  1. Very dangerous. Young women sexually assault you and take your money.
  2. I agree that you wouldn't want to go there for the food.
  3. I didn't think there was any mongering in MHS, but this sex scandal is currently shocking the community http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/national/30314371
  4. I was on Walking Street until 3 AM this morning, completely missed this.
  5. The "city of three mists" in the northwest corner of Thailand, capital of the province. Remote and mountainous, nestled in a narrow valley just a few kilometers from the border with Myanmar. About 260 km from Chiang Mai, 5.5 hours by minibus because of the 1,864 curves in the road. Pai lies about halfway and draws most of the tourists, making Mae Hong Son an excellent destination to escape the hordes. Temperatures ranged from an afternoon high of 37 to an evening low of 15. ARRIVAL I didn't care to spend 5.5 hours (each way) on a minibus, so I took the Bangkok Air prop plane from Chiang Mai, a 30 minute flight. Fares will remain competitive as long as more than one airline services the airport. Alternately, Kan Air uses the more modern jet aircraft Stayed at the Panarama Hotel, centrally located, 600 baht during high season, clean but basic. The elderly woman that runs it is very friendly and helpful. Wat Jong Kham Situated on the lake in the middle of town. A helicopter dropped some para-gliders Street vendors appear at sunset as folks gather to picnic or for a leisurely stroll around the lake. Tried a few restaurants on the lake. Sunflower was just OK but the Salween River restaurant, near the police station, was better. Featuring Sham and Burmese food, as well as Thai, I ordered this chicken casserole, portion was more than I could finish, for 70 baht. Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu Towering over the valley, the twin stupas aren't that impressive but do offer some nice views. You can ring the bell without having to buy everyone a round. Su Tong Pae, The Bamboo Bridge About 12 kilometers north of town, a lovely 900 meter bamboo bridge spanning rice paddies, connecting the village of Ban Kung Mai Sak with temple Wat Pu Sama. There's actually two bridges, one for just crossing the river This couple caught out in the sun too long Some other interesting characters about Nightlife The Crossroads biker bar stays open "late" (i.e. midnight). At the town's busiest intersection, by 11 PM there's vehicle every 3-4 minutes. Two hot young farang women were leaving just as I was arriving, noticed them earlier by the lake, slamming down large bottles of Chang. I took a seat at the open air bar and ordered a drink just as one of the girls dropped her pants, squatted, and took a pee in the street. It's not that there wasn't a woman's toilet in the bar, but maybe it was out of order? Next Up: Pai Minibus leaves at noon, 150 baht either to Pai (106 km) or Chiang Mai (260 km). See my Pai picture report. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/64434-pai/
  6. That's near the Lod Cave, halfway between Pai & Mae Hong Son. I didn't have my own transportation. I brought home a few bags of these
  7. Pai is overridden with backpackers, they're just young people enjoying life in a budget. You can get a dorm room with WiFi for 160 baht and rent a bicycle. Watch for my next pictorial trip report: Mae Hong Son
  8. Pai Canyon, mercury dropped to 12 degrees one night. Hot Springs Lod Cave. You don't see the bats but you can hear them. Coffee in Love Healthy restaurants, bean burger, homemade lasagna I had a few passion fruit daiquiris at the Witching Well
  9. For this visit, I decided to try the night train. First class ticket was 1450, plus an extra 500 for a private berth, not up to Euro standards but still comfortable, although quite cold. Brought my own food, cigars, Jack Daniels, and Bluetooth headphones. The train left Hua Lamphong station at 7:30 PM and took 13 hours. Usually don't sleep well on the train, but there was some nice morning scenery. Revisited the Zoo/Acquarium The koala looked like he had a rough night The orangutan uses the same hair salon as President Trump. Penguins, well dressed Some chow down.... ...others lie around The Khao Soi was delicious Sunday Night Market was packed Live music was alive But bars still close at midnight, here Loi Kroh quickly silences A few miscellaneous
  10. The letter only goes to recipients living abroad.
  11. Besides an annual heartbeat letter telling you your benefits may be discontinued unless you respond, they also send a tax statement. These are the two items I receive through the mail from the SSA.
  12. Someone needs to inform folks that an 'American' breakfast means a bottomless coffee cup!
  13. I don't go to Hooters with high expectations but I got three slices of turkey and mashed potatoes, with some good eye candy. The dressing was awful but my drink was liberally spiked, so I walked away feeling OK when other places were charging more.
  14. I had the Hooters special at Sukhumvit Soi 15 Bangkok. About 15 customers mid-afternoon. Turkey was moist and tender, mashed and fried potatos, sprouts and carrots, ham was just ok. Service was poor, I asked for apple pie for dessert but was served minced. Ordered tropical Long Island (with passion fruit). Total bill was 789.
  15. I live in Bangkok, it's hottest from March to August (with very high humidity), but the hottest month is April.
  16. Hooters Christmas
  17. Maybe time to change the marketing strategy? The show only achieved 2/3 the 50,000 vehicle sales target. Too old for a foursome?
  18. I've never ordered one there before. Thanks for the warning.
  19. 11 Long Islands X 4 shots per drink X 1.5 ounces per shot = 66 ounces of hard liquor (i.e. one shot under 2 liters). Wouldn't you be dead?
  20. Get your kicks down on Route 66 How would you like your minivan decorated like this?
  21. I attended this year's show today, 1.5 million are expected. Admission is 100 baht. My truck was there ... some nicer vehicles ... with lots of prettys The pretties wore mostly black and white gowns attire had to be approved in advance. Very conservative, not much exposure, but that doesn't mean they can't hop on a bike and flash some knee! Afterwards I visited Flan O'Brien's Irish Pub downstairs, just leave the bottle! I had to sober up with an Irish Coffee before heading home Cheers
  22. The images in the first row don't identify the restaurant. The sign of a poor marketing department!
  23. Went to the Photo Fair at BITEC in Bang Na today. No beauty pageant or Thai Penthouse models this year, but at least the Epson girl was hot.
