I read elsewhere they opened up a U Turn on 2nd Rd, so a trip to immigration might be shorter now. -
Was looking for a topic to post a TIT example and found this 15 year old thread to resurrect with a new post. Saw this on a bike ride in Bang Lamung yesterday. There's a long stretch of recently completed road and a brand spanking new footpath. Not a worker in sight, nor any barricades to be seen. Not sure how long it's been since they completed the concrete work, but every one of the drain access shafts on the footpath looked like this.

Bike Paths & Routes Around Pattaya
forcebwithu replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Our group ride yesterday was different from our usual off road, Friday rides. Yesterday's ride leader called it the Urban Commando Ride, and it was just that. A lot of road riding mixed with bits of off road. It was also a long ride at 50.8 km that took us as far north as Laem Chabang Port. Thought I'd post the ride details incase someone is looking for a route to ride that's a bit different. First stop was about 11 km into the ride at the Forbidden Floating Temple. A place until now I didn't know existed. The entrance to the Temple is Chittaphon Wan Buddhist College, just off Sukhumvit. Air quality was good yesterday, so had great view towards Nakula to the south from the Temple. And Laem Chabang Port to the north. After enjoying the view and a bit of rest, we were off to our next stop. While not really rough off road riding, it was certainly a lot nicer than riding on busy Sukhumvit. As the ride leader didn't tell us where we were going at the start of the ride, we didn't realize until we reached this point we would be getting a much closer look at Laem Chabang Port. The ride out to the far end of the port area was a 2 km stretch along an area that can best be described as a salt marsh. From the far end we had a nice, breezy view of Nakula and Pattaya off in the distance. After relaxing and enjoying the view we were once again off on our ride back to Pattaya. After a 15 minute rehydration stop on Sukhumvit, we made a mad dash across three lanes of speeding traffic to a U Turn, then repeated the process on the other side. Then it was a shortcut through a temple to a route that was parallel to the railroad. This far north of Pattaya, the area next to the railroad is still pretty wild with some good single track to ride. Once we made it to 3240, I split from the group so I could snap a few pics of the current water level at Mabprachan Reservoir. -
They're now up to across from the Amari hotel breaking up the road surface for the Beach Rd drainage project. Soi 1 they've started digging. They're setting up the Soi 6 pumps again, probably not for any expected rain, but to help drain the water that has been collecting in the drains under construction. South end of Beach Rd. now getting backfilled. A few more pics of the beach. South end has new shelters for the homeless. 11:30 am and only one parasail up

Shrinking Pattaya Reservoirs
forcebwithu replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Opposite here. They concrete over huge swaths of land that once served as natural percolation ponds. Then they wonder why they have flooding in the sois. In normal years the monsoon rains do a more than adequate job of topping up the reservoirs ahead of the dry season. Last year was drier than normal, thus the deficit in water we're now seeing. From what I hear, outside of Pattaya a lot of housing estates and private houses use boreholes for their water supply. What I've not seen or heard of though is the city supply using the same as a backup to the reservoirs. Easy enough for the city to dig a borehole, so I hope they start digging quickly. -

On my ride around Mabprachan Reservoir today I saw the Provincial Water Authority is doing its part to keep our AQI numbers up.

The Eastern Water Resources dept was a bit more timely posting their weekly update. Water consumption is still at 4 million cubic meters/week, so the estimate of sucking the last drop of usable water somewhere around 17 April, if not sooner still holds true regardless of what the govt would like you to believe. -

My reply to you in post #260 had a link to a topic on the Beach Rd work. -
On another forum there was a post that cited unnamed sources that Jomtien immigration is no longer requiring the 90 day financial report. As I agree Jomtien is one of the better immigration offices, I wouldn't be surprised if this was true as it would be more efficient to check hat your balance hadn't dropped below 400k in the preceding 12 months at the time of your next extension renewal.

Early November it's fine. From later November until early March we get an increasing number of burning fields combined with seasonal temperature inversion layer that trap the shit close to the ground. Temperature inversion, a reversal of the normal behaviour of temperature in the troposphere (the region of the atmosphere nearest the Earth’s surface), in which a layer of cool air at the surface is overlain by a layer of warmer air. (Under normal conditions air temperature usually decreases with height.) temperature inversionSmoke ceiling formed by a temperature inversion over Lochcarron, Scot., in 2006.Johantheghost/moonblink Source: https://www.britannica.com/science/temperature-inversion

Pattaya Water Reservoir at Mapprachan Lake at lowest level in twenty years Interesting stat from the article... "the reservoir hit the lowest level in twenty years at 16% left of the total volume of the lake", I think that's a fair estimate of what usable water remains. I call BS on this statement though, "local leaders say the volume of water they have is enough to last through May when more rain is predicted" At current consumption levels I expect the reservoir to run out of usable water by mid-April, if not sooner. -

The house water supply has a more expensive Hitachi water booster pump. I went cheap on the rainwater system as it's low use, intended only for watering the garden. -

