  1. 2nd favourite is hardly a long-shot. I'll have a couple of quid e/w on Luke Donald.
  2. The advertised price is 1,500 Baht but there's nothing to prevent you agreeing whatever price takes your fancy with one of the scores of drivers lined up on the other side of the payment lanes. As long as the despatchers get their 50 Baht airport fee, they couldn't care less what you pay. It's usually better to target the guys with a decent green/yellow taxi as they are owner/drivers, rather than guys hiring out from one of the taxi cooperatives.
  3. Most of the rubbish looks like it has been washed up rather than discarded directly onto the beach. The sea conditions in the Gulf have been pretty rough since the beginning of the week so the rubbish could have come from anywhere. Blaming the current state of the beach primarily on the presence of Russians and Indians in Pattaya is stretching things a bit. Even my local beach has been affected to some extent this last week and there isn't a Russian or Indian to be seen for miles around.
  4. You can't have had a lot of experience eating seafood in Thailand if you're now having to ask what the prices should be. There are loads of great seafood restaurants in Thailand, including Pattaya and the surrounding area, but Walking St probably isn't the top of most folks' lists. In what way? There are several threads about the best places to eat seafood in the Pattaya area - a quick search should pull them up.
  5. If it happens only on threads where there are linked photos it is probably something to do with your cookie settings. On your top menu bar, go to Safari/Preferences/Security and check that your cookies are enabled. Quit Safari (not just close) and relaunch.
  6. Dearie me! Why would anyone pay 800 Baht in Sizzlers? 219 Baht on a Wednesday after 4 p.m. is the going rate, so don't go ruining things for the rest of us. Get there early though, as the place tends to get packed with Thais. As you know, I'm really generous with the tips - that's two good ones in one thread and another 116 Baht saved.
  7. Reg, He can always ask for 2 free sims and save 98 Baht.
  8. But you still claimed that 49 Baht is the "real price". It depends on which 49 Baht Sim promotion you choose. Call charges differ by as much as 100%. A small tip ... the next time you see the Happy/DTAC girls running a promotion booth, go and speak to them. In exchange for your e-mail address, they'll give you a Sim for free. You can then spend the 49 Baht you've saved on two bowls of somtam.
  9. Nobody is haranguing you. Some guys may take your posts as read, and believe that there is one price for a Sim card. That is, quite simply, not the case and is bad advice, particularly for newbies. FWIW, DTAC have a range of price plans attached to their numerous Sims - the cheaper they are, they generally have shorter credit validity and, as you can see, more expensive call rates. DTAC is really helpful, they even provide a website in English to make it easy for (most) folk to understand. I made no comment on your perception of Thai people, only the price of Sim cards.
  10. If you're using the skytrain to get to Chidlom, it's easier to stay on the train for an extra 2 stops Ratchathewi. The walk to Panthip from there (around 600m) is half the distance it is from Chidlom station (and less crowded - particularly if the red/yellow shirts are having a party weekend around the Ratchaprasong intersection). Whilst there are some good vendors in Panthip, there are also loads that will sell you complete crap - sussing-out which are which is the main challenge, rather than the price. I imagine the same applies to Pattaya. As a rule of thumb, I ignore the software 'collections' that some vendors try to flog you. The decent places won't be pushy and will actually know something about what they are selling you e.g. whether it comes with a registration code (normally on the cover) or whether you need to run a Keygen. Something to bear in mind if you're buying Mac software as the keygen is usually a Windows application. I agree wholeheartedly about the girlie comments though. I think the point Joe was making was that it's a false economy to buy a DVD full of crap that you don't need if the application you're after is sold individually on a CD.
  11. Except that you haven't. The price of basic Sim cards, as I've already said, is dependent upon the length of time the credit will remain active and some cards already include pre-installed credit (amongst other features). All you've highlighted is the price of your particular Sim card.
  12. Sim cards are priced on a combination of how long the credit will be valid and how desirable the number is, i.e. you won't buy 084-444-4444 for 49 Baht.
  13. So what speakers did the OP buy in the end? Presumably the cheap Chinese ones. Or not?
  14. Why did you buy a Nokia when you could have got some cheap Chinese brand for 20% of the price?
  15. Why the personal attack? I simply highlighted that the OP asked about sit-down eateries as well as food-carts. Or, as you would say ... "You made a silly irrelevant post and I called you on it... just a little nose tweak. You got shitty.....and foul mouthed..."
  16. Try to stick to the OP's questions. Yes, they sell farang food in sit-down restaurants, and it's a matter of opinion as to whether they are any safer than eating from the foodcarts.
  17. But it has everything to do with "It is my first trip to Thailand and am wondering if it is safe to buy food from foodstands in pattaya? Or, is it safer to go to a restauarant with seating in it?", which was what the OP asked.
  18. Don't Emirates and Etihad operate out of T1? I thought they had both opened their own lounges there.
  19. I recall recommending Dr Aree and posting her pic in one of my first posts on this forum back in 2002 - bad mistake on my part. It wasn't long before walk-in consultations were but a distant memory and I ended up having to plan my holiday around my dental appointments rather than vice versa. As an aside, I'm lucky to live in a city that's home to one of the main Thai dental teaching hospitals, so dental treatment in town is around 50% of what I was eventually being charged at PIH (in 2007).
  20. Jumping in a cab and going nowhere because the dopey previous occupant is pissing around and trying to pay the driver with a 1,000 Baht note. Getting stuck behind some idiot in Boots who is trying to pay for 5 Baht inhaler with a 1,000 Baht note. Getting stuck behind the loony in 7-11 who is demanding to pay his water bill before the payment period start date.
  21. I was trying to be kind by not suggesting that you might have plagiarised Walen's online content.
  22. You could always try using the Edit function at the bottom right of your posts. Concerned, or not. You're going to get it. On the other hand, they may be able to negotiate a better discount directly with the school. The current requirements are summarised on the school's own website. You'll note the 4 hour requirement, rather than the 2 hours you claim. Walen - Student Visa
  23. You were asked a simple enough question, i.e. "What's the name of your school?" You declined to respond - your choice. By pointing out to the other BMs that your OP was lifted straight from the Walen website and that they could easily visit the school in Pattaya before deciding for themselves whether or not they want to involve a middleman isn't an attack on anyone, nor is it an attempt to put anyone down. It is simply providing the information that you chose not to. Any BM considering going down the ED visa route then has the opportunity to compare the best prices he can get direct from the school or elsewhere. It's no different to highlighting that a hotel may offer better rates if you book direct rather than going through Agoda et al. As an aside, and as another BM pointed out, you need to be enrolled on a full-time course, i.e. a minimum of 4 hours per week, to qualify for an ED visa (and confirmed by the screenshots from Walen's website) rather than the 2 that you suggested in your second post in this thread.
  24. Edit: Sheesh! Double post. Not to worry - Yakult is a firm favourite of Buddha by all accounts.
