  1. I've had an iPod since 1st Gen and Touch as well and an iPad and have yet to see a 120V only PS. For the mac, since the Powerbook which was dual voltage, as well. I did some research for you - there was the "Ben Franklin" iPod .000001 Generation which said on the power supply you needed "1 kite and a storm". So there was something other than 120/240V. BTW anyone who doesn't take the 10 seconds to read the input voltage written on a power supply pretty much deserves what they get.
  2. You'll be happy then to note, I didn't use the word. However in Apple's case they are always 120/240V switching adapters.
  3. Arrogant service and pants, the dual deal-killers.
  4. Not only would he, he did when I asked. They expect in that 3 hours a bit of doing nothing vs. driving a solid 3 hours in which case gas would be an issue and distance could exceed Bangkok and back. For an hour or two you can see a lot. In four we did Nong Nooch, Buddha Hill , Big Buddha mountain and a bit of poking around, well worth the $33.
  5. i am using an iPad right now and an iPod and a Macbook Pro. Apple power supplies are 120/240V switching adapters.
  6. I looked at the website, cloth napkins, I fear it is "pant-sy" e.g. I have to wear pants. I think I'll pass.
  7. 80% of posts by davesiam are posts for go taxi, such a coincidence.
  8. It's just up the hill so anyone know if it is any good and does it have OK Thai food? TG reluctantly ate Mexican food yesterday at Mikes (a bit costly but not terrible) And while the food at PBG has been pretty good of late, Mata Hari is closer and, different.
  9. Now that I know the BG's can pick their own names that explains the two I met that would not go with me named Fuk Oph Jak and Yoo Suk.
  10. There is a lower cost set from Sony that work OK but if you wear glasses (I used to) they squeeze the arms of the glasses into your head like a vise. I have found those who criticize the Bose usually haven't got them, haven't worn them and probably can't afford them. I have tried many and the QC-15 are the best out there. The problem is they are $350.
  11. For various reasons, especially when your body clock is out 12 hours, and for keeping bad cholesterol down, this stuff is excellent and I can't find it in any pharmacy (even the good one I posted about). I bought some "faux" version but I can't afford the outboard motor you need to dissolve this stuff in water to get it down. I tried Big C, both the grocery and the Boots there without luck. Anyone bought the real thing here? If so where?
  12. When I spent a lot more time in Nicaragua, in Managua specifically, there are no street names, and no addresses. So the postman has to have "the knowledge" big time. You mail (and navigate generally) using landmarks, including many that are no longer there. E.g. from where the Coca Cola plant was go 3 blocks north, two east, one south and it is three houses down from the fallen tree and it is the house that has the red metal door and the blue painted bars on the windows. Mailmen live in the barrios they serve and have delivered in some cases for decades. I sent a birthday card to a girl with this address Villa Venezuela Barrio Fontana From the XYZ Hardware Store three blocks south, two east , one north, one west, house with the green bars on the windows and the red car in the front yard The card got there in 6 days.
  13. I found a rather good one. It is called something like Rumrya or Bumrya (close enough). I'll update this if I remember to have a look-see as we go past tomorrow. On 2nd road where it is 2 ways, across from some hotel CK something or other. Heading towards Thappraya turnoff it is not quite at Soi 17, just before that, so very close to FLB if you're walking. Clean, well air-con which is vital for storing pharmaceuticals, very good prices, pharmacist speaks good English and knows his drugs and doses. This blasted cold has migrated to the lungs and I am keeping the cough and chest crud at bay with massive amounts of amoxicillin. 40 X 500 mg doses hermetically sealed for THB360. And 10 doses of Gravol for 10 baht. I bought some TMP/SMX (Bactrim) back in April for a very good price, from Roche, non-generic. You'll know it as the name is close enough from my memory, and when you go it it looks like there is a separate little pharmacy inside which is accessed by a sliding patio door and where they sell bandages and things. I have no idea why it is set up this was as there is no outside door for the little extra glass room and so you have to be in the main one to buy something from there. I bought three elastic bandages (after turning my ankle at Tuk.com - watch the floor close to the vendors) for THB100 - pretty cheap vs. what I pay at home, like $18 for the same.
  14. Waiting with TG for a BB heading into town. A bit trafficky and BB , empty Baht Bus passes us like they often do. Then he stops, beeps the horn and drives backwards 1/2 a block to pick us up and not on the ol' private ride bullshit deal either. Another smaller miracle this week. On 2nd road near Soi Diana I pressed the crosswalk button and after it changed all lanes of traffic stopped for us to cross. I told Ripley what happened and he wrote back "I Don't Believe It"
  15. I got here Sunday and after 2 minutes at Fasttrack and less than 5 for luggage I beat the guy to the exit, called Mr. T. and the guy showed up parked in the middle of the road outside door 3 with some lady wearing a radio (from the airport I think) looking for me and off we went. I used them today for a trip to the Sanctuary of Truth. I had to haggle with some big headed loon at Mr. T's office on Soi Diana to get an OK price though. Wanted 700 Baht to Naklua and back with having to call the guy an hour before leaving. When I told him I can go 140 km to downtown Bangkok for THB1000 , 700 to Naklua sounded a bit steep. Subsequently changed to 500 with the guy waiting for us for over 2 hours at the place. I'd hate to try to get there in a Baht Bus though I saw a couple. It is in the middle of nowhere. Worth seeing it if a bit pricey (THB1200 for the 2 of us). Holy cow, what a huge amount of work.
  16. I have lost count of the rooms available 500 600 Baht signs I see all over the place here right now. LK Metro had a few places and on most Sois where I saw guesthouses they all have vacancies so it seems, except the one you want to use.
