  1. Most of the major booking agencies, e.g. Agoda, booking.com offer the Hilton seaview rooms for 4,600 Baht p/n upwards whereas a comparable seaview room (Deluxe Premier) at the Marriott will cost around 2,000 Baht more p/n.
  2. See Post 10. The couple behind the whole thing are an Anglo Irish guy and his Thai wife (Paul and Pun Lennon). Raemonn Gormley was a volunteer teaching assistant at the school in Chanthaburi for a couple of months last year - see the article on celticunderground.net from early last year.
  3. That'll explain why Carradine topped himself there.
  4. Just a few pics that I came across from an earlier trip (1986 or 1987). Going for a walk in the 'hills' seemed like a good idea at the time. Doing the Golden Triangle was a must. Chungkai Cemetery outside Kanchanaburi. The Floating Market was a major tourist trap ... Mini Siam was no more than a couple of guys working on the Ananda Samakhom in a field ... Walking Street was clogged with traffic
  5. Subject to their terms and conditions, not yours. It's generally a requirement for guests to register on arrival. If you wish to amend the details of the registered guests, then you are forming a new contract, or are increasing the number of registered guests - take your choice; both involve additional payment to the hotel.
  6. Providing you're not doing anything stupid such as using it to talk to other people. The standby time is just over twice as much as the iphone, but the iphone gives you almost twice as much talktime. A pretty useful feature on a phone, I'd say.
  7. "a solum"? Surely, "an solum"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIAdHEwiAy8
  8. It means Latin alphabet/script (A,B,C,D...) as opposed to Thai alphabet/script (กขค...).
  9. Similarly, lots of guys complain about farang surcharges in Bangkok soapies when, in fact, they're levied for exactly the same reason i.e. a particular ethnic group (farang) is viewed as being stingy.
  10. This may clarify things. I've got to say that I'm not necessarily a big fan of some aspects of what the Lennon family do.
  11. I think your paranoia got the better of you.
  12. Every day of the week there's something that I come across in Thailand that you can't help but smile/laugh at - this is one of them. Anyone making a trip down the road to Chanthaburi might want to pop-in and give the Tims a visit. Good Child Foundation and The Thai Tims http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3moKrQZnM-M
  13. I thought he lived in Pattaya - when he isn't on his boat.
  14. Non-Immigrant Type O is the Category of Visa - O stands for Other, as opposed to B (Business), ED (Education), M (Media), R (Religous) etc etc. There are a whole host of qualifying criteria which change from time to time.
  15. Maybe you should look up the definition of objective.
  16. Are you suggesting that ManU players get some sort of favourable protection by refs? Here's the number of yellow cards dished out .... it doesn't support your theory.
  17. Was Durkin the ref when Man U put six past Arsenal? You shouldn't hold that against the guy.
  18. The whole penalty argument is a fiction of the imagination of ManU haters - all the stats confirm that, overall, they aren't awarded more penalties than the rest of the Premiership teams. They do miss/have saved a higher number than any other team though. Last season's penalty "table", when they were awarded fewer penalties than any of the Premiership's other top 6 finishers, is pretty much in line for for ManU's "performance" over the last 12 years or so.
  19. My immediate thought as well - or just do one of the intra-Asia legs in a lower class (unless he's talking about TG non-stop).
  20. Just added HD to my Astro package in time for the games.
  21. I think he was implying that both aircraft (787 and 380) are a couple of hundred sales short of their respective BEPs. Scottish humour at work. Anyway, it's nice to see that Boeing, as promised, has managed to get the 787 out in time for the Olympics.
  22. If it's an older laptop, it could be a backlight issue - when they go bad they start flickering like a kitchen striplight coming to the end of its life.
  23. Peter Schmeichel? Seriously, nice looking bird - I remember her from an earlier report (Samui?).
  24. The Met and The Banyan Tree - there's probably loads more.
  25. Obviously. Off the top of my head, the Peninsula, Conrad, Grand Hyatt, Intercontinental, Shangri La, Sheraton Grande, Westin Grande, Sofitel, Landmark, Grand Millennium, Plaza Athenee, JW Marriott, Lebua at State Tower, Anantara, Mayfair Marriott and Centre Points are all guest friendly. The Dusit Thani isn't.
