Baht bus drivers overcharging?
doolish replied to Mescalito's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, Been here 2 months now and the latest rip off from the B Bus drivers is if they have only 2 to 4 passangers on board they will turn up the next Soi and then demand at least 10b even if you have travelled only a couple of hundred metres. I got on a B bus the other night on Beach rd. Soi6/1 going to W.St. he turns up Central Rd, only 4 passangers on board, all picked up at Soi 6, and demanded 10B from each of us. I only had a 10B coin and could not get change. The powers to be declined a increase in the min. B bus fares last month and said they should remain at 5B. but not many B bus -
Hi, Flew out on the 777-300ER on 18 Sept. from London. On arrival at the airport I asked about upgrading to Elite class, The lady at the desk advised me to stay where I was because the seating is 3-3-3 and she had put me in the middle row with 2 empty seats beside me. First time i've encounted this. I am pleased though it saved me money. Also there were at least another 7 people in the same situation. I was not impressed with elite class and did not think it would be worth upgrading, the seats are the same layout 3-3-3 and a foot rest which comes up like a reclining chair, prem. laura

Hi, Stayed at the G.Inn last year 1090B. Very good and food good. and staff great. I,ve booked in for 2 days 19 Sept. this year IMO if you think this is a S. hole I think it is ten times better than Nana, which I paid 1300B for 2 years ago, and so did the girls. I've stayed in both plus the Dyn.. The only down side is no pool but I did not come to LOS to swim. the TV was 21inch which i consider small, but who besides BG watch TV. I stayed at the RG in Pattaya 2 years ago, my vistits to LOS last no less than 50 days, after 2 days the beds, king size? which were 2 put together parted due

doolish replied to Tryingitout's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi, Stayed at the QV for the last three years, great Staying there for six months from Sept. 13500 per month which i think is great. Would recommend the QV or Lord Nelson to anyone. No pool but why pay 700B extra just for a pool. Cheers Doug 34 days to go. -
Hi, Coming out to LOS 18th next month with EVA from LHR £500 for a 12 months open return from eastwest and going to enjoy every minute. I was thinking of upgrading to E.Delux, after studing all your reports. Should I upgrade now or wait till I get to LHR. Cheers Doug.

Hi, I prefer T.C's rarther than ATM. For the last five years never had to stand in line to cash them, took my passport for the first time and then was given a receipt and told to bring this next time instead of passport, This place is only 100m from hotel and you get a higher rate of exchance on T.C's. On one afternoon when I went out I spent more money than I had intended so went to try to get cash from a ATM. After running around for three-quarters of a hour I finally got cash out of the seventh machine I tried, but it would onld pay out a maxium of 10,000Bath. This is my personal opinio

Hi, Tried to get a single from London HR For August as I will be staying for 12months but the price was nearly £400 so I got a 12 months open return on 18 Aug. from EVA for 35,000B approx £500. Also if you are over 50 get a multi entry retirement visa £90. valid for 12 months. 8weeks to go Cheers Doug.

Hi, After being let down by my usual travel agent, decided to give Westeast Travel a go. Just got my tickets today. A 12 months open return going with EVA, leaving LHR 18 Sept. at 2135Hr. Price £504 plus £79.90 Tax. At £583.90 for a 12 months open return I think this is great and would recomend anyone to give Westeast Travel a look. Less than a 100days to go. Great.

Hi Millwall, Just booked a flight from LHR on September 18, with Thai Air. £450 plus £62.20 taxes. This is with westeast travel for a 12 months open return. EVA was approx £30 more and you have to pay EVA £75 for changing your return date. I,ve found the cheapest for a short trip, up to 3 months, with Quatar, with one stop off, at £435 inc. taxes. I,ve never used this airline so don't know what there like. Cheers Doug 4months and counting

Listened to the program this week and from what i gathered the cheap flights were from BKK to the affected areas Cheers Doug.

Hi What has this to do with airline deals Doug.
-
Gus, £3,000 for a return to BKK. I hope that this is a private jet. I've booked a 12 months return with EVA leaving LHR in September for £475. Cheers Doug

People are talking about paying 15,000-20,000B a month plus Elec, Maid etc, etc. I retiire in Aug. And will be coming out to Pattaya in Sept. I've booked into a hotel for six months with my TG as i want to relax, after all my life working I want to take a rest for six months before deciding where to live. The cost off the hotel is 13,500B a month, so I would not consider the other option as I get everything I need, T.V., D.V.D., Fridge, A.C., Sheets and towels changed every day, Bottled water and tea and coffee free. Cheers Doug.

