  1. Strange that they don't use a "French style" baguette, which is widely available, for the Po'boy; Maybe they perceive more sales to Asian clientele, who from my observations, far prefer soft doughy bread. I try not to compare prices in Thailand with those back home, wherever that may be, but the 33% mark-up surprises me somewhat. I don't see much on the menu that would have to be imported other than the "Angus steak", although that breed has been introduced into Thailand. Staff wages are also going to be greatly reduced from those abroad. Have they indicated to you at all, that everything is b
  2. If you are in "cattle" for that EK376 flight; by all accounts, the upper deck window seats are well worth purloining!
  3. Apart from the purple one who "bats the other way" alledgedly..... More of a pong ping fan?
  4. Yet another 24 hour peek, in an attempt to bring this back into the "mainstream" his other "bit" part:- X-Men: First Class
  5. I briefly looked at Etihad on that A380 LHR-BKK route earlier, as direct Edinburgh flights don't do 1st; The fact that they are using Jet Airways 777s on the Bangkok legs immediately put me off. I haven't actually flown with Jet, but online reports were not favourable. I suppose the use of those aircraft might be the reason for the offer. Jacko, a friend just in the process of booking (reverse of your flights) is finding Turkish the best price (not recommended because of Istanbul - Manchester seating), but KLM and China Airlines were both within about £50. Swiss are sometimes worth investiga
  6. Best of luck with that one!!! (No green votes for you Mr Firth!)
  7. Not much for me to go on this year, but I do have a similar Glasgow - Bangkok (1st) return coming up which is about 12.5% less than last year. However, the booking had to be made through an agent this time (Flight Centre) as Emirates were/are not offering any of their normal seasonal reductionson their website. Some of the reasons for no reductions in Economy or even Biz are probably down to the claim that the airllines subsidise the economy fares anyway, and cheaper fuel would allow that subsidy to be reduced. Another problem is the relentless rises in "airport tax" applied by government of l
  8. The "unexpected" headwinds line would appear to be utter bullshit to me also Butch. Upper Air Flows are basically from behind (tailwinds) when flying from Europe to the Far East, and they often try to "hitch a ride" on the jetstreams, which always flow Easterly (One of the main reasons for routeing over Ukraine previously). Different outward and Inward schedule times reflect that. Climate change is shifting the jetstream about a lot more, but at the moment it is in the normal position and routeing over Egypt is clear of it. The stream is set to move South in the next few days however, but that
  9. Weird one Firth! I was led to believe that almost all of these passenger configured aircraft come nowhere near their maximum payload even when fully loaded. Considering the Airline and its recent mishaps affecting sales, could be that a reluctance to pay for a bit more fuel is the driving factor here?
  10. He seems to be in Purgatory, and has been for some time!
  11. William Hurt Edit originally missed the earlier "brainfart"!
  12. " dah dah dada dada dada"......Batman Forever
  13. Not having visited Thailand in the last few months, coinciding with Leicester's rise to prominence: I was wondering whether there was any groundswell of support by the Thai population lately, with them being under Thai ownership, or is it still all about United?
  14. "Smokey" and the Bandit ..... Any of them!
  15. Gus, ..It was a while back now, but I believe I used "Ours" who also did the best EVA rates back then. There was a local Newcastle agents (recommended on this Forum) offering similar. I haven't actually used China personally for a while now, although have friends who swear by them. Nowdays I tend to book directly with airlines, although very recently I went back to a 3rd Party (Flight Centre) for an upcoming return from UK-BKK with Emirates, who were not reducing their 1st Class fares as on previous occasions, and achieved the required 33-40% reduction in fare. Unfortunately I cannot get those
  16. I know you've been around a while now Gus, but have you considered the China Airlines (Taiwan) via Amsterdam "Premium Economy". The price is generally around that £1000 figure that you are seeking and the good thing with their particular Premium Economy is that they do not have specific seating (as yet) and so you get a full-blown biz class seat and lounge use, but economy luggage etc. I say as yet, because on their new 777s they have a dedicate PE cabin with seating to match, but that aircraft does not serve the AMS-BKK route.
