  1. Frostfire, I'm aware of that. The point that I was trying to make is that there is no "safe bet" anymore. Lots of guys get knock backs (particularly Phnom Penh and Penang ......... KL and Singapore were pretty much removed from the list of options quite some time ago) and in some cases" stamped "not to return". Vientiane is Laos seems to be the preferred option these days but it could change tomorrow.
  2. You could go to any consulate and they could take the view that you are simply trying to abuse the 90 days in 180 rule. They are not obliged to give you a tourist visa on the back of two exemption stamps and the best you'll get is another 30 days exemption on your way back in.
  3. Ish. For the sake of the OP the various members of the Royal Family have their birthday colours incorporated into their personal flags, (as opposed to the Royal Standards which don't change in colour) ....... E.g. H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX): dark yellow flag with his emblem H.M. Queen Sirikit: light blue flag with her emblem H.R.H. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn: dark yellow flag with his emblem H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn: purple flag with her emblem H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn: orange flag with her emblem
  4. Monday is Yellow. (The day the King was born) Tuesday is Pink. (Get out of hospital day) Wednesday is Green. Thursday is Orange. Friday is Blue. (The day the Queen was born) Saturday is Purple. Sunday is Red.
  5. Bill, The nearest Skytrain station to the Aspen is Ploenchit, not Nana. Whilst it technically has a pool ........ you might be a tad disappointed at the actual offereing. I've seen bigger jacuzzis at Poseidon. For access to both subway and skytrain, Silom is your the obvious best bet after Asoke. A good choice (value for money) with easy access to both is the Bandara Suites Silom. Available on Ratestogo at around 2,500 Baht.
  6. Pete, Glad to see you have taken some of our comments on board. Any chance of getting some decent blackout curtains in the windowed rooms. Any pics of the new bar?
  7. Can you suggest dates that the price is coming up for? Their search function allows a 7 day spread for both outward and return i.e. 49 date combinations for each query and I still can't find the deal on their website.
  8. Where are the flights being offered? I can't find that deal on their website.
  9. marcortez, My knowledge of the airline market out of LAX is zero. I once flew into SFO, but that's about as near as I've come to the place. What i do know is that, for example, an airline has 10 seats left and knows that historically demand will be for 30 seats then they aren't going to be discounting anything. Something called price elasticity of demand kicks in at that point.
  10. Simple really ......... all four airlines that you mentioned operate well-developed, computerised yield management systems. Different classes of tickets are offered at various price levels and with varying restrictions dependant upon historical data i.e. the system knows that at, for example "flight day -100", x number of seats should have sold at y price. If sales are less than expected then seats are shifted to a lower (cheaper) booking class (more restrictions). If sales are more than expected then the opposite happens. This is ongoing in each booking class in real time and is pretty accurate on established routes. It's simple supply and demand but has to be very efficient because once the aircraft departs the empty seats can't be sold or even given away. The airline's internal costs don't really come into it, nor do passenger facilities. It's all about passenger yields at the optimum price.
  11. One of the worst pieces of advice ever given on this board.
  12. It's a very generous airline that is going to refund you anything at all. It is even more generous that they are going to refund the 200-odd quid that comprises their fuel supplement.
  13. Sport shop upstairs at Big C has a decent enough collection ....... check out their flyer at the top of the escalator for any current promotions. Also Big C, Tesco and Carrefour have cheap and cheerful models.
  14. Not being funny, but around 1.5k is probably a more realistic price.
  15. How old is it? You can buy a new one in Tesco for less than 8k Baht (incl free delivery).
  16. The Muslims would all be heading in the opposite direction towards BKK at the start of Eid.
  17. Not to worry. The Jocks will sort it out for them. Lift off for Boeing's debut in Scotland Published Date: 05 October 2008 By Terry Murden BOEING, the US aircraft builder, is to invest in Scotland for the first time and is considering a manufacturing facility. The company is sending a delegation to Glasgow this week, where executives will meet potential suppliers. "The aim of the day is to discuss how and where Boeing can invest in the Scottish aerospace and hi-tech industries, both in terms of manufacturing and gaining new suppliers," said a spokesman. "This would be the first time that Boeing has operated in Scotland, so it is an exciting opportunity for Boeing and for the companies concerned."
  18. Don't knock it Joe ......... Prince of Songkhla does your teeth for free.
  19. Well done, Mick. If you'd strolled into Bumrungrad with the same problem we'd be having a whip-round for you by now.
  20. Who's going to get the 1,000th post then? So much for BigD's attempt at a quick dig at the Euros.
  21. Does she work for EVA or Air Canada (EVA doesn't have a First Class product)? I was under the impression that EVA flights at Heathrow were handled by Air Canada .
  22. It depends on why your daughter has decided not to travel.
  23. paps, I don't live in UK any more so I'm a bit out of touch with the prices. However, the option of booking flights from LOS isn't near as attractive as it once was (at least in economy) and even less so with the pound plummeting against the Baht. If I was in your shoes, I'd be contacting half a dozen decent agents to compare their prices on EVA for a six month or one-year ticket, depending on the longest you intend to stay. Generally speaking, the longer the validity of the ticket, the fewer restrictions it will have and be cheaper to change the return once you are in LOS. It's a waste of time getting a flight that is 20 quid cheaper if it costs 25 quid more to change the return. If you are intent on also visiting the Philippines it would be worth checking the prices on the Arab airlines of an "open=jaw" ticket that lets you fly into either BKK or MNL and back from the other. Very often there isn't much difference in price compared to a standard return.
  24. They are pretty much saying that themselves now ........... Boeing says strike risks delaying 787 test flight 9 hours ago NEW YORK (AFP) — US plane maker Boeing raised doubts Tuesday that the first flight of its next-generation jet, the 787 Dreamliner, would take place as scheduled later this year because of a strike by machinists. "If the strike is going on, we can't try the 787 at the end of the year like we planned. We need the full team on board," Boeing spokesman Tim Healy told AFP on Tuesday. He refused to discuss the possibility of more delays to deliveries of the state-of-the-art aircraft, saying only that the company would assess the impact of the strike when it ended. "Alas I can't tell you when this strike is going to end," he said. Boeing's 27,000 machinists, who represent 16 percent of the company's workforce, went on strike on September 6 after the collapse of three-year contract talks. The strike has forced Boeing to halt aircraft production and could be costing the US aerospace giant more than 100 million dollars per day, analysts say.
  25. It was scheduled to open in December. It is going up next to the Amari Tower in what was the area around Soi Zero. The first pic below is a render of what it is meant to look like and the second pic is the actual progress from March of this year.