Think it was sometime around 2014/2015 they dredged out the north end and used the spoil to fill in and create the park areas on the north and northeast sides of the reservoir. -

They might be waiting for the reservoir to run dry before starting that work. At the very least I would expect they'll take a close look of where the pockets of water are and dredge deeper channels to them. They'll then have full access to all the water without having to resort to pumps to get the water to the pumping station. -

Thanks. The rainwater system catches rain from the downspout on one side of the house, which is the only side the owner installed gutters on. Even though it's only one side of the roof that I'm catching rain from, during normal rainy times it will be more than enough to keep the 1,000L tank topped up. The clear plastic tubing on side of the tank is my DIY water level measuring device. The tank feeds into a cheap, 1450B water pump. I made a mistake by using screw in elbow joints to the pump. In order to align the elbow in the correct direction, I couldn't tighten them all the way. Even after using multiple wraps of teflon tape the screw ends still have small leaks. My next project is to replace the elbows with straight in screw connectors which I can tighten all the way to the stops, and then glue the elbow joints to those connectors. -

Time for the bi-weekly update of the shrinking Mabprachan Reservoir. As before, for reference purposes a screenshot of where the pics were taken. Water Edge as of 23 Feb, 2020 Pic 01: Quite a few more tree stumps exposed. Pic 02 Only a small gap now in the land bridge. Pic 03: Estimate another 1/2m drop in the water level. Probably the last time I can use this spot as a water level gauge since it looks like in another week there'll be dry land around the structure. Water Edge as of 23 Feb, 2020 Pic 04: Innovative use of a boat's pontoon for a bridge. Pic 05: Pumps moving water from the main body to the channel leading to the pumping station. Pic 06: Thai's manning the pumps were quite helpful directing me under the outflow pipes to make my way across the land bridge. Pic 07 Pic 08: The gap in the land bridge looks a bit too deep to cross. Pic 18: And indeed it was too deep. When I was on the other side of the reservoir noticed a couple of guys crossing the gap. Both were in over their heads and had to swim to the other side. Pic 09: With most of the reservoir dried up decided to take a shortcut across what was previously lake bottom to the pumping station. Looking back towards the pumps. Area to the right is the wide mouth to the channel leading to the pumping station. Noticed another group on mtn bikes making their way across the land bridge. Pic 10: Two weeks ago they had an earth retaining wall around the pumping station and were pumping water from the channel into the small pond it contained. They must have dug the channel deeper as now the pumps are gone and the retaining wall is open on both ends. It was a mistake trying to cross the narrow bit in the above pic. Took a tentative step into the wet area and immediately sunk to mid-calf. Decided I might as well continue on and fortunately I didn't sink any deeper. Pic 11: Nice of them to leave the pumping station gate unlocked again for me. Pic 12: Looks like these guys have started a fish farm. Doesn't look like much change in the water level in this area from two weeks ago. Maybe looking at the top of the water table, in which case as long as they don't bring pumps in, they should continue to have water for their fish. Pic 13 Pic 14 Pic 15 Pic 16 Pic 17 Pic 19 Pic 20 Pic 21: The pump house in the above pic is now drawing its water from a pipe that extends a long way out to the main body of water. They might be thinking of holding the pond in reserve for when the reservoir runs dry. As mentioned in a prior post, this water is being used for the tourist trap, Flower Land. Seems to me to be a pretty selfish use of a public use/need commodity that is fast becoming scarce. Pic 22: A stark reminder of just how much the water level has dropped. -

Slow pipes leave Pattaya water trucks awash in business With water pressure running low in many areas, water suppliers are awash in business in Pattaya. Earlier facing the threat of the worst water shortage Pattaya has seen in five years, the Provincial Waterworks Authority last year cut water pressure in some areas by as much as 20 percent. That means water runs more slowly and sometimes even stops, most recently last week. In South Pattaya and along Thepprasit Road water trucks have been doing good business, selling water for 10-13 baht a liter. One driver said he normally does three or four deliveries a day but is now doing as many as 10. His biggest customers, he said, are condominiums, apartments and private homes. Water levels in the nearby Chaknok and Mabprachan reservoirs have dropped significantly, with underwater plant life now peeking above the surface in some places. PWA Pattaya Manager Suthat Nutchpan said people should not normally experience water outages. If they occur it’s because of a line break somewhere. He also reassured residents that there is enough water through at least June, but still encouraged people to conserve. -
Almost did just that setting up to take this pic. The sand underfoot started to give way. Fortunately most of my weight was still on the other foot so easily jumped back. It did give me pause when I considered just how bad it would have been if I tumbled the other way. That would have been no ones fault but my own for standing so close to a construction site.

Now we know where the water trucks are getting their clean water. My neighbor is selling his swimming pool water. -
I really think it's a shame their parents didn't teach them better manners. Hate being their surrogate parent, but I have no trouble telling someone to use headphones. Or if no headphones then don't play their music, videos, games or other sound making devices in public places.
