  1. What I'm really saying Owen is that there are some like me who dont have any money to invest,I live on ,I lve on a small compensation pension +some disablity money, luckily I own my home but It is not an invetment as I need to live somewhere so If I sell it I have to pay rent and that would suck up any profit I made from selling the house.I was referring to all those who like me have to live on a small income with little or no extra cash that they can "invest".Guys like me live on small money in the UK but the same money in Thailand is enough for a life with extras I could not dream of in the U
  2. I also don't want to be in a position where my budget is too tight, but ,I do know that what some consider tight I consider rich.I have read with interest ,and not a little envy some of the figures that some retirees on the board have ,I look at these people with awe as I never in my work, earned in my 60 to 70 hours a week as a truck driver, as much as these guys have to retire on.I take with a pinch of salt a lot of the advice given in this and similar threads by people who seem to live a different kind of life to mine, but, give advice only from a "Rich"perspective. PS this is in no way a d
  3. Sorry to hear the sad news ,I do hope the family will get over their loss and all legalities are taken care of quickly.
  4. The only one left out was Awes father Hard.
  5. The marineplace is just opposite my favourite bar so I know it quite well and unless I was very stuck for some place to stay I would not stay there ,the pool is about the size of half a dozen normal baths and is way to small for swimming, and the rest of the place could do with a good clean.I have seen worse but not often.
  6. "his net pension is £750-£850 pm"I personally don't see that as too little especially as he no longer mongers , I live on about the same in the UK I drive a car I bought new and own my own home on which I am still paying the mortgage, finishes this year so very low now,so I don't understand where the problem is apart from his health ,and that was not realy something anyone can reliably predict.
  7. I think the quickest way to soi diana is to walk through the new mall and along 2nd rd ,I did say on another thread that this hotel is in the middle of nowhere ,but the new mall opening up has given it a better route to the hot spots of second rd.If the route through the mall is not open (I have not been there since it opened and don't know if it is ever closed or is open 24/7)then I still think the position of this hotel is not great,as there are no baht busses along this soi, unless you get lucky ,or you have to depend on the hotels baht bus to take you to 2nd rd I dont know if they will als
  8. Hi Oldtimer, I don't think that you should bother with a condo for such a short stay,I am a cheap charlie and I stay for 3 to 4 months so for me a condo is worthwhile, but ,for shorter stays the condo daily rates are just about the same as Hotel rates and depending on the standard of room against condo it could work out cheaper to get a hotel room.I use the Dianna Estates Condos (Soi Buakhow) and pay 10000 a month +utilities but the daily rate is 700-800 a day( I think)and there are many hotels that are in this price range and you might even get a long stay discount in a hotel for a stay of 3 w
  9. I have been fascinated by the topic from the beginning but, my interest was not with the fine or the fare to the pound ,I was more interested in where the fuck did the OP leave his bike so that it got Towed as most of the time the Thais and us Falangs seem to just park it next to another bike and leave it at that. Please let me know as I would be very interested, and it could stop me from getting towed .
  10. Bongo Billy I know that some will find this question weird ,but ,Is your mum blind as I have always been under the impression that only Blind people got the TV license free?. As for all the rest we in the UK are very good with the people who don't have a lot of money( don't even need to be British just have residency, I swear that I am not a racist just don't like giving my money to people who I think aren't really entitled) when they retire, unfortunately they are not so good if you have saved a little made extra provision for an extra pension and own your own home.
  11. Thats a shame I was in there many nights after 3am and enjoyed a late burger, mind you their kebab was pretty awful even at 29 baht.I only got home at the start of August .
  12. I do know that last year they had a low season monthly rate of 9999 baht, ( large ad hung in front of building) apart from that it is in a great location if you like soi buakhow,i do ,but if you don't then its a crap location. It has also not got any really loud bars nearby so should be fairly quiet (as quiet as pattaya gets)in the rooms .
  13. Dear crazedchef, from the little I know of you from your posts I would eat at your place anytime
  14. Hi, myself personaly I dont have a "company pension " because I never worked in an industry that had them (trucker)so I have 2 small private pensions that will give me the extra that I mentioned plus a small lump sum.If I move full time to LOS then any pension I get from the Government Is frozen and never goes up,but if I have my home in the UK it does.Luckily for me,in a retirement money sense only, I have other small pensions due to disability so I will be in a lot better shape than many pensioners in the UK who did not make any provision for themselves. One more thing, one guy of my acquaint
  15. I don't disagree with you to any great extent, but,It was not your decision or mine to make (or anyone else's) The guy who made the decision is the one who has to live with the outcome not anyone else, and not all of the people who come to Pattaya are of great means .Some of the guys on here are very well off ,so much so that quite a few ,If you believe them are actually better off in retirement than I was when working 60 to 70 hours a week.We cant foretell every thing that happens so sometimes we take a chance and it works and other times it doesn't ,this poor bloke has got himself in a bit of
  16. I know that there is a place in soi buakhow that sells waffles its right on the corner of soi metro next door to the Jasmin Hotel, they also sell good ( I enjoy them) burgers and cheap phone calls home
  17. Well done little man you can see the error of your ways, now we just have to work on your memory as mummy seems to recall that you started calling the big bad man names and you know that is not what your mummy wants ,there is no point denying it little man as the posts are there for everyone to see so be a good boy and play nice. otherwise the big bad man will take you up on your offer of a meeting, and take your dummy away from you. PS. I see that the Vocabulary that I promised is working ,but we do still need a little work on our spelling.
  18. I know that curries all over the UK are a little different to reflect the different tastes of the various towns and cities .Glasgow in common with Newcastle have the hottest vindaloo curries ,because the big strong drunken curry eaters from those places seem to think that the more pain their curry causes them the more manly they are.I was born in Glasgow( have lived in the south for almost 40 years) but I have only ever eaten southern curies and when I tried a Glasgow Vindaloo curry I could not eat it because it was too hot and was therefore uneatable by me .
  19. I am not certain but "I think though I could be wrong"that the Friendship supermarket on south pattaya rd (just opposite soi Buakhow)had some on the shelf last year when I was in town,I'm sure I saw some while I was browsing the shelves. PS have you tried the International Bakery just off soi Chiapoon which is just off soi Buakhow they also I believe have a place somewhere in Jomtiem.just remembered the soi is called soi bowling green as the bowling green is on this soi.
  20. I stayed at the LEK for 4 months (2 different stays) and swam every day right next to the buffet line so I saw how the food was treated ,it was never covered, ever, and no one even shooed the flying insects away food was handled by people who did not look to be at all hygienic and I personally found it repulsive. There are better places in Pattaya to eat . I still like the hotel for its (04-05) Prices( now stay longer each trip so use a condo), Pool and Location but could not in good conscience recommend the Buffet.
  21. Too many days to count but I will be there on April the 23 or maybe even the 16 if I can swing it.
  22. I got it Right before I saw the pic,but only because I read the question wrong,I thought it said ,is the Sattahip area close to Pattaya or near Chiang Rai?
  23. It is funny when sitting at home ,but you wouldn't laugh if you were in a strange town and were just following a bus or van and the road erupted below you.I don't see the need for these things as they are obviously dangerous to some, who may be poor drivers but, it is still not all their fault.
