Okay, here is a picture...but, the problem is that if I use the PREVIEW function to display it, it does not appear. However, if I press ADD REPLY, the picture will appear. Make sure the picture filename appears in the FILE ATTACHEMENTS box. Incidentally, this picture is of a guy on a ladder doing welding with sparks and welding material falling down onto the street/sidewalk with nary a warning or a barrier to pedestrians walking under him. He damned near caught my hair on fire.

I deleted a couple of posts in this thread for crossing the line in the open section. Remember to read where you are before getting saucy!

I know of 6 board members staying at LK Metropole long term. It's a nice place.
-
I'd seriously advise you not to.

I think those very large pizzas were from the burger stand to the right of FLB (as you face the entrance). Most people order Don Joe food now.
-
Don Joe is about 50 feet down from FLB towards Covent Garden. There is a huge sign above the street with Joe's picture.

2 Bedroom/2 Bath Hotel/serviced apartment?
MM replied to Allover's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
LK Metropole (Soi Diana) and Pinewood Residences (2nd Road across from Soi 6) both have 2 Bed/2 Bath units. -
You set one up and I will be your best customer. My first meal when I get back to the states is always a Philly cheese steak. I'd give it some serious thought if you are considering moving here.
-
I don't know of any 600b pizzas. As I recall, they cost between 180 and 300b, depending on the toppings.

It came to my attention a few nights ago that a long time board member and customer of FLB didn't know that he could order any Don Joe Italian Restaurant menu item in the FLB. Just ask for the "Menu Don Joe" (saying it like a Thai "menooo don jo" works) and then tell your service person which item number(s) you want. Within a short time, a (generally cute) waitress in a beret will start wandering around the bar looking for you. The food is good, the service is pretty fast, and the prices are the same as if you ate in the restaurant. FLB has been doing this for years, but apparently it's not well known.

I got my Thai license about a year ago, and as I recall, I needed the following: 1) Health certificate 2) Certificate of residence from Immigration 3) Long term visa (not tourist VOA) 4) 2 1X1 inch pictures for each type of vehicle license I would want to drive (car, truck, motorcycle) As for testing, they give you basic eye tests and reaction tests, but if you have a driving license certified as valid for a type of vehicle, you are allowed to forego the driving test. In my case, I had an automobile license, but no motorcycle license, so I had to take the motorcycle driving test...which was quite difficult for me, since all the signs and instructions are in Thai. I failed the test miserably, in my opinion, but I was given a "pass" by the testing officer. For a complete list with more explanation see Applying for Thai Driving License
-
So, I went to Immigration with my residence contract and paid 200B each for two letters indicating I had a residence in Thailand. I apparently needed one letter for each class of license (motorcycle and car). And I was encouraged by the immigration officer to rush to the driver's licensing office to get my license renewed because she said I shouldn't be driving with an expired license . This, of course, contradicts the information received from the drivers licensing officer who told me to go ahead and drive for up to 1 year with an expired license -- no problem. The truth lies somewhere in between, I suppose.

Every bar and gogo owner I have talked to has said they will close on 1 April at 6pm, but many will be opening "late" on 2 April (since the election is finished at 3pm on 2 April anyway). If you go out at 9pm on 2 April, you should be okay.

My current Thai license expired on 30 March 2006, so yesterday (the day of expiry), I went to the licensing office way the hell out of town and presented the information that is listed on the Thai Visa License Renewal information. Sadly, that information does not mention that you also need to have an affidavit of residence from the Immigration department in Jomtien (another 40 km round trip drive). But, the good news is that, oddly enough, they assured me that if I let my current one year license expire, I would have up to one year to return with the expired license and supporting documents, at which point they would give me a 5 year license. From what I gather, they are permitting (and even encouraging) me to continue to drive for a year with an expired license, and at my convenience, they will reward me with a brand new 5 year license. I just love this place!

If you provide a reasonable explanation as to why you don't have a non web based email when you send your request for membership, it might just be heard sympathetically

Please don't send it to me. Send it to PattayaPete.

Yes you did.

Just in case some poor soul took this thread seriously and actually believed a couple of these responses, I have moved it to a more appropriate section.

Golf Programme - February/March 2006
MM replied to doghaus's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
FLB can hold the registration event, Feb 26, and we can sponsor the Texas Scramble event on Feb 28. As I recall, Keith may have told me he can even play golf, but I am waiting for him to confirm that. -
Yes, I was able to buy cigarettes on Nov 4 when I arrived, but they were not there on Dec 7 as far as I could tell.
-
I just came in through Don Muang (BKK airport) where I normally buy a carton of cigarettes before going through customs. I checked with the Duty Free shop where I usually buy smokes and they said they no longer sold cigarettes. I didn't check all the shops, however. Has anyone found cigarettes for sale recently in the arrivals area?
-
It is not a good place for smokers. They have a 500THB surcharge if you smoke in the room, or at least, they did when I stayed there last year.
