  1. I don't think you really need to arrange in advance. For a city its size there are numerous good hotels from 500-1500THB. Try the www.khonkaen.com website, it has good info and pics of hotels also.
  2. North side soi 6 near Beach Road is gone as of first week of October. BiGD is right, Skytop is good and the one at Tops is very good, fast and cheap.
  3. Take the night train to Nong Khai, 7:25pm, 658baht for air-con 2nd class sleeper lower berth (upper is cheaper but no window). Arrive N.K. 8:30am, tuktuk from station to border is 20baht (5 mins.) Visa at border is $30US (1200 baht), takes 15 minutes. I didn't have $US and they hosed me 1500baht (so what). Share a minivan to Ventiane (15km) for about 175baht each. Bargain with the van guys!!!! Ventiane guest house: Soukchaleun, nice clean fan rooms, bit noisy in the front but ok for $US10. No big in-your-face P4P scene but girls readily and easily available, most tuktuks are pimps and will offer. Girls try to get 500baht ST/1000LT but compared to Pty they are amateurs and not worth the price.
  4. That's not saying much.
  5. Yes, you CAN make a million dollars in PTY...just bring 5 million to start with. Rule #1: Caveat Emptor Remember, you don't have home-field advantage!
  6. I get my prints done on 2nd Road near the Lek Hotel (on the beach side of 2nd, there's a row of shops, this one has a big Kodak sign and occupies 2 shopfronts). Very good service, 7 baht a print if you do more than 12 or 15 and he will edit them digitally for you, cutting out redeye, cropping, colour balance etc etc all in the price. Head to soi postoffice for a quick one while he does your job.
  7. As Balzac said, "Behind every great fortune is a scandal." Whores, thieves and con-artists are the next generation's high-so, right Ozzies?
  8. There is always a shelter close by with liquids on offer along with warm companionship to dry/get/suck me off. OOOPS!!! Bad taste!
  9. Maybe not even that much. Rocket Richard was making 20K when he hung up his jock at age 39. But the crowds in Montreal were lined up for 3 miles along the street for his funeral. Won't see that again, except in Brazil for Pele.
  10. john, they are the 2nd best all time...1955-60 habs are the best!!!! rocket, doug harvey, beliveau, plante, moore, geoffrion etc etc
  11. I was fortunate to grow up in Montreal in the 50s when the greatest team of all time reigned. Eleven of 15 starters went to the Hockey Hall of Fame! Five Stanley Cups in a row and missed one cup on each side of the run by a an overtime goal each time. Got to see the Red Wings in the Forum one Sat. night when I was 10 yrs old. Terry Sawchuk, Gordie Howe etc. Too bad...the Habs shellacked them 6-0 that night. Saw Bobby Orr as a 15-year old Junior A player who ran rings around guys 4 years older then he went to the NHL and ran rings around everyone there. My neighbourhood Junior team had Bernie Parent in goal at age 17. Montreal was the best hockey place in the world, we played outside every day after school in winter and all day Sat and Sun. Parents had to drag us off the rink at night to do homework. After a blizzard we had to clean the rink ourselves if we wanted to play and if bigger guys came along we got run off. Hockey is a part of every Canadian boy's life. Who were the greatest players of all time? Hall of Famer Ken Dryden said it best, "Whoever was playing when you were 12 years old." I think it applies to soccer, baseball, football too. Sorry for being long-winded but this is the last place in the world I ever expected to chat about hockey!!!!
  12. Vic, they were the Scouts.
  13. soi7, your memory is off. they used to play in the Olympia (where they first threw the octopus on the ice). I grew up in Montreal and the wings and canadiens were fierce rivals in the 50s.
  14. Stayed there for 3 weeks in May. Its as safe as anywhere else. Lots of activity, well-lit etc.
  15. your bride will most likely find pattaya quite offensive as its pretty in your face. you, on the other hand, will regret coming with your wife unless you are still in love. lots of temples to see in other places, you don't go to pattaya to see thailand as its prolly the least-thai city in LoS.
  16. Jeez Jimmy, what took you so long? I'm sure if a TG laid there like a stump for 17 minutes in LoS you'd have her out the door and another employee installed within the next 17 minutes.
  17. Go shopping at Royal Garden Mall and Mike Shopping Mall, go to Nong Nuch Garden. While you do this tell your boyfriend to go to soi 6 and you will meet up with him after for drinks and dinner.
  18. No, they were just renters. Model was owned by Budget. Expert at changing channels with one hand also.
  19. High mileage but regular servicing with frequent lube jobs and washes. Five speed box plus reverse. Bumper marks indicate has been pushed from behind. Top goes down easily and quickly. Clearly, money has been spent on this model but how much trouble-free mileage you will get is something you can never be sure of. As is, where is, cash only.
  20. I've been wanked, though
  21. You can see adult movies anytime in the upstairs bar at The Pump Station.
  22. There are literally thousands of ideas here. Get on the plane and don't thin' too mut.
  23. Check out Vinai apartments on soi Vinai near 3rd road and 100 metres from Buffalo Bar. They have a website and it looks ok, only 350/night , monthly rates also. I'm trying it out in April.
  24. I didn't meet Cookie but I liked his place. Good vibes with no "New Age" psychobabble bullshit like at the Rock Sand end (although you can score at that end of the beach) and good food. I had one of the best meals of my life and I'm a serious eater having lived in France for 4 years in the 90s. Next time I go to KoChang I won't hesitate to go back to Cookie's and if you will go back that's the best endorsement.
  25. Bungalows are air-con and IMO many of the others are not worth the extra 800-1000 baht. My TG was quite happy at Cookie and I wasn't there to stare at the room plus the clientele was not uptight whereas at some of the "upscale" joints they think too mut of themselves becoz they are paying more. Same beach, same sun, same trees. In fact, some of the upscale places further south from Cookie have no beach, just rocks. No, I do not own any part of Cookie :) I just had a memorable 5 days there thinking we were in love 55555
