  1. I assume it’s a social security rule to prevent fraud, so they won’t keep making deposits after you’re gone and have a spouse or someone else steal it.
  2. The paperwork is easy, should just do it yourself if you have the required funds seasoned properly in a Thai bank.
  3. I changed having my social security deposited at Wells Fargo to Bangkok Bank in October. My deposit this month was still to Wells Fargo but I checked the MySSA website and they now have the details for Bangkok Bank, so I expect next month’s deposit to go to Bangkok Bank. I spoke with the Bangkok Bank staff near Soi 6 and they submitted the paperwork for me. However, I had to create a new restricted account with no internet or ATM access to receive the payment, even though I have another account at the same branch.
  4. It can be extremely dangerous, leaving you to the mercy of sextortion artists. Be safe, Don't Wank! https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/blackmail-online-sextortion-suicides-videos-photos-sexual-police-advice-a8337016.html
  5. I got my 9th extension yesterday at Changwattana. Have blisters on my feet today because I haven't worn dress shoes for a year, nor long trousers. For the second consecutive year, I was the only one there wearing a tie. They treated me like royalty.
  6. They may assume that upon retirement all kept paying for the health insurance that was provided while employed. I don’t recall what the coverage was, but I worked several years, paid taxes, and contributed. Hence, I’m hoping I’ll remain exempt. I’ve been extended 8 times and can’t recall hearing of anyone being forced to change their visa, so maybe they’ll reward me for my contribution.
  7. I’m on retirement from a Non-OB visa and hoping they forget about us.
  8. They should market the Impossible Whopper with a non-alcoholic beer.
  9. I remember my first visit to Thailand in 1992. I ate at a fast food chain near the Nana intersection called Tikki Burger that featured a very spicy bean-based burger. The restaurant was filled with Thai teenagers, I was the only farang, and the burger was so spicy I couldn’t finish it.
  10. My first visit to Thailand was 1992, second was 1998, didn't experience Pattaya until my third visit, February 2003. I stayed at Siam Bayshore Resort, which I thought was a great place except for the 800 baht joiner fee! I only stayed a couple days before returning to Bangkok, but I enjoyed myself so much I came back the next week, booking Residence Gardens. I believe I used the special FLB Deal from this website. I moved to Pattaya in October 2004.
  11. There's a lot of action on the south side of Sukhumvit these days. Just across the street is Artbox, a night market between Sois 8 and 10, and the latest craze there is ax throwing. Sharpen your axe and skill.
  12. These were at dusk today with an ultra wide lens, previous photos seem to suffer from shrinkage
  13. Today I had an avocado burger from Teddy's Burger in Bangkok and it was a tasty burger
  14. Crab and Chanthaburi noodles at Savoey Seafood
  15. Honest, I didn’t put it there. It was a friendly, neighborhood bar. Pulaski Street, as I recall, and it never closed at midnight.
  16. The GoGo scene in Chiang Mai is not impressive, so I mostly do the live music bars, which are great. Worst thing about northern Thailand is the bars close at midnight. I found this sticker on a bench at the North Gate Jazz Coop, Wolski's is a bar in my home town I used to frequent in the 1970's ? The 30 minute flight oto Mae Hong Song cost 1850, otherwise it 's 6 hours n a minibus. I took the minibus back to Chiang Mai and stopped off halfway in Pai for 3 days. Mae Hong Son has only 2 bars, easy to meet most tourists in town, usually only a few dozen. Pai is always fun and is overridden with backpackers. It sure was HOT out in the Pai canyon.
  17. Recently took a trip to northern Thailand, flew VietJet from Bangkok for 641 baht each way, but no checked baggage and only one carry-on, so I took all my photos with my phone. Stayed at the Ramming Lodge once again, has a nice monger's sound to it. Couldn't wait for a bowl of Khao Soi, so I ordered one at the airport as soon as I landed. Otherwise, I'll let the photos tell the story. MAE HONG SON PAI
  18. Outlawed some places to prevent the spread of infections http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2011/02/28/experts-shocking-warning-dont-let-fish-chew-on-your-feet/
  19. A thousand minutes of documentary film making at it's finest. This movie was riveting. I remember registering for the selective service a day after my eighteenth birthday, thank God I wasn't called. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1877514/
  20. Heres a Patpong update: Ive been a customer of Kings Castle I for 25 years and the owners never invested any money to improve the property, until this year. See my nostalgic 1992 trip report here: http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/62014-bangkok-trip-report-21-years-ago-w-photos/ Amazingly, Kings Castle I has been completely remodeled, with a new exterior sign and fully renovated interior. For those that prefer the old way, Kings Castle II next door is still the same. On any given night, these bars may have as good a lineup as any GoGo in Thailand (not to be confused with Kings Corner, which has ladyboys). Sharks had opened a branch on the Surawong end but it didnt last very long. It seems like the hawker in front of Barbar Fetish Club has been there forever. I've never entered this bar. Club Electric Blue is no longer a GoGo but now a high-end Steakhouse with prices that rival El Gauchos. Dont know about the quality. While examining the menu, the manager assured me they had the best steak on the Soi. I told him Le Bouchon was pretty good. The Smokin Pug was my favorite restaurant in the area, but they moved closer to Lumpini Park last year, so I usually head over to Samboon Seafood for a crab dinner, its about a 15 minute walk. The third Bangkok Hooters now occupys what was previously Flam OBriens Irish Pub, on Soi Thaniya at the foot of the BTS. Sorry, no pictures this post, but I did manage to leave my camera bag (with over 85,000 baht worth of equipment) in Pink Panther. I usually order a Long Island Iced Tea there and, thinking it was probably diluted, I ordered a second when the Bar had some real cuties. Perhaps the drink wasnt as watered down as I thought? Fortunately, my waitress chased me down the street like I was trying to run out on the check.
  21. Here's touring MHS province via motorcycle
  22. Business Class has more legroom, economy is comfortable Ferry arrives at Khao Takiab, taxi mafia to the Hilton is 250 baht. The two bar areas are Soi Bintabaht (near the Hilton), and Soi 80. https://www.thethailandlife.com/pattaya-to-hua-hin-ferry-service https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g297922-Activities-Hua_Hin_Prachuap_Khiri_Khan_Province.html Cha-Am is another beach community a half hour north.
  23. Its hard to find good corned beef in Thailand, but the Reuben was good at P on R
  24. I enjoyed the Hilton. Centrally located, can be affordable off-season, has a large pool with a swim-up bar. Pattaya is full of beer drinkers. Hua Hin is full of wine drinkers.
