I enquired to Ma Maison about rates, and they e-mailed back that they have reserved a very nice standard rom for me Just to add some fuel to the SS war thats going on, I have stayed there twice, once a suite about 7th floor, IMHO not worth the money, it is just 2 adjoining rooms. Last trip i got a room on 2nd floor, standard but quite large, very clean and OK. I would stay SS again but my room at MaMaison works out around 2000 cheaper over the week, there will be no shortage of takers to get their little hands on that.

I have not used Mr Toom before but I am considering using him next week. Just to clarify, is it 1200 each way including tolls? Also is the return service from Hotel to BKK reliable as I want an 8am pick up? TIA

Anyone know the difference between standard and superior rooms at Ma Maison? I have looked at the web site and the items listed are the same, i can only think the Superior is ground floor and larger. Before I stayed in a superior, it was OK but nothing special. I may try the standard which is 900. TIA

My usual agents Ours Travel were not too helpful so I have just emailed west east travel, office now closed. Hopefully about £407 inc tax plus free national express tickets plus my lounge access at LHR and BKK, but no miles on this deal. Their is a special Eva fare from LHR-BKK 12-14th June, works out £407 inc tax with WestEast, which is £265+142 tax. Strangely, Travelmood say £260 +179.60 tax, tax is confirmed because they have reduced it by 30p No miles on this fare but I may still give it a go, just going to see if the coup makes any difference to Thai affairs, I would assume nobody in Pats will even know about it

Guys, I just bought a Canon A710is for my next trip to LOS after problems with my Pentax Optio on more than one occasion. Tom If you are still in samui on Saturday night go to the Thai lady boxing in Lamai, it is brilliant. I have been several times and never been disappointed, it is a great night. It is advertised at starting at 22-00 but starts around 22-30, usually 6 bouts, 2 men, 3 lady and 1 katoey. The girls fighting work at the bars surrounding the ring, so when a girl from a particular bar is fighting you can imagine the mayhem caused by her supporters who work bar. Did you notice that USM is having a new terminal built, I took some good piccies but my SD card became corrupted. Have a good time, by the way Choeng Mon beach is quite pleasant.

Yes, I work for myself looking after sportsgrounds and a few gardens, so it is quite nice in the summer, but this winter i took it really bad in the UK. This is surprising as November and February were spent in LOS Christmas was a nightmare, I had the Blues big time, I never even went out for a drink, Xmas eve, christmas Day lunch or New Years eve. On the infamous skygod thread I can remember him posting an image of UK women in his pub on New Years eve, I would rather stay in I forgot that I am due my pension as well from 2011 I think I will go out in November and see what comes up It is a bit too hot for me in Thailand, but there is no gain without pain. Now all I have to do is tell the missus I am selling the house I can move into Council sheltered housing for about £60 per week inclusive, and she can look after herself. I think it was Ben who made a good point about going for 5 years until I have shagged myself into senility One option I have been thinking about is to stay in the UK in the summer and perhaps spend November -March in LOS. What made me think about staying in Thailand permanantly was on my recent trip where I stayed at Na Jomtien, near to the Pinnacle resort, I love it down there for a bit of piece and quiet. My room had a large balcony, sea view with sea about 20mtrs away, A/C, large bed, fridge, colour TV, decent bathroom, also a maid changes the towels and sheets daily, 950 inc American Breakfast, but wait for this. It is only 8000 per month April-October, whats that 280 per day? I put my TR on Bangkoktonite, maybe I will see if I can copy and paste with some images. Thanks for the help guys.

bigjl Smoking and Drinking won't take your money, it's the girls One major reason that flights are more expensive this year is that Gordon Brown whacked a chunk on tickets for UK guys, plus the Thai departure tax is now included in your ticket price and that is now 800 I believe. Also some airlines introduced fuel surcharges last year and now the prices have fallen the airlines are suffering from insomnia. My Eva flight was only £375, with £139 added for various charges.

I would prefer this to be worked out in GBP/Thai Baht but I can always use XE.com if us Limeys are not clever enough. Now I would probably like to move out to LOS, but the same as many other BMs, maybe I do not have enough dough, and I do not really want to finish up splattered over Soi whatever before I get too old:D I am now 60 so I guess at the very best have 25 years left on this planet, but probably less, although father passed away last year age 90, but he lived a cleaner life than I do So my cash would be as near as possible to 100K, if I got 5% interest that would mean living on 5K pa=350,000 baht per year = 30,000 per month which is not enough. However if I factored in the capital as well, 100K divided by 25 (years) =4K pa (280,000), so that would be 350,000 + 280,000 = 630,000 baht per annum, roughly 50,000 baht per month. When i go I have no children to leave my money too; yet so if I die without a pot to piss in, so what? Do you ex-pats think that 50,000 baht per month is a decent amount to live on comfortably? I realise there will be interest rate changes and currency changes along the way. There would be Visa runs, hospital charges and perhaps 1 flight to the UK per annum so it maybe a bit tight.
