Idefix, I see nothing that supports your description on any internet site. A person over 50 can apply IN THAILAND for a retirement visa with proper documentation. The stamp is for 1 year. They can then immediately, apply for a multiple entry (3900 baht, I think) that's valid for the remainder of the stay. Where's this 3 month stuff coming from? Got a link?

I've been looking at trans-Pacific flights to get back to Pattaya, and those going into Narita and Inchon are all under sold. Onward flights to BKK from both cities are generally full up (biz and first class, at least).My flight SFO to Inchon in first class has me in the first class cabin alone. Inchon to BKK is full up. It seems USA to Asia routes are hurting for passengers, where intra-Asia routes are quite full.

I did my retirement visa off an initial tourist visa in Thailand. I didn't have to do it in some other country, hence why I gave a price in baht. I never heard of any requirement that you do it outside Thailand. Mine was 9 years ago, however. Idefix, are you saying the rules have changed in that regard?

About 5000 baht for a multiple entry if you do it all yourself, plus costs of medical check, photos, copying costs, bank letter etc

Wings, if you're over 50, retirement visa with multiple entry is the way to go. Dead simple to get and maintain.

That might be the U.S.reporting limit, but it is in no way the limit to the amount of money you can send or receive.

I think the pool of candidates might be Thai girlfriends. He did say Thai national. That's a very decent salary on the face of it for a Thai.

They need to ask you what the money is to be used for. I just say living expenses while in Thailand, or say planning on buying a condo. There's no follow up or investigation, they just have to fill out some form. They may hold up the transfer until you call them, so it's best to get it done. No worries and no limit I know of. I've transferred much more than that and there's no problem.

They'll probably think you're Thai at first. That's not a problem if you answer them back in English. Many gogos don't let Thai males into the Gogo, but if you're able to say you're American, they'll be fine. They've seen it all before and generally understand America has many ethnic groups. You'll do fine. Have a good time!

Agreed. But with the new quality tourists commendering them at high prices, I don't see how managing them will work. More buses isn't the answer, because outside of busy times, they are running empty and accounting for most of the traffic.

Last thing the city needs is more baht buses on the roads.
