  1. Following a whirlwind romance, Gary Glitter is due to marry in Gretna Green tomorrow. When asked why his new in-laws weren't invited he claimed his bride to be hadn't spoke to her parents since a nightmare holiday in Portugal 2 years ago.
  2. Even though I am due to fly next week I am looking for Xmas flights, I am looking around 16th Dec to 3rd Jan as need to be back for work. At the moment prices usual stupid numbers but will they come down? I booked this flight about 6 weeks ago with netflights and got a good deal with Eva LHR to BKK £404. I normally book Xmas flight early July but supply and demand and all that crap is it worth waiting??
  3. Bill, Not really sure what the above has to do with cheap flights, have they made the seats priced by weight of passenger and so by shaving balls and cock we can save money by having less weight?
  4. I flew evergreen the 1st time I went to LOS in 05, I'm only 5'10" but was still a porker and went for the wide seats more than anything. At the time was worth the extra money also having the food on real plates and real knives and forks was better. Since then I have lost weight so peasent class is ok for me and normally fly from Manchester, however in June got Eva economy for £409 return so booked it. I made enquires to upgrade and they want extra £1000 plus, so economy looks good to me.
  5. Hi Tombon, I have stayed in the Mercure 6/7 times now. I really like the place especially the pool area I think looks great. Before you go send them an e-mail asking for a room at the rear of the hotel which overlooks the pool and gets the sun, the front overlooks the car park and road so bit noisier than rear. I also book high floor (only 6/7 floors) as at breakfast they use seating area between pool and hotel and may be busy but as I have high floor never noticed before. The downside is if walking back from WS side sometimes have a couple of minute wait for free tuc tuc from 2nd road to hotel, which is 24hrs and to me no biggie. However since the Avenue opened its less than a minute walk to Avenue from hotel and 1 more minute to 2nd road. As you come off 2nd road towards the tuc tuc pick up opposite on the other side of the road is an open air restaurant, very basic but always busy and not bad food good value for the baht. I saw the sign about joiner fee 3 visits ago but I always book a double and never been asked to pay, I thought maybe cos the reception staff remeber me and know they get no shit from me. Last 2 visits noticed more of our Ruskie friends staying there, before that used to be quite popular with the Japs but now going with the commies sometimes a bit loud but never had any problems. have a good one mate
  6. Just booked my rooms for June/July, many thanks to Nurture of Norway for the discount code, booked rooms with hotels.co.uk and happy with the prices. 1st two nights in Bkk at the Admiral Premier on Soi 23, never been here before but 4* hotel bed and breakfast £32.50 per night. 10 nights in Mercure in Patts, superior room only £18 per night Last 5 nights in Bkk and cos I saved so much splashed out on the Landmark, superior room only £52 per night.
  7. Looks a great hotel I always stay in the Mercure in Patts. I was going to stay this time but heard they had a joiner fee. I sent e-mail and they replied even though I was booking a double if I brought a girl back who wasn't booked in with me would be 1500bht. Not a prob for you as you with wifey. As JS said, 10 mins from Bangla, turn right out of hotel and keep walking and again as JS said watch for robbing bastard tuc tuc drivers. As you walk past Baumanburi (hotel next door) across road I think is Hard Rock hotel (but could be some other big name hotel I'm not sure) and turn left to walk to beach halfway down is Keith Floyds restaurant, I never went in as only had S/T girls and kept things simple but the prices for daytime eating seemed ok and looks a nice place.
  8. The e-mail I got from Thai visa forum said details would be announced tomorrow. So will look in about 10 days time. Will check again tomorrow see whats what.
  9. http://booking.qatarairways.com/qribe-web/public/showIBE.do Just got e-mail from Qatar, there is an 8hr stop on way back but works out at £308.90 inc taxes I checked my dates 24 June to 12 July and over £520 so my £409 booked with Eva still looking good. Just tried link opens but doesnt show prices, not a techie so just look on Qatar site
  10. I booked my flight on Sunday, LHR yo BKK 24th June to 12th July. I spoke to hoodaki, dial a flight, eva's own sight, wisemaster, checked travel supermarket, expedia and netflights.com I paid £409.50 inc taxes with Netflights.com (upgrade to evergreen is about £930 so decided to save the £500 to help buy buffalo medicene) They told me offer is on till 5th April.
  11. Hi Zampa, details please, I am looking to go June 24th to July 13th so a website would be great, cheers mate
  12. I always stay in the Mercure in Patts, I went to look at the Mercure in bkk and was a bit disappointed, its quite a way up Soi 22, pool is small and the area around pool also small.
  13. Looks good to me, I had my first Korean meal in Bkk at Xmas in 'Koreatown' on Shuk just below Soi Cowboy, its on even number Sois about Soi 16 ish near skytrain station (one above Nana) There is a small area with about 8 restaurants, the one we went to is the 1st one on the right side in the soi not the one on Suk. It was 7pm and the place was full (both upstairs and downstairs) and we had to wait 1/2 hr for a table, other places were open but my girl said this is the place and like with Thai places I work on the theory if its full of locals it should be ok, and this place was full of Koreans. My girl knows I do not mind how much food she orders as long as everything is eaten, the one thing I cant stand is people wasting food (something to do with my poor Yorkshire upbringing) A ordered 2 lots of meat along with other stuff and promised me no problem. As with the report didnt expect loads of side dishes but the food was superb, everything went and even ordered more meat, she ate as much as me which was a def first as she is only 43kg. We were there over an hour and the bill was 1500bht which to me was good VFM (and Im happy eating noodle and chicken off a street cart for 40bht) Next time in Patts I am changing my hotel from the Mercure to one on Soi 1 so I will be popping in.
