Hi, In fact tinned salmon tastes better than fresh salmon, and fresh tuna tastes better than tinned tuna. Why this is so I do not know. Was told by a chef, so I tried, and he was correct. Plus the fact that you had to cook the fresh salmon.

Hi, My Thai wife can fry a egg perfectly also bacon just great, not like a lot of people do in the U.K. i.e eggs runny and bacon which you have to break with you hands, as the knife won't cut it, to hard. Also she cooks with oil, I myself cannot stand butter, not hot enough for frying bacon and eggs. She has one of those cans which you pump to pressurise, fills it with cooking oil, and sprays a fine mist on to the pan. They are very good. Since 1970 I have eaten in a lot of Thai places and only had a couple of bad breakfasts. I make a point in telling them how I want my egg done, also my bacon. Thank god they were not like them photos. I would have sent it straight back. Cheers Doug.

Hi Agree with TE you left it far to late, if you had tried five to six weeks ago, as my mate did, you could have got a flight from LHR to BKK for approx 500GBPs. The early bird catches the worm. "Men are like hardwood floors, lay them right the first time and you can walk over them forever."

Hi, 4 I'm running TOT ADSL and when i connect to internet it states on the bottom of my screen, local area is now connected, Speed 100MBPS. As you are running only 1MBPS, as you state, it will be slow. I'm only on the medium speed connection, they have 3 packages to choose from, but this is O.K. for me, not to slow. The connection costs just over 500B per month. When travelling i use a aircard in my portable and that is slow. but what the heck, you can use it in Thailand anywhere you can use a mobile phone. Far better and safer than some internet shops. Cheers Doug.

hi, Hybrid. The Sun has all the paper on there web sight free, try www.thesun.co.uk. I read it every day for the sport, crosswords, puzzles etc. it,s usually updated at midnight U.K. time. Try a search for U.K. Newspapers on Google. There is a firm that gives different newspapers but you have to pay a fee each month. Cheers Doug

Hi, If people are coming to Thailand for a holiday I don't see the sense in bringing all that money with them in cash. If they are intending to live in Thailand the same applies. You don't get interest on your Thai bank account I came to live in Thailand 3 years ago, bought a house here, went to Thai bank to pay for the new house, they said the maximum I could withdraw with my UK debit card was 200,000 Bhat in any 24Hrs without any questions asked. I could withdraw the whole amount that the house cost if I phoned my bank and told them what I wanted the money for etc. and it would take about 3 days, I choose the first option and went down to the bank every 24Hrs until I had all the money to pay for the house and no questions asked. No hassle. Cheers Doug.

Hi, Been using TT&T for the last 2 years in Undon Thani and only had one problem and they were out within a hour. found out the dog had chewed through the line so they relocated it over two meters higher. This cured the problem and the charge was nil. I give the bloke a tip as he was very good. The only time i have problems is when i use the main computer in the house, the kids have been on chat lines and picked up a virus. I only use my own portable now and have no trouble. and i keep it locked when not using. Cheers Doug.

Hi lost, Nice to here from you. I'd say go for it. In most of the areas i've been in You can get everything meat from Europe, Austrialia, New Zealand etc. The only thing I find hard to get is pickled onions, so I make them myself. The cost of living is also a lot cheaper up hear. I bought a new three bedroom house with two bathrooms for 1,080, 000B, and this included land and all the transfer deeds, which came to 35,000B, the same type of place in Pattaya would have cost me 3 to 4 million Baht. If you want to check on the local website here it's www.udonmap.com It's very good and will answer any of your questions. Cheers Doug