  17. Next time I go somewhere new I am hiring the postman and not Mr. T. then now that I know this. Does a farm have a moo moo address?
  18. If you do not plug them into an audio source but turn on the power switch then they just lower ambient noise levels. A lot of people sleep with them on. I use Bose QC-15's which are very good but on Cathay they provide hard wired ones so I leave them at home. You can turn off the TV and they are still lowering ambient sound.
  19. See that long skinny rectangle on the satellite view starting at the A in the bubble? You'll be walking to the end of it. Just so you know. On the subject of addresses, what's the Moo 10 mean? Their address is 391/18 Moo 10 Thappraya Road. Their "Sugar Hut" road is after Thappraya 15 and well before 10 which is the other side of the road anyway, so what do the Moos mean in Pattaya then? My Bangkok hotel is just #18 Sukhumvit Soi 11 and I go to Sukhumvit, turn on Soi 11 and it is reasonably 18 units down from there.
  20. Went with the TG to Sugar Hut tonight. You get there by BB to the junction of Thappraya and Pratumnak at the lights. To your left if you are before the lights coming uphill there is a sign that says Sugar Hut and apparently the road is Sugar Hut Road. You walk maybe 500m to the hotel (cabins, really) and restaurant complex in the jungle with a few wild animals about (OK chickens and a squirrel). Eating is under fan, no air-con and there are little Japan style sit on the floor type of seating which we didn't do. Huge Thai menu, almost 100% Thai with a few Western foods added for the true fussy farangs. We had a spicy salad served with a chicken leg and sticky rice, a green curry (hot) served with white rice and as I was determined to avoid the farang favourite Pad Thai I chose noodles with shrimp and chicken. Then menu is in Thai with a description of the food but not a Latinizing of the Thai names. So I asked TG what it was called and she said "Pad Thai" Oh well. They ask farangs how spicy you want things. Luckily. The green curry chicken for TG was not de-spiced and could take off paint so ask for lowering the spice level if you're sensitive. We had one dessert with what looks like peas served with rice dumpling in coconut milk in a coconut. The peas were these gelatinous things that stuck to your teeth and weren't peas. One waitress when she turned around had an animal on her back, which on closer exam was a small white squirrel (or Thai equivalent) who was even wearing a collar and a small bell. Small like maybe 1/8". No idea where you get such small pet accessories. If rodents riding the staff somehow upsets you in a restaurant then be warned. Total bill with service and VAT added was THB1018. I could not eat Thai food this good where I live for 30 bucks. If you want to take a TG who wants real Thai food, this is a good place. She thought it was top drawer. One serving can feed two so one appetizer and two mains (all around 200 or so) and one shared dessert is enough for all but the biggest eaters. They have a golf cart and the guy will give you a lift if he sees you, back to Thappraya. Think two seater Baht bus. Since I am at RG we walked back as it is all downhill and maybe 15 minutes.
  21. Spending 4100 Baht in any bar is a huge waste of dough admitted or not, really.
  22. The only treatment for Chlamydia is one gram of Azithromycin also known as Zithromax. Of course you take it and your partner must as well. Gonhorrea is one oral dose of Cefixime aka Suprax, 400 mg or an intramuscular injection of Ceftriaxone 125 mg. Frankly if there was a doctor nearby diagnosing things I'd insist on the Cetriaxone at the time for the speed of delivery and because I don't scream like a girl at needles (many do). Note if someone is diagnosed with Gonhorrea the treatment ALWAYS adds Azithromycin as there is a high probability of coinfection with Chlyamydia, not necessarily vice-versa. In either case these are antibiotics you want to get at a hospital or Boots and not Wun Hung Low's street pharmacy to avoid fakes. I carry these with me (along with a suite of antibiotics and a Sanford guide) for all emergencies, like skin or bladder infections. I get my GP to pre-precribe them based on my having the guide and knowing more or less the symptoms. I told him , please give me Cefixime and Zithromax in case I get Gonhorrea or Chlamydia, and he said well use a safe and I understand they break etc., so sure, here's both. Most people won't have this type of relationship with their GP. If you aren't shy to test for both is a Q-tip up the piss tube and a smear and exam which is 15 minutes so in that case the 700 Bht package covers all the bases for you and you won't be taking pills if negative. I didn't get the package also as it includes Hep B antibodies which I'd test positive for anyway having been vaccinated and thus getting them in your system (which is how vaccinations work). If I thought I had HBV, unlikely, then the tests are quite different as the antibody test is not proving anything.
  23. อักษรลาติน ak (low) saawn(Rising) laa(Mid) dtin(Mid) noun - Latin alphabet Breaks down to alphabet + Thai transcription of a foreign loanword
  24. Found a better deal and faster, too, while you wait, actually. Lifecare Labs off of 3rd Road, between the overpass and Soi 17, closer to Soi 17 I guess. Look for the Laundry Express sign on the building on the corner, it is in 1/4 block on the right coming from 3rd road. After the little Soi, if you're heading away from the overpass there's one more street then a traffic light which I think is Soi 17. It goes down to where you can pick up the road to Tuk.com, anyway. Express HIV 350 Baht, today for the TG it was while we waited. VDRL was 100 extra, same wait time. That covers the big two anyway. They have a package deal for HIV 1/2, VDRL, Hep B, Gonhorrea and Chlamydia and something they call vital signs, no idea what that is, 600 Baht. One hour . Note for G and C they need to swab your unit (or your girl's) to get a smear. I presume a guy does guys, the lady does ladies. Or you do it in the bathroom. I didn't since the cost of the tests is more than the two pills to cure the problems. Anyway for a fast STI screening $20 is pretty hard to beat. You can give them any name you want if you're worried.
