me if I lost them when my luggage disappears.

In a dutch paper today they wrote that flights to Asia were getting very expensive,it was behind a paywall so I only get the headlines.Out of curiosity i put in the dates of my trip nov19 to dec17.The cheapest was with Finn air,€1090 and the out leg was 32 hours! The best price for a 13-14 hour trip was over €1400.My flight with EVA is coming in at €1700 I paid €877. I have been flying to Thailand annually since 1996 and I have never seen prices anything like this,Can't imagine what the price will be for the Christmas new year peak will be.
-
I travel direct from Amsterdam but if I had to make a stopover I would prefer via the middle east, mainly because it is midway between London/Amsterdam.Each leg is roughly 6 hours flight time.I see some of the stopovers are 20-30 hours.I am curious if those are the final prices when the actual booking is made,my limited research suggests otherwise.
-
Airports are restricting flight as well,or are being forced to.At Schiphol they could not recruit enough staff for security so flights were being cancelled some at the last minute. They don't expect any improvement for the next twelve months.Though they have been forced to up the hourly rate for security staff. One of the reasons I booked for November and not the peak season off just after the new year.
-
I fly out in November from Amsterdam with EVA,€877 that's €200 more than I would pay pre-pandemic.Around the peak Christmas new year it would be €1000 or more.I am 71 and expect every trip to be my last one.One advantage in paying more is the ability to change my return flight, with the 45 day stamp in my passport and getting the extension I could stay for 75 days.Pattaya is the one place I know that as an old white single European male I fit right in.There is nowhere that offers what Thailand and Pattaya has,so for a couple of hundred Euros more I can suck it up.The gogos have limited appeal I certainly won't be paying any exorbitant bar fines and not using the central heating while I am away will pay for the extra on the flight.
-
A basic flight with only carry on,with use it or lose it condition's are the only flights that are close to pre pandemic prices.Up the price for checked bag, seat selection, ability to change dates etc.

Any body have any experience of Airbnb in Pattaya? I have downloaded the app and had a scroll through, there seems to be some good deals available for a months stay.I am concerned about hidden charges such as water and electricity also wifi and getting any deposit back, plus the legal issues.Any info or tips would be appreciated.

Grand avenue,soi 15 buakhao
yselmike replied to yselmike's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have booked the first week in the i-rovers,the next 17 days in the travellers rest soi lenkee,it's cheaper than the classroom.I can cancel anytime.Slight glitch in the matrix! It looks like it's 45 days instead of 30 days stamp starting from October. That means if I can extend my flight I can stay till 3 January plus another 30 days with an extension.I will make my decision during the first week,it's if I can handle 75 days in pattaya, maybe jomtien is better for me.Strange days ahead it might be cheaper to be in Pattaya than the Netherlands in the winter months because I will not be running the central heating or using hot water.Of course the euro is tanking. Thanks for the photos, keep it up so I can book the hideaway if the situation changes before 20th November. -
I vaguely remember them trying to shake me down when I was going to my room with two girls.Cant remember exactly how it panned out with the lift mafia, but I remember having a great time with the girls.
-
Back in the day there was a night club/disco.it was rocking full of all sorts of girls from the gogo's and some students and shop girls out to supliment there income's.One girl told me that the security guys who had a table in the entrance to the lifts and stairs, gave the girls a hard time. From what I could gather they wanted paying to give the girls access to the rooms.I am not sure if it was cash or sex or both, they definitely had a very bad reputation with the girls.

Grand avenue,soi 15 buakhao
yselmike replied to yselmike's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Thanks.I will leave the booking for now,it looks a bit dodgy, coming back at 3am in my cups. -
Anybody know roughly how soi 15 buakhao is doing with the road works? Looking at grand avenue condo from 27 November to 14 December. Any indications that it's nearly done? Cheers

I had a Google and there are lots of links for the airport Pattaya run.One had fast track as an option! At least with booking.com you have some comeback if the driver doesn't show. And I know where they live in Amsterdam.
-
According to booking.com "the driver will meet you at arrivals and take you to your vehicle".I am usually frazzled after the flight and now I am officially old I don't want any messing about.I will check the reviews and probably go for it.Its 1300 and something baht with my genius discount, add a tip so it will be 1500 and that's the rate from the taxi stand.Or of course there's the Bell bus there's one that leaves at 16:00 my flight arrives at 14:30 so I should make that,300baht.
-
According to their web site they only had standard "smoking rooms" on offer. That will change when we arrive on mass the coming high season.

All spick n span, and ready for all those high end tourists. -
Nam's it is then.thanks for the input.
-
It's just for a week and I will use that time to scope out a few better places.I don't expect much from a guest house on LK Metro so I don't think I will be shocked.
-
I got a message from booking.com that because I am a genius I can get 10% of a taxi to Pattaya from the airport.Just curious to know if anyone has booked a taxi with booking.com and how it went.
-
19 November, I am officially old.
-
Ha should be 19 December. I tried for Metro apartments but they are booked out.I have booked the first week in the i- rovers, biggish room, good price pay in hotel.I wear earplugs so noise is not a big deal for me,light in the room is more of a problem.I will see how it's going on soi 15 before I check out the hideaway.I will probably try to get a room in the classroom,it seems to tick all my boxes and then book it for February if I decide to return.I usually finish my trip with 3 nights in Bangkok, not so many hotels are showing up on the booking.com map.The old Nana hotel is only showing standard smoking rooms,to be avoided at all costs.
-
I've booked with EVA fly out 19 December return 17 Dec cost €877 with baggage and seat selection,if I'm enjoying myself too much I can change the date of the return flight and extend the visa for another 30 days.
-
Beginning to look like the old school way of booking something for a few days and then looking around.I did forget about the mess on soi 15,thanks for the heads up.