Hi Niall, If you have a gold or plat. credit card travellers cheques are commision free with most banks. When i buy my T.C's i show my card but pay for them in cash. Also if you have any left when you get home they will change them with no commision. I prefer to get sterling T.C.'s as you get a better rate of exchange in LOS over cash or D.C., and when you get back to U.K. you have sterling so you don't lose out on the crap U.K. exchange rates. Cheers Doug.

Which Visa should we apply for
doolish replied to kenandlat's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, Hoping to move to LOS in Sept. this year to live. A retirement visa in the U.K. costs £25. A three entry retirement visa costs £90. You must summit a medical cert. to say that you have no infectious medical conditions also a bank letter saying that you have a income of 800,000B approx. £12,000 this can be renewed in LOS every year. After applying for a visa you must use it within 3 months. Cheers Doug. -
Hi, Thanks a lot for all your replies they were all very helpful. I think I might take torronova advice and get a single ticket. The price for a single from U.K. is about £100 more than half the return ticket, this is without taking into account the extra you pay for changing you return ticket and all that it may entail, and might be the best. Thanking you for your time and wish you all well Doug.

Moving to Thailand for good
doolish replied to kenandlat's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi Ken, I'm like you I retire in May and am thinking about staying in LOS. Hope to apply for a retirement visa and sample the life for 12 months before commiting to anything. I'm keeping my house in British Isles until I'm sure. I've decided to stay in a hotel for 6 months which charge 13,500B a month all in and scout around. A couple off months ago a TG brought me to her flat which she said she paid 3000B a month, A/C and TV etc included, this was across the road from Tops. it was O.K. but when I asked at the agents I was quoted 7000B, One price for T. and one for F. I've got a steady GF but -
Hi 51 Went to Man. last year for a week. Hunt around the travel agents as they have different prices every week. There were plenty of flights for 9000B return but I found that most of them returned to BKK after midnight, also had to leave Pat. early in the morning.so I chose Phi. Air. at 9800B, this includes taxes, except 500B for leaving, and likewise on the return at Man. I left Patt. 0900Hrs and arrived back in BKK from Man. at 1300Hrs. The service going to Man. was excellent, good food, beer etc.. Coming back food was awful, but IMO this could be because the food was made in Man. and migh

Just taking swimming trunks ??????
doolish replied to Jacques2B's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi, Agree with Emil. I've be going to Los for the last 5 years and I only bring a extra one of each, shirt, underpants and socks, this is so I can change when I arrive in BKK., the plane may be delayed or you might want to have a quick tour around the bars and you don't want to be to high after a long plane flight. Then you can get some shopping in, very cheap. I buy the clothes to last the next 10 months and at a fraction off the price than at home. I wear mainly shorts, t-shirts and sandels most of the time but at night I wear long trousers and socks, as the mossies etc. seem to like me. A -
Hi Alan, Thanks a lot for your reply. I'm getting a retirement visa O-A which is valid for 12 months and renewable. I've been seeing a Thai Girl for the last 3 years and if everything goes alright, that why I'm spending up to a year out there before I decide what to do, I might be getting married, no adverse comments please. If anybody has any comments about travel arrangements I would be happy to hear. Thanking you Doug.

Hi, Been coming to Pattaya for the last 6 years but this year I retire and am hoping to spend at least 9 months in Pattaya from September this year before deciding to live out my years there. The problem I face is trying to get a 12 months open return to Thailand from the U.K.. The best I've come up with so far is £507 plus taxes on EVA from London. They say they cannot book a flight, outward and return, more than 11 months in advance for both trips. Therefore if I book now I will have to put a date on the return for Jan 06. If I want to alter the date I would have to pay Eva £75. If any

Hi, My two friends booked in June to travel from Man-BKK by EVA on Wednesday 5 Jan. for 6 weeks. lucky beggers. £465 from Man. changing at Heathrow. The fare was £20 more expensive than travelling from Lon., and as they live in the I.O.M. this was a good deal. Cheers Doug.