  14. Hi Ian, I normally stay in deluxe room, these are the front of the 2 buildings, the rooms have been refurbished over the last 18 months, still similar to the superior but all the wood panelling been removed (at least rooms I stayed in) so much brighter feel than dark panelleing. If you stay in deluxe ask for a high floor overlooking soi 6, it is a bit busier than the rear building but the higher floor makes a difference, although view from room is not brilliant, ( appartments to the left and waste ground leading to Shuk on the right) you can leave the nets open all day without having someone from opposite block in hotel looking in, in saying that you cant then look into the room opposite to see whats going on over there. As you are paying over 2600 what difference will 2/300 bht make. Just realised when I checked the post, I am referring to the dynasty grande on soi 6 not the dynasty inn on soi 4, sorry about that, but will leave this on anyway.
  15. Got back home Saturday, checking flight prices already. Mercure was as good as ever, very quiet though, as mentioned before I have stayed there 5 times before and always book a double. I took 4 different girls back, they took id cards and rang me when the girls left to make sure all ok but no joiner fee mentioned or paid. I will be back
  16. I booked with Hoodaki last Friday, Etihad from Manchester this Friday18th, return Sat 3rd May £480. Fly out 10am, arrive 07.30, return 9am arrive 18.45 I found a site £2.50 cheaper, but used Hoodaki before and no prob so better the devil you know.
  17. I have used Mr Toom 5 times no problem, however, I booked a flight yesterday and coming back next Saturday 19th, sent Mr T e-mail got one back today saying no can do, it seems 18th 19th everyone driving from Bkk to Patts for the end of Songkran is crazy and none of his guys will drive. Anyone any suggestions, looked at the limo pattay, just got phone number no e-mail (that I can see) I tried to call but no joy, could be cos of 1st day of Songkran so will try Monday
  18. I stayed there in Dec 07, booked a double and no prob with taking girls back, no joiner fee mentioned or asked for, although I saw a small sign by the pool saying joiner fee 300bht. I have stayed here 5/6 times, before used to be loads of Japs staying, however last time noticed more Ruskies, no problems with anyone though. Just booked and back again on Saturday for 5 nights, will report if joiner fee.
  19. Pay the extra and go for the Dynasty Grand, I will be there for the 5th time in December, I have stayed in Majestic Grande, full of Arabs and pool is same size as my bath at home, Business Inn on Soi 11 not so bad, no pool and a bit noisy. Dynasty Grand has an excellent location, nice big pool, girl friendly, downside is breakfast not included in price, b/fast is nice as is cooked to order not buffet, however Nana hotel (3min walk) has big buffet and good price and open to anyone. Rooms have massive bed, DVD player and flat screen TV, big wet room with seperate bath but 2 showers. I stayed in Landmark on my first vist to LOS, and other than the mega location the Grand in my humble opinion is better and so much better V.F.M.
  20. I have stayed here 3 times before and booked again for December, as mentioned its a great location, nice and clean, only downside is pool only gets sun between 9.30 and 2pm, although long enough at 33 degrees, and local girls prefer it after 2 so they can swim in day and not go chocolate. I always ask for a high floor, although not much passing traffic like Landmark the higher the room the quieter it is.
  21. Just stayed at the Dynasty Inn Grande on Soi 6, excellent location (2 mins from Nana plaza and Nana skytrain stop) . Nice big room and bathroom, room light and clean, flat screen TV with DVD player, staff very nice and guest friendly, decent pool, around 2200 bht night room only. The food is ok, full breakfast 280bht which is available 24 hours Downside is the sun around the pool is there between 9.30 and 2.30, although 5 hours in the sun is enough for most farangs, the Thai girls seem to like it as after 2.30 they can swim and sit outside without becoming too 'chocolate' I have been to LOS 5 times and stayed in about 8 hotels, I will be back at the Grand in December when I go back.
  22. If you go to Big C, you should be able to buy a tin of paint and paint brush, find a wall, door or piece of wood, open the paint and stir with a clean stick or screwdriver (if one available). Use the brush to apply the paint to said wall/door and watch for the next 3/4 hours. This will prove much more entertaing and enjoyable than watching a bunch of overpaid wimps who would like to play rugby but are scared of getting hurt so wear loads of protection, the only protection a real man needs is a condom. Baz PS. I dont really like American football, the proper football is the one us Brits invented, we dont have to pinch the name of another sport because we cant think of a name for ours, (you could call it girly rugby) I know at the moment we may not be the worlds number 1 but wait till July when we win the world cup. Whilst still on my soapbox, we will play the best teams in the world during the world cup, why does baseball have a world series with teams from one country only. Im not anti US, Las Vegas is a great place, Spearmint Rhino in Vegas is a number one spot.
  23. Hi Woody, the video is a great idea, I stayed in the marriot in November and whilst the rooms there do look better for the £50 difference per night ($90) and staying for 5 nights, the Areca looks perfect, we didnt get to see the bathroom, what is that like? is there room in the shower for 2? also just been reading a thread about the roosters making a row a 4am, as I dont plan on sleeping till 3am is the new wing far enough away from the noisy bastards Bigbadbaz
  24. Hi Sailfast, I bought a Nikon 7900 (7.1 mega pixel) for my visit in November, may be more than you want to spend but I live in rip off Britain and I know the US is cheaper. I paid around £235 online but upgraded to a 1GB memory card which can hold 500 pics. Make sure you get it at least few days before you go, I got mine the day before and didnt have time to practice with it, 90% of photos were very good, some of the close up stuff not so good but I have mastered that now, video was pretty good as well and the camera is very compact fits in the pocket nice and easy. Have a good one Baz