Joe You don't have to speak Thai to live outside the areas you described. I have lived in Thailand for the last 4 years. 6 months in Pattaya, which was enought for me IMHO. 18 months in Korat at the wifes home and then I bought a house in Udon Thani and lived there for the past 2 years plus. I can not speak or read Thai but have enjoyed myself and got on with all the locals. You must realise that once you leve the areas you stated, the other areas have good schools where the pupils are taught English. As my two adopted daughters can verify. So lost I would suggest you ingore these negitive vibes and go for it, I did it and did not look back. If your ever up this way give me a call I will show you around and have a spare room in which you can stay. The only time I leave is in the school holidays in April in which I go back to the wifes house. Cheers Doug

Hi, Bought a house Jan. 2006, Price for land and 3 bedroom bungalow 1,080,000B, transfered that ammount of money to pay for house over 6 days, you can only transfer 200,000B a day using your debit card, unless you phone your own bank first. I put land in wife name and house in mine. There was no 30% etc. to pay to Thai gov. for 'withholding' whatever that is. There was not problem at all with purchase the trouble came when you went to land office to register the land, the process took 2 days, we were half way through some forms when the staff suddenly stops work and goes for lunch, told to come back in a hour. Still this is a one off and the advantages of living here far outway this minor problem. Cheers Doug.

Hi Wanted alterations to house, did not have a Thia. bank account at time so went into Bangkok Bank to enquire. They said that without me phoning my own bank i could only transfer 200,000B a day from my debit card. I wanted 250,000B so did it in 2 days 200,000B first day and 50,000B second day. This is still in effect now as I've use this method to get money to buy a car, 3 days at 200,000 a day. Cheers Doug. -
Been put back to the 23 Jan. 0100-0600Hrs. Cheers Doug.

Hi Darkman, I would not worry about the 40 pounds internal flight. I've justed booked a return flight with Air Asia, Udon Thani to BBK for 1,812B. About 26 pounds, the flight takes just under a hour each way and anywhere else internal is less than 40 p. This price is for internet bookings only. Cheers Doug. Just enjoying my first year in my new house in Udon, would not swap LOS for anywhere else.

Hi, Need a bit of help. I'll want to send some personal and household items tools etc. to LOS. i.e between half to one cubic metre. Has anyone done this, and which way is the best. I beleive air goes by weight, how much per kilo? and by sea it's volume, how much per cubic metre? Also can anyone recomend a good company. I know prices vary so a approx. will do. Thanking you Doug.

PS they have a serurity guard on duty at night time at the bottom of the steps. But you will always get drunks making a loud noise and slamming doors no matter where you stay. And the food is good. I enjoyed my stay but must admit around Xmas and newyear 6 is noisy. If you don't like noise Tropical Bert's, the owner worked as manager in the QV. has opened on Soi 6/1 and the rooms are far superior, but he hasn't many rooms and you have to book in advance, same price as QV and I believe he gives a 10% discount to guests on food and drink. This is a new building at the top of 6/1 2nd road end. Doug.

Hi Oxman, The rear stairs are metal but are not the old fashioned type, They are quite wide, two people can go up side by side and are they are quite safe and solid, when you get up to your floor there's a balcony with a good concrete wall on the out side uou have a key to open the door to get inside. They do this because the bar closes at 0200Hrs and you can't get into it. Before the bar closes there is a entrance on the ground floor. The fire escape is handy because if you do not want to bring a BG down Soi 6 you use Soi 6/1, so the girls on 6 don't see. I'm old and unsteady on my feet, not with drink, and I feel safe on them. The BG's do not mind using them, at least no one complained to me, and some of them thought it was good because they did not like going through the bar and everybody looking at them. I would not let it put you off. Fly out from Man. on the 13 Sept. but will be going up to Udon Thani where I have bought a house and living with my girlfriend so I cannot visit the QV by myself as she used to work for the boss there, and the grape vine will reach her, so i'm staying in Bangkok for a couple of night before flying to Udon. Last month I flew down with Asia Air 908B single if booked on the internet. 1440B if you book at airport. Cheers Doug.

