  1. I have yet to see a hotel anywhere with only a bathtub. They are rare enough anyway but usually have showers separately or in the bath.
  2. "Somewhat more", but only US$100 for a round trip on an airline that saves someone 18-20 hours on a bus. How low is acceptable on an airline, really? I don't think holding out for $33 round trips is a very good option in terms of the odds of working out. A bus will cost 1700-1800 round trip so there's 1/2 the cost anyway, so you look at saving $50 and spend 20 hours ex-BKK making time worth $2.50 an hour. I would not save $100 for 20 hours of sitting on a bus. Maybe a train overnight in a private compartment. Though the TG says no to the plane on the grounds of price though I suspect the idea of flying for the first time might be a part of it.
  3. I like the title, not using taxi then how you took a taxi from Mo Chit to the airport.
  4. If we did remember the health infrastructure in 2012 is a little more advanced than 1918 and epidemiologists are far faster to observe and react to pandemics than in 1918. Get a flu shot. Even if it costs a few bucks, which it shouldn't in a modern western country, I hope.
  5. Off sale "voluntarily" in North America , Australia, the entire EU, HK, India and even China. And Thailand as well. I would think twice about taking medicine off market that the Chinese have allowed to be "voluntarily" removed from the market. They are not exactly paragons of wise pharmacy management, so when they ban something, that is banned. The risk besides dying from taking it is that what you will get is backroom fake or badly formulated. Or both, maybe amphetamine, in which case there is a risk of arrest. China's FDA (Google translated but easy enough to understand) In recent years, the European Union, Australia and other countries and regions, the international multi-center clinical research aimed to study the sibutramine cardiovascular adverse events, results show that the use of the drug can increase the subjects of serious cardiovascular risk. Guaranteeing public security, the State Food and Drug Administration to organize relevant experts assessment of sibutramine security in our country, that the use of sibutramine may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular risk is greater than the effective weight loss treatment . In accordance with Section 42 of the Drug Administration Law and the Drug Administration Law Implementation Regulations Section 41, has now decided to revoke its approval of documents in the production, sale and use of our stop sibutramine formulations and bulk drugs, been listed for sale of drugs by the production company responsible for the recall of destruction.
  6. Well, best of luck with the project whatever this actually means, that is.
  7. I think when he said 28 days that is a month and a short one to boot.
  8. When I was there last week Nok Air was only THB1,399 all-in to Isan so I can't imagine the price to Chaing Mai is a lot more, out of Don Muang. And it isn't - THB 1600 to 2000. Not many airfares in other parts of the world for $50 or $60. Or the VIP bus from Mo Chit for around 900: see here: http://www.sawadee.com/transfer/bus-north.htm The train seems to take as long or longer as the bus, go figure. But trains are cool and not a lot of dough. I have heard you can book the entire first class sleeper compartment for two (if you are only one) for less than the cost of two tickets. See this site: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Bangkok%20to%20Chiang%20Mai I proposed to my TG she fly on Nok Air and the idea terrified her as did it costing double the bus, on principle. I guess these VIP buses are quite nice, it's overnight and you save on a hotel for the night which would pay the trip and then some.
  9. Unless you like the dreadful Tyler Perry (Madea) stumbling through a wooden performance skip Alex Cross which was shite. Great cinemas here though with sofas at the back enabling drifting off when the film is crap. Skyfall with luck will be at the SFX VIP tomorrow with even better sofas. We're off to the first showing.
  10. In Pattaya until the 5th, then Bangkok

  11. Mobs (or mobbees) of people like these fruits.
  12. Scavenger hunt time for the hungry.
  13. Quite. Even three one bedroom apartment hotel rooms at RG would be 4350 a day all in with a maid and such so you'd need three people who wanted a fair bit of room or for parties and such to pay another 1650 on top of that. Nice looking house though. And you can come out, be homeless for Xmas to the 8th of January before you are allowed back in.
  14. One of those girls looks like an older bald man though. Not for me.
  15. Don't use it with a mac. WD My Books are plain shit on a mac.
  16. Since renters arrive without an insurance pedigree nor that much understanding of the insurance market nor type of coverage in Thailand, perhaps you'd say just how they make this extra coverage and with whom? For example do you sell extra cover that eliminates risk of damage like Avis or Hertz do? Is any coverage valid if people lack a motorcycle or scooter licence (there are both in some countries) at all and just have a car licence? Do the renters need an international drivers licence? I have to think people are renting these things with no insurance in effect at all due to not having a permit to drive them, and are also at risk for damages.
  17. Step 1: Go to upper right corner of the site. Step 2: Find the search box Step 3: Type in Rose Apple Step 4: Read the long post Step 5: Ask once you have done some work.
  18. You can get this sort of signal around the house with wireless cameras then you can use sites that let you upload images from those for review with any browser.
  19. I am not sure there'd be much of a benefit to that. The furniture is clean and undamaged, the floors and walls are clean, the TVs are adequate in both rooms, what would they do (other than increase the price)?
  20. You can look for an area bereft of feral dogs on the street which will marrow down the hunt.
  21. I have heard that when you go into immigration they will talk to you in Thai, first year level after a year, second year after two years. You better converse with them in Thai. That's not a bad thing but it means a school that you are basically paying 20,000 Baht to get you a visa now has to teach you Thai so you a) have to find one that can and go to school. Most people need something to do so a few hours a day in school wouldn't be the end of the world. I can tell you having a 2nd language is a boon when you are in a place where you need it. Mind you for the world Spanish or one or both Chinese dialects would be more useful generally.
  22. Beware two carriages at once coming at you. Listen for the clippety-clop.
  23. The lady across the street is nice, does OK, and so far I have not been trod upon or grazed by a horse or carriage or a dual set of either so I don't mind it and I really don't need an itemized bill for $3 or $4 anyway.
  24. I was there August and will be back in 18 days. I don't recall any internet cafes anywhere nearby. And I have walked all the way up to Foodland but I will keep an open eye. Laundry is across the street and to the left about 2 storefronts, has a flight of concrete stairs to an open patio window. Next day not same day but it is so cheap I am tempted to bring all my clothes from home. There is another right across and a lousy massage (proper massage) opened in August. I stick with the lady across and left for laundry but I don't know the other price. Food wise other than Sugar Hut where we go once a trip, not much of any memory and just that Mexican place (Mikes?) on Thappraya Soi 5. There is a super cheap (at least posted adverts) right across, never tried there (Altos I think). I went to Jade House once with TTK and it was OK but that was April 2011. Older ladies, cheaper drinks and boffing in little cabins with lots of room and clean. We did the BBQ day thing, I am not sure that is really worth waiting. It is close though, as is Rose Apple massage at the Foodland mall if you want a quickie.
  25. Is this feasible for $300 a month? Bedroom ,DSL, close to beach? Wow. Lucky if it is.
