    VFW..

here you go ....... alternatively just pop into any bar on Soi Post Office and there's a fair bet you'll bump into some Ex-Green Berets, Navy Seals, SAS, Paras or Foreign Legionnaires. As an aside .... why is it called The Veterans of Foreign Wars? Why not just War Veterans?
  2. That's assuming they're still flying on 29/3. I think the operative word is yet. Transport Minister: THAI not broke yet By: BangkokPost.com Published: 19/01/2009 at 10:40 AM Transport Minister Sopon Zarum on Monday brushed off the news about Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI)'s lack of liquidity and its decision to borrow 70 billion baht to increase the liquidity and pay for its airplanes. According to Mr Sopon, the company is asking its supplier to postpone the payment and delay the aircraft delivery schedule. He said the result of the negotiation would be forwarded to the cabinet for consideration. However, the minister admitted that THAI will need a strong injection to boost itself. Previously, there were rumours that the company was planning to borrow 55 billion baht to strengthen its liquidity position.
  3. That may mean the A340-600 will stay on the LHR route on the summer schedule.
  4. And that's exactly the problem they'll face. Where exactly are they going to find all these aero engineers etc to bring thework in-house. They are struggling to cover the existing programmes as it is.
  5. The Seaside ............ http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...mp;#entry551071 Don't know about the other place.
  6. The Thai tax is 700 Baht. Hardly worth worrying about.
  7. Flights ex BKK are priced in Baht ........ nothing weird about it. The prices have remained pretty stable over the last year or so (discounting fuel surcharges). It's only the exchange rate that has moved. Look on the bright side ...... that UK hotel that charges 100 quid a night would have knocked you back 7k baht a year ago, now it will only cost you 5k baht ................
  8. You're absolutely correct ...... the pics don't tell the whole story. So, just to expand a bit, as of 9 months ago both the aircon and fridges at The Seaside were brand new whereas those at Skytop were several years old. As for the satff, didn't you have a run in with a member of staff at Skytop simply because you didn't like the level at which she played the music at the bar?
  9. LOL. I agree ........ he dishes up good (if overpriced) British fayre .......... or at least that which was typically found in transport cafes in the 80s. A place that I tend to avoid. There used to be a whole host of good German restaurants but many of them seem to have disappeared as the overall German influence in Pattaya has diminished.
  10. The beds in Seaside and Skytop are the same size ...... they are "Queen" size beds, not King size as you oft claim. The bed linen in Skytop is cheap and of the type you'd purchase in the BigC discount section whereas the bed linen at Seaside is of good quality and professionally laundered. The same can be said for the towels. Have you been to the Seaside? I remember you said you were going to visit and get some pics.
  11. I posted the two pics to show that the rooms at Seaside ..... "have decent quality bed linen and blackout curtains that actually cover the windows." But since you insist I'll post the reverse pics of both rooms to "show Skytop in a good light". I'm nothing, if not fair. Of course, you could always post a pic or two to show Skytop in a good light. Perhaps a photo of the back alley and rear entrance or the "in-house laundry"?
  12. From around 420 up to 12,000 quid and everything in between.
  13. Off course the easiest thing would be for magpie, jack or The Hun to post a pic or two of Skytop's offering in the same price range so that BMs could make up their own minds as to which offered better value. On the other hand, BM's can reach their own conclusions as to why they don't.
  14. You could add that first impressions count for everything ...........
  15. It's on Soi 3 ........ directly behind the Sabai Inn on Soi 2.
  16. The comparison made between Skytop and Seaside Guesthouse compared two rooms of a similar price. Like the Skytop, the Seaside also has cheaper rooms for the budget conscious traveller. It also has new mattresses and, unlike the Skytop, the beds have decent quality bed linen and blackout curtains that actually cover the windows.
  17. It's an obvious scam of one sort or another. Report back after you've sent them your CC details. Whoever "them" are. They popped up before from the same Dublin address .............. not surprisingly the site doesn't exist any more.
  18. Go by train. Cheap as chips. everything you need to know is below ........ http://www.seat61.com/Kwai.htm
  19. I think he's trying to say the 10th is Children's Day in LOS so your BF may have to go home early that morning.
  20. Dave, Thanks for being the first to reply and for once it's nice to see someone complying with the rules rather than expending their energy trying to find a way around them.
  21. You're getting through loud and clear. You'll save the princely sum of 1k Baht on a return flight and then still have the time and expense of doing MFM-HKG-MFM.
  22. Why would he want to fly to Macau if he is going to Hong Kong? Air Asia BKK-HKG is usually available at just over 6k Baht incl of taxes. Cheaper during promotions.
  23. Ah, well! Scally's predictions have come up trumps again! We'll file that under Scally's Greatest Predictions ........... along with the others. Airbus meets A380 target PARIS (AP) — European plane maker Airbus said Tuesday it has met its target of delivering 12 A380 superjumbos this year — with just 2 days to spare. In a bid to reassure customers, CEO Tom Enders had wagered reporters a magnum of Champagne during a September news conference that Airbus would reach its A380 target this year. No one accepted his bet. On Tuesday, in a statement, Enders announced, "we have met our 2008 delivery schedule." He thanked "a tremendous team effort." Image-tarnishing delays, technical problems and missteps dating back to 2005 slowed the plane's development. The final A380 delivered this year was handed over Tuesday to Dubai's Emirates airline, which has a total of 4 superjumbos. Singapore Airlines took an additional 5 A380s this year. Australia's Qantas received 3.
  24. Jeez. Have a heart. Losing your job during Xmas week must be a right choker.
  25. Pete, Was that 500 dishes or 500 meals i.e. 500 covers?
