Carrying Passport in Thailand!
doolish replied to Bornloser's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, Been coming to LOS for many years, and lived here since 2005. Went to a LOS D.L. center and showed them my British D.L. and asked Boss Man how long i can drive in LOS on it. He checked on his computer and said, 12 months sir, and if you leave LOS in that time, on your return you get a further 12 months. Some years ago i stopped doing border runs and got a P. to S. due to being married to a Thai national. At this time i went to a LOS drivtng lic. center. showed them my British D.L., which was all groups and asked for a Thai D.L. All i had to do was to get a medical and bring redsults back -
Hi, Frostfire you are correct, Happened to me in Tesco's, also, though not in Pattaya, Only one checkout open, about 30 c/o's all together. A girl started to open a desk, so i thought, so i went to that. Was greeted with, sorry sir the girl is just training. I had a trolley full of goods, so i pointed to that and said you can start her training on that, and walked out. The bloke tried to stop me and said, you can't do that, i replied i just have, and the girl has learned her first lesson on how to restock shelfs. Very seldom go to Tesco's now..

Hi, As people have said, plenty of other options. Stop moaning about to few English progs. This is in Thailand, and they cater for Thai's,, and why not, if they throw in a few English progs. be thankful. How many progs. have U.K. got catering for other countries. I have True, With the progs. you can choose the audio, ie. English, Thai etc,.if you press the audio button and then select. But as in LOS it sometimes does not work. But i am happy. Back home 6 years ago i was paying 45GBP's per month for Sky T.V., Over 2000B at todays ex. rate. i expect it costs more now. The one eyed Budda str

Hi, Agree with you Joe. Also if my memory serves me correctly, the U.S. had to revert to the slower type, older, prop. planes for certain jobs. As their so called "super planes" were to fast for what was required of them, They found these older planes were far better, for what was required. Horses for courses springs to mind. Fast jets, in my mind, are only intercepters, and you only have one shot, if you miss, the time and distance to do a 360 is huge. Never knew of the place and will give it a call next year. Thanks for the info. very good... -
Hi, Sorry about that C.T. I was wrong,. It was the 10 year old one i meant, I've slapped my wrist.

Hi C.T., There is more than one store run by Tesco's I.O.M. Ltd. in this small Island, There is one in Ramsey, Peel, Castletown and Port Erin, as well as Douglas. and the Glenmorrange 12 year old, which they sell at about 22GBP's, is the standard one they make, in a 70cl. bottle., not the 18 year old, or one that is kept in a Sherry keg, or Port keg to mature. Also Tesco's Lotus, and Big C, which i was in this morning, in Udon, Thailand, were selling the same type bottle, 70cl's, of Glenmoorange at 1650B, over 30GBP, at todays exchange rate, as i quoted. Tesco's in the Island is registered as

Hi, C.T. Last year, Nov., got a bottle of Glen. single malt, 70cl, for 22GBP's in Tesco's, in the Isle of Man, my home country. I did not say the U.K. as the Island is not in the U.K.,. They had the 18 year one for about 5 GBP's. more, Which i do not like They also had one done in a sherry cask for about, 27 GBP's. I have also bought it in the U.K. be it a few years ago for the same price.. A very good malt in my thinking. I do not like the Islands malt, some taste a bit peaty to me IMO.

Hi, For the last 6 years i even find it hard to get a Christmas card in LOS. Plenty of new years cards in Tesco's etc. Same this year. With having to take the kids to school on Christmes day, and banks and shops open, it does not feel like Christmas. Now New year, that is different. The Thai's hve three new year days they celabrate, the western one, the Chineese one and the Budda one.

Hi, Myself i prefer Glenmorangie, a single malt and found in Tesco's and many off lic. It works out about 1600B a bottle, and no silly thing in the neck of the bottle, Imported over here in the bottle. Just over 30GBP's. Costs me back home about 22GBP's a bottle. I tried the 18 year stuff and I don't think it is as nice as the 12 year old, just my choice. Got my bottle in for New Years eve, Just a tip, don't offer a Thai a drinck of it, they will only put coke in it, Yuck..

Hi, Liked flying with Thai from Heathrow. The flight from my home, was changed to Gatwick, instead of Heathrow, so not worth the hassle, now. I now fly to and from Man. Now find Qatar quite good.. Don't get the night flight from BKK, you have a 7 hour wait in the Middle East. From 0100Hrs to 0745Hrs. Not the best. The flight to gatwick leaves about 0200Hrs though.

Hi, Been going there, Tue. and Fri., market for about ten years. Get all my clothes and other things there. Very good. The only thing was that after about 15muins. It was to hot for me, I had all i needed by then, so told the wife to do the shopping and i would sit outside, in other words in the front of a bar, nursing a cold beer, and watching life go by. I'm sure you all know how long it takes ladies to shop. -
Hi, Yes quite a few cafes do it. I buy my B.P. at Big C. Very good. But cannot get all the time, so keep some in freezer. Love it. Though not everyone does. The best i got was on Soi6. Going towards the beach on the left hand side just below the Queen Vic. Cheers Doug.