Hi, Majoka, The delux rooms are on the top floor, from the bar this is 3 stories up. I,ve stayed at the QV for the last 4 years, last year for 4 months, I always stay in room 14 on the first floor as I am getting old and don't like climbing to many steps. Plus the steps are steep. There is a second entrance on Soi 6/1 via the fire escape which is less steep Rooms 14 and 15 both look out onto Soi 6 but do not have a balcony but the rooms are very good, TV, DVD, tea and coffee making facilties fan and A/C. and ample room. The only down side is the noise from Soi 6 if there is a party going on. If you want it quieter choose room 12 on the same floor but facing Soi 6/1 which is a lot quieter. Hope this helps cheers Doug.

Hi, Need help to find the English name of a Hospital in Udon Thani. It's on road number 2 going into Udon from the south and just pasted the big crossroads with the 210 ring road. It's on the left hand side. It has mainly military personal working there. It's just before the Thai airforce base. Thanks for your help Doug.

Hi, Everybody raves about EVA. I come to Thailand every year, this time I decided to travel by EVA I left LHR on the 18 Sept 05 they had just taken on the 777-300 The aircraft was new, but there was no seperate air vents, I can live with that, the seat was good, I was near the back with 2 empty seats beside me so I raised the armrest and had a good sleep, I was told if I upgraded to the next class and there was empty seats you could not raise the armrest, I was pleased the lady told me this. The main complained was the service and food on the plane, it was awful to say the least. I came back on August the 3 this year hoping it was only a glitch with a new plane I was wrong. I booked my return flight with EVA 4 weeks defore travelling and got a code to give to EVA's desk as I had a open return, I was kept waiting for over 30mins as they told me I was not booked on the flight etc. I finally got it resolved. On the plane the service and food was crap. It took 20 minutes to get a drink of water, I did not go to the back of the plane to see the staff and get a glass off water as I wanted to see how long it took to get service. I'll be travelling back to LOS next month, Guess which airline I will not be going with. Cheers Doug

Hi Som, I paid 1,080,000B for mine, this included some funiture, A/C, frig, cooker, bed etc. this also included the price of land and all the paperwork. I bought this last Dec. and was the fist to buy so they were keen trying to get the first 6 houses sold, today the price for the same is just under 1,500,000B. The place has a small swimming pool etc. Cheers Doug.

Hi, Been living in Udon Thani now for 6 months, bought a new bungalow last year, 3 bedroom 2 bathroom etc. Living with TG and 14yr and 7 yr old children. Electric max. I've paid so far is 1400B for a month. Gas, a cylinder lasted just under 6 months, we eat mainly at home, and the cost for cylinder was 1300B. Waste removal and security 100B a month. Water, varies but max bill was 200B but that month we had a leak, water that is. normally between 100B and 120B. Everybody is different so asking about the cost of living is like asking how long is a piece of string or how much will my car will cost to run, without giving a model engine size or how you use it. A good example of this is the person living next door to me, same size house etc, eats out all the time and only him and TG living there, the electric bill last month was over 4000B. I had a accident in May hurt my back and broke my arm, at 0800hrs so not pissed, ambulance 8Km to hospital 2 x-rays on back and 2 x-rays on arm, pain killing injection arm set in plaster and a bag full of drugs to take 1550B total charge. I'm covered by insurance but being only a outpatient had to pay and claim back later. Cheers Doug.

TB's is very good but I think he has only 6 or 7 rooms, opened in Jan. this year top of Soi 6/1 2 road end. Stayed at QV for 5 months up to End Jan this year. Then there were no in room safes though i heard he was getting Electronic Safes put in rooms, as for Wi Fi there was none and no word of it being installed. Planning my first trip -
doolish replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi, Stayed at the RG 3 years ago, beds were big but 2 mattresses pushed together. Buggered my knee on the first night when they came apart. out of action 2 days. Also ordered a meal in room 10pc extra, came without cutlery or condiments, and was not very tasty. At the time you are going you could get a far better deal for half the price. Cheers Doug.
