Pictures from around Pattaya

Pics of some of the construction and destruction projects around Pattaya. Watched these guys climbing from one balcony to the next. Happy when they succeeded as I didn't want the job of first responder. -

In no particular order, random shots from around Pattaya from late this morning before the dark clouds moved in. Odd they have a mini-bridge a few meters from its big brother. -
Today's photo update of the Beach Rd drainage project. Hard to see in this pic, but the catch basin is still almost 3/4 full of water, so they've not yet cleaned it out. I would have thought it would be easier to clean the muck out before they completed the concrete enclosure. First time I've seen them make an effort to sort the paving stones by color. Looks good when they match to the existing pavers. Not so good when they don't. Wonder what numbnut thought it was a good idea to spray paint a marker on the pavers.

Had to look that up. I believe you are correct. In construction, blinding is a base layer of weak concrete or sand that is laid above a layer of hardcore to provide a clean, level and dry working surface. A thin layer, usually around 50 mm (2 inches) thick, of blinding is poured over the hardcore, sealing in the underlying material and levelling off the surface.

Noticed on another board a pic of the curb laying where it looked like they had stopped using concrete for the bed and were placing the blocks directly on the sand. My curiosity piqued I went out this morning to snap a few pics of the current work. Turns out they still are putting a layer of concrete down first. But now the question is, is concrete like hair gel, a little dab'll do ya.

The Tues/Fri Buakhao market is back. Quite the selection of colors at the Soi Xzyte car rental place. -
The drain project is almost finished at the north end. Standing water at the Soi 6 junction. Bad doggy South end still has a lot of form work going on. The rebar goes quite high. Maybe housing for permanent pumps?

^^^ You were right about being years from completion, but the completion date has finally arrived. Opens 22 May. Motorists can zip down new Pattaya-Map Ta Phut motorway for free until Aug 31 The Highways Department will open the extended section of Motorway No 7 (Pattaya-Map Ta Phut) on May 22 and allow motorists to use the section for free until the end of August, director-general Sarawut Songsiwilai said on Sunday. “Motorway No 7 connects Bangkok to Banchang district in Rayong and is part of the department’s 20-year strategic plan to develop the interprovincial motorway network,” he said. “It currently ends at Pattaya. The extended section will now run from Pattaya to Map Ta Phut in Rayong.” Sarawut explained that the 32-kilometre extended section comprises three toll booths – at Huai Yai, Khao She On and Map Ta Phut districts.“ The cost of the project was Bt17.78 billion, comprising Bt6 billion for land expropriation and Bt11.78 billion for construction. The extended section was 100 per cent financed by profit from toll fee collections on Highway 7 and Highway 9,” he said.“ From May 22, the public can use the section for free starting at the U-Tapao toll booth. After August 31, the toll fee for Motorway No 7 will be Bt25-130 for four-wheel vehicles, Bt45-210 for six-wheel vehicles and Bt60-305 for other vehicles.” “The Bangkok-Banchang Motorway No 7 is an important route that completes the transportation network in the Eastern Economic Corridor and will connect existing and future marine and air transportation routes,” he added. “It will also promote inter-border trade with neighbouring countries, reduce traffic congestion on main highways and drive the local economy.”

Found an article on the incident. Happened on the 16th. American Airlines Hangar Involved in Foaming Incident A foaming incident occurred after a fire extinguishing system was activated in American Airlines hangar, at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) yesterday. At the time of the incident, two American Airlines Boeing 787s, registration unknown, were parked at the hangar. It is unclear if any additional aircraft were in the hangar at the same time. Source says that the automated fire suppression system was activated by accident. In the video below, it is possible to see the huge quantity of fire retardant foam falling on the aircraft. What I thought was going to be a music stage I was told today will be a new market for the Soi Xcite grounds. Marking and digging out fence post holes for whatever is getting built next to Pirates on Soi Full Love Inn. A few shots of the ongoing work at the Edge. -
Update on the Beach Rd drainage project from this morning. Still working on the "drainage" part of the project. Think this is a power washer rig for cleaning the smaller drains. A couple of side projects going on

Shrinking Pattaya Reservoirs
forcebwithu replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Just one good two or three day monsoon downpour will be enough to fill the reservoirs here. See the post linked below from 2015. -
You won't have to renew until after the state of emergency in Thailand is lifted. No new driver’s license until Emergency Decree ends Those with an expired driver’s license from 2 January 2020 to the date when the emergency decree ends will have an extension as long as Thailand is still in an emergency state. The DLT has notified the Royal Thai Police and the Office of Insurance Commission to allow those with an expired driver’s license since 2 January 2020 to continue driving on the road. The Insurance Commission will make sure that those with insurance will be able to claim the costs in case of an accident provided that you are driving the type of vehicle as registered in the driver’s license. For example, a Private Car Driving License, a Taxi Driving License, and etc.

Yes. Decent place to sit, have a drink and people watch. Only negative is pre-pandemic it got too crowded with smokers. -
Shrinking Pattaya Reservoirs

Today's update is of the Huai Chak Nok Reservoir. Small recreational pond that's dammed off from the rest of the reservoir is lower. And the reservoir itself is a lot lower. Comparison shot from one month ago on 13 April. The spirits patiently awaiting the return of the water. -

Tree Town before and after sunset last night. Cashier at Prom Guest House said the owner of the property fronting the tents was renting out the tent space. Kind of cheeky of the owner to be collecting rent on what I believe is a public footpath. -

I can't say I've noticed any more than usual riding the wrong way. I'm pretty conditioned to accepting it as normal, and in fact see it as a expedient way of getting to a destination that is closer to get to by riding against traffic. That of course only applies to those on two wheels, or two feet. Where I do take exception is if they expect me to give way, or even honk at me to move out of the way; which has happened and they get a verbal response that is in proportion to their stupidity. What I have noticed is quite a few more out on bicycles, which is encouraging to see. -

It is, and it's been closed even before the pandemic hit. Before it was closed I think there was a change in owners as it seemed to cater to Thais. Stopped in probably about a year ago and while promptly served a drink was ignored for the remainder of my stay, even though I was the only customer. Figured I wasn't the customer base they were looking for, which was fine as there were plenty of other bars to choose from. Or rather, there used to be. -
Today's update on the Beach Rd drainage project. This is what happens when you employ the color blind for footpath repairs.

A few random shots from around Pattaya this morning. On today's bike ride I came across bars on the corner of Nakula & Soi 33 getting set up for distributing free food. The blue line in the screenshot below shows the start and end point of the line when I passed by. The line is 1/2 km long! Didn't take any pics as I feel it's a bit degrading to take pics of people in need. -
Don't fire suppression systems have heat sensors to trigger their release? That being the case, then it wouldn't be hard for a person to use a heat source to trigger the system.