Hi, Quote from Lovedog. "few hotels will have a way to boil water." Don't know what hotels you stay in. I only stay in the cheap ones and every one i have been in, in LOS, has a water heater, or kettle, as i call them, in every room. Also a kitchen where you can get them to boil water, if you ask them. Just in case the kettle in your room breaks down. Also most of the bars, which i have visited, have a water heater in them. So what is the problem in getting boiled water, in Patts. If you drink, coffee, tea, soup etc. you will find these things are not made with bottled water, in most places.

Hi, Five years ago i was looking for prop. in Patts. I wanted a three bedromm, single story with two bathrooms, detached, English type build. The only reasonable prop. like this, that i could find, new and unfurn. that suited me, was at just over 3MB, at the exchange rate then, approx 45,000GBPs. Since then prop. prices have gone up a lot. I decided to buy a house in Udon Thani. Same spec. 980,000B. Then about 14,000GBP's. Including curtains and some furn.. Now i can get 2MB. for my house. A couple of years ago land prices rocketed some by over 100%. I'm glad i choose Udon now. Not as hect

Hi, Pap. Why does he look like a scouser. Has he horns, big ears, a crook nose. to put it plainly have you ever been to Liverpool, and do you know where the word scouse came from. I have spent a lot of my time there. The most hospitable and helpful people i have ever met. And i have traveled the world. Mind you they don't suffer fools gladly. Maybe thats your trouble.

Hi, Butter is used on toast if you putting jam on it, or eating it without anything else, on the toast. Putting butter on toast when you are having eggs or beans with it is not necessary. The best rest. in the U.K. always do it this way. They did when i visited some of them. If you want to put butter on toast, when you are having eggs or beans on it, is up to you. My question is did you ask for butter, if not you cannot blame the chef, he was doing his job correctly, and knew what he was doing. Years ago bread was eaten dry. Then some bright spark had the idea of putting lard or dripping on

How many send or have sent ?
doolish replied to Parkwahn's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, Jacko. No, cars done 90K and I am replacing it this year. Not worth all the hassle and cost etc. of putting it into my name. Will do it the same way, with new car, H.P. at 0% interest. In wifes name. Keep my savings at home earning good interest. Wife has her own business and has more money in the bank, than i have as reserve back home. Bloke next door sold his house, in his companies name, for 1.6 million B. His wife said good that will be 800,000B for me. He said no. If you want more money than i give you, then you will have to go out to work for it. So she never got anything from the -
How many send or have sent ?
doolish replied to Parkwahn's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, For Park. to say everyone that has married will have sent money, is incorrect. I met my wife in Patts.,she was working as a cashier, not in a bar, I never sent her any money, not a penny, in the two years before i settled down in LOS with her. As for buying a house for her. If you are stupid enought to do that, it's your own fault. I bought my house, when i retired to LOS, in Udon Thani, for 14,000GBPs. Just under a million B then. A new three beds, two bathrooms. The house was put in my name, the land in hers. You can get the land in your name, but i did not want all the hassle. I got a -
Hi, Please do not put your life on the line by hiring a bike. I think you mean the peadal kind. Plenty of safer forms of transport in Patts. Not worth the risk. Cheers Doug.

Hi, My friend was talking to a guy that had just done a visa run to V.T. last week. He said the Thai Enbassey there have started to issue 12 months multiple "O" visas. He showed my friend his passport and it was correct. You still have to leave LOS every 90 days. Just across the border and back. My mate has still got 3 months to do on his visa, so he said he will try this. Worth checking up on, with Thai Imm.. There the ones that should know. I have always found them very helpful. Cheers Doug.

Hi, Yes, this is the law all over LOS. It can only be bought at certain times of the day in supermarkets and 7-11's. Not sure of the exact times, but i think 1100Hrs to 1400Hrs then from 1700Hrs. You can always get around this, but i would not want you to go against the law. Times will be displayed in supermarkets, in Thai.and English. Also no booze for sale on certain days in LOS. You can always get a drink in pubs and hotels. It is required for you to use forward planning when these days occur. They are well posted on boards etc..

Hi, Have you tried the Tuesday and Friday market. Sure i saw them there last year. From what i have seen you can get anything there. If they have not got what you want, ask. They should be able to get them within a week for you. Cheers Doug.

Hi, My bank, Lloyds TSB. in Britain will not send C.C.s or D.C.s outside the Btitish Isles. Was quoted this when i went into Lloyds bank last Oct. I have mine sent here by my daughter, by registered post. Just recieved my new debit card two weeks ago. Cost from my home by reg. mail 2 pound 50p. Recieved in four days. New C.C.'s or D.C's have no value, they will be replaced free, if lost or stolen, in post. They will not work until you have validated them. To validate them you have to activate them, with your PIN number, at an A.T.M.. Banks also do not send cards with PIN numbers in the same
