  1. waaaaaaaaaay down soi 8 with a private tuk-tuk for free to get you to and from Sukhumvit. Rooms are adequate. Once you get to Suk - then cowboy and nana are close by. restaurant sucks. had breakfast there once.....got food, coffee, juice, toast, condiments, etc all separate and all about 5 minutes apart. the restaurant is on top floor and they have a dumbwaiter (mini-elevator) for shuttling the food from the kitchen downstairs.. there are better places to stay.

  7. skip BKK...go straight to Pattaya cant provide any info on Hard Rock - never been. 4 months is better than 4 days. shorts and T-shirts and an ATM card are about all you need. make no plans - go with the flow.
  8. used Khongfah on 26 Aug. Price was 1700 + tolls (140) + parking (20). Was waiting for us with a sign. also knew some Pattaya short cuts that chopped a few minutes off the trip. First time ever that I arrived in Pattaya and did not come in via beach road. came in via Sukhumvit/Buakhow and direct to 2nd road and Tim's Bar Beer. Still agree with the suggestions of not using real name or real hotel (I told him to go to Lek Hotel - right across street from Tim's. also - Alex wanted 2200 baht
  9. no such thing as cooler months...it is always hot...dont worry about it...just come...anytime...day or night...hot, hotter or hottest...it doesnt matter...the beer is always cold and the women are always great....plus...if you come during the "cool" season....read that as only 90 degrees Farenheit instead of 100 degrees.....you will pay more for hotel...there will be more competition....prices everywhere will be higher....pack a bag....get a ticket and head on over
  10. when on holiday I normally spend about 100 dollars per day - give or take - so for one month that is $3,000...and that is out partying every night, buying souveniers, clothes, etc, hotel, transportation and whatever else...so for $60K per year...you would be "Living Large" - since you would not be going out and partying like crazy like you would on a 2 or 3 week vacation...maybe for the first month or so...and then I think it would taper off.
  11. ignore them, don't stop to look at their binders, wave your hand palm facing them, tell them to fuck off, tell them MAI OW.

  13. I usually don't start looking at prices til about two months out...and then buy about one month out. Distant prices are always ridiculous.

  23. I am used to a deposit for the key to the safe behind the counter. but refuse the mini-bar hassles. I just got back aobut 2 weeks ago from here http://www.shangri-la.com/taipei/fareaster...a/en/index.aspx in Taipei, Taiwan...and had them unload the fridge...went to the market next door and got my own beer. Soi 7...US Hawaii
  24. Whenever I check in to a hotel with a loaded mini-bar - I call housekeeping and tell them to empty it. I then have room to put my own stuff and dont have to worry about any charges.
  25. One of the easiest things I have done is to use a DEBIT card for gettting my baht gun reloaded. I currently use a Paypal debit card - so it is easy transfer money from my checking account to it (free but takes 3-4 business days). I use that as my vacation card - I know exactly what is in it from the beginning and keep track of withdrawls. I also have my checking account card as a back up and have only had to use it when the debit card has run out of money (too many beers and too many women). It is very convenient, can be used at the ATMs all over Pattaya 24/7. To me, traveler's checks are a hassle. If Paypal isn't your thing - then just get another account at your local bank and specify that it is to be a debit account only - get a debit card and you are in business. I try not to use my regular checking account card as money is coming in and small bits go out for monthly bills and would rather not touch it and reconcile when I get home. Plus by using the debit card, my only risk is what I put in that account. Thieves don't like debit cards - they like those platinum Visa cards.
