Nation journalist held up at gunpoint by 'police'
FatherMojo replied to lovedog100's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Yeah, I read some stories on thaivisa where people have been killed and when the relatives of the deceased went to the police the first question was basically... "How much baht you got?" Sad state of affairs. FatherMojo -
Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant
FatherMojo replied to MeGoDanceNow's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I said it once and I'll say it again... "Nana by the sea." G'teed success. The owners could set up the bars and require that all liquor purchases run through them. Just take 5 baht per can of beer and 30 baht per bottle of spirits and something from the draft sales. Easy as pie. Or turn it into some type of wellness location with organic foods. As it is now, it will just look like the Made in Thailand complex or any other non-air conditioned place selling wares. Who wants to go shopping is the scorching heat. FatherMojo -
Looks very clean and nice! I found this link... http://www.pattayapeople.com/default.asp?F...IdArticle=25129 Looks like they opened a new building! FatherMojo

Sounds good, but can you tell us any landmarks close to this place. Most of us have no idea where 348/17 M,9 SoiBuakhao is. Wait... is this the place? http://www.soidb.com/en/pattaya/stay/hotel/d_apartment.html Any inside pics would be welcome... Thanks, FatherMojo

Actually, I always thought that a Pook type establishment would be a huge hit there. The street is does not have tons of vehicle traffic which should remove any shyness for the virgin lb aficionado. FatherMojo

5 go-gos? Maybe Soi LK Metro will become something like how Pattayaland was many years ago. One street with several go-gos which brought in the punters. I do hope that it happens as it gives people more of a choice in where to go. FatherMojo

And she did not report this to management to have him, the snake or both booted out? FatherMojo

It figures, doesn't it. FatherMojo

I think that themed go-gos are good for business. A way for each place to brand themselves as something a little different from others. And face it, a lot of guys like to see girls in uniform and the uniforms at Airport have been pretty much a hit with the punters. Also, how many guys would not mind being frisked by one of the the (hopefully) cuties at Alcatraz while she is dressed in her outfit... FatherMojo

I could never understand why people drive while drunk in Pattaya. There are enough ways to get home without rolling the dice on getting home while drunk. For the guys who wish to drive home drunk, please leave your ATM cards, bank details along with all associated passwords, account numbers etc, with me. Don't worry, the funds will be put to good use. Thanks! FatherMojo

I thought that it was 3 baht to send an SMS from your phone while in Thailand, maybe I was wrong about that. If you are not in Thailand, I know for a fact that it can cost 20 baht to send from Japan, but there is a discount plan you can apply for which is valid for 10 days and 20 messages with a cost of 15 baht per. So you can see that it is indeed quite a bargain. This is cheaper than SKYPE which comes in at a little over 2 baht per message. FatherMojo

Music at the Pattaya Beer Garden
FatherMojo replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Please do not increase the volume of the music. Pattaya has more than enough loud music venues to assault the senses. FatherMojo -
From what I understand all the mobile companies pay a fee to pass through CAT's networks which earns CAT 15 billion baht per year. Once 3G is set-up, the other carriers (AIS, True, DTAC), will no longer need to pass through CAT's networks reducing CAT's revenue by 15 billion baht. Obviously 15 billion baht is a nice piece of change and CAT is doing everything it can to hang to that money as long as possible. FatherMojo

Another mark against this place is that it is located on something of a dead end (cul de sac) so foot traffic will be mostly limited to people who have a reason to be on the Soi. Probably worth 8-10k with no key money and 10 baht on the 100 baht for the furnishings. FatherMojo

The train system in HK rocks! But this one.... Based on the article below, it looks like the Airport Rail Link was not completely thought through. Hopefully, someone from the board will have a chance to try it and post a review. Oh, Poor Airport Link BANGKOK: -- Finally, the Airport Rail Link is officially opened for commercial services on Monday (Aug 23), after seven years of construction. The high-speed trains, though, do not look as new as they should. In fact, they look as if they had been bought at a clearance sale. Even Chinese trains look far more dashing. The 28-kilometer rail route costs more than 30 billion baht in investment and has been subject to a vast amount of criticisms and negative press. Much of the grilling has been directed towards the project contractor, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction. Despite its name, the Airport Rail Link isn't actually connected to any airport. According to the original plan, the route should have linked Don Muang Airport with Suvarnabhumi Airport, but ended up with the last stop only at Phaya Thai Station in Bangkok’s downtown area. What’s worse, the station does not even connect with a BTS station which is just a short distance away. The first day of commercial run was nothing but a mess. Commuters paid full fares, but could not check in their luggages because the Thai Airways counters were closed and no one knows when they will open. Hundreds of current Airport Rail Link staff are not full-time employees of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). The railway authority hired Sasin Institute of Chulalongkorn University to recruit people and oversee salary payments on its behalf. It remains unknown which organization these employees are working for. Who will be held responsible when problems arise? How desperate it is to see how the SRT and Thai politicians wasted precious tax payers' money. Anyone who has been to Makkasan Station must have been upset about its poor condition that does not reflect the enormous investment put in. I cannot explain exactly how it looks. You’ve got to see it with your own eyes. Compared with Hong Kong’s Airport Rail Link, the difference are like heaven and hell. The road system around the Makkasan Station has not been expanded to accommodate more future traffic. Those who regularly pass through the area, especially during rush hours and on rainy days, would know well how terrible the traffic can be. Whoever is thinking about boarding the Airport Link train at the Makasan Station to Suvarnabhumi Airport should give it a second thought, because they could miss their flights. If anything, using the motorway could be a better choice. Moreover, travelers are not safe from hassles when they travel via the rail link to the international airport. They have to heave their luggages upstairs from the train station in order to check in at the airline counters on the forth floors. The Ministry of Transport has anticipated an operating loss in the first three years. But I doubt whether the SRT could really break even after the 3-yr period. Or the Airport Rail Link is destined to be in the sea of red ink forever just like our clunky rail services. ‘Mai Het Prathet Thai’ column, Thairath newspaper, August 25th, 2010 Written by Lom Plian Thit Translated and rewritten by Wacharapol Isaranont Please note that the views expressed in our "Analysis" segment are translated from local newspaper articles and do not reflect the views of the Thai-ASEAN News Network. http://www.thailandoutlook.tv/tan/ FatherMojo

wheres the best place to for something to eat
FatherMojo replied to codhead's topic in Restaurants and food
Many, many times I passed by this food stand (only open from late afternoon) located at the corner of Soi Buakao and South Pattaya Road. I think they serve a couple of different chicken dishes. Dish 1 is fried chicken and rice and Dish 2 is yellow rice with fall off the bone chicken. I tried Dish 2... That stuff was good, good, good! A simple soup is included along with sweet chili sauce to add to the rice. I think it was 40 baht in total. I recommend this place as an additional spot to try if you want a delicious, quick meal and want to expand your list of places to eat. FatherMojo -
Hopefully, your phone has a USB port... If so just connect your computer to the phone and copy the MP3 of the audio book into the phone. Wait... are the audio books in a format readable by your phone? FatherMojo

The Best Sushi All U Can eat Place in Pattaya?
FatherMojo replied to sponio's topic in Restaurants and food
I have not been inside that ShabuSushi place, but it is very popular across all - tourists and locals alike. It looks clean, bright and fresh so I can understand the attraction. Next time I am in town, I will give it a try. FatherMojo -
