  1. I'll give you a shout when it's done. Sad really, I'm starting with a frame , matching engine and number and some bits. I'm torn between restoring a piece of History and 2 years of hardship, heartache (I get attached to my resto projects and shitty when it doesn't go right) and expense versus one more trip to patts a year... Norton it is then. Irony being it's worth more in parts than a whole, but I'm not as mercenary, prefer to see a bike on the road than another victim of part donorship. It'll have to be a full restoration, nut and bolt cradle to grave, but bikes are easier than cars. Th
  2. Thanks for an honest report Gabor, and taking the time and effort to share it. I've found the problem with buffets is that not as much care is taken to the cooking as it would be a single dish, but by my own admission I know little about how to run a restaurant.
  3. ...What are your plans?. Despite having a chunk of time off in April, I've decided not to visit because Songkran and the crowds grate on my tits. Instead I'll be at home in blighty putting the finishing touches to my classic car and starting my next project which will be an inevitable money pit, a 1974 Norton Commando 850 (50 Ci for you yanks). Questions I'd ask so I don't feel too bad when spending money and getting covered in oil and shit are; Is town busy at the moment? Are the numbers of Russians / Indians / Chinese (delete as applicable) on the increase? How does this
  4. Hi Mat, Welcome to the forum. Depends entirely upon your skill set I would imagine, but there are some really helpful and experienced guys here on this forum who are in the position of working there and could probably advise you. I know of only one farang actively employed by a Thai company who has the benefits and salary proportionally equivalent to that which he would get in the UK, he works in Heavy industry in Laem Chabeng and is very specialised, the company do everything for him re Visas and permits. I don't think getting a WP is easy and there is a certain amount of jumping thr
  5. Hi Evil I think, or understand that the Sportsman has something to do with "Robins Nest" on Soi Diana as well perhaps?. Thanks for an impartial and detailed review, Evil, as you say, the Sportsman has been a stalwart of Pattaya for the last 20 years and it has had (and still does have) a good reputation for providing decent food as well as being the "go to" business for outside catering for some of the GoGo bars / Beer bar parties. I will agree the dish looked unattractive, the beans seemed to "flood" the plate and perhaps overwhelm the other items there. My personal experiences there
  6. Hi Fellas I took Mrs Butch and Jr to the Marriott Rayong in October for a few days mid week. I wanted to show her how much better the hotels are in LOS than they are in the RP and also she wanted to see a bit of Thailand which she hasn't before. Now, as my memory is shit I'm not 100% sure what the going rate was, however, I know that it averaged out at approx £80 GBP per night for the room which was a Sea View Deluxe. Before I post a load of pics, I do suggest that anyone thinking of staying here should join the Marriott Rewards as it gives you free in room wifi for the duration of sta
  7. Hi, I wandered lonely as a cloud married former sex tourist whose wife was with him.... Apologies if I've got the location wrong on some of these, my knowledge and geographical accuracy on the names of the side sois is shit. Anyone feel free to correct me where I might have gone wrong, it'll be appreciated. Wandered around, checking out everday activity in the Sois of Pattaay, mostly randoms but it was errie and quiet for some reason. Sois 7/8 and the cut through. Soi 8 from the bottom, flipper on the righ hand side. same same but different. Cut through the
  8. Good value for the Draft Tiger, even better value for the Vodka shot. Girls look good too. Where are you on LKM? Opening hours , happy hours etc?. Any events coming up or maybe a link to your website?.
  9. Hey! Whaddya mean "optional"? bollocks, I'll never dirink one of your free, gratis , ice cold , delicious Hoegaardens again....perhaps. Anyway, chaps, Samran has a youtube channel in case you weren't aware, showing everything from the cooking to the bands, worth subscribing to for the latest news etc. There's even Cerberus there with his pinny on* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PPAVWJVufc *this is total bollocks, he doesn't wear an apron unless he's hosting his pottery class which is every 29th of November .
  10. Cheers Firth, not a patch on yours though!. I had that feeling you get when you search for ages through flash dives and cards etc for pics which you're sure you took but can't find, then a few months later they turn up on the one that's been sat in the pocket of my backpack right down next to the seam!.
  11. Hi Been a while but I found my flash drive from our trip in October. I went walkabout one day just to capture some of the ongoing construction around town, also a few vacant areas which have yet to be filled by yet another hotel or condo. Just down from the old Welkom Inn, these bars atill manage to survive Site of the old Welkom Inn or Belgian Embassy as it was known, now completely levelled. Demolition started in May and can be seen in my old report. Contruction going on opposite where the Welkom Inn was. bloody massive . View down a Soi Big chun
  12. My main memory of Songkran in Pattaya is a bad ear infection, getting back to the hotel stinking of dirty water and generally getting pissed off. My hint for anyone going : Ziplock bags. More ziplock bags and some Ziplock bags, deodorant as well as some vaseline and cotton wool to put in your ear to stop the dirty water getting into it as you walk down Soi 8 and someone chucks a bucket of what is effectively filtered sewage at you. Like masturbating with a cheese grater, sometimes interesting but mostly painful.
  13. Great pics Evil and a great review. Shame Samran doesn't do a take away service for delivery to the UK. I miss those chicken wings man... Cerberus, the change of decor is looking good, Mrs Butch sends her regards and still misses her new friend Jack.
  14. Good stuff evil, and along with Firth and Patna to name but a couple, your pictorial posts are entertaining and enjoyable. I think we should have a roster where someone reds you then greens you between 4999 and 5000 though.
  15. Correct LBJ! Jacko, you're thinking of "Nice with Ice" above the Post Office on Soi PO. A really upmarket and luxoriously decked out BJ bar with stunning , beautiful female specimens of the highest moral standards. Ok, Any ideas where "Black Cat A GoGo" was (still operating as recently as 2004)
  16. Yeah but he'll get you the 40's , I'm talking 80's here lol. Well you know that you can drop me a line if ever you run out.
  17. A box of Tetleys / PG tips if you can tell me where "Caligulas" and "fire and Ice" were.
  18. I often get some odd looks when wearing this while picking butch Jr up from School... Obviously I don't give it to Mrs butch to iron...
  19. If you need them that bad drop me your address and i'll post them out. there's another BM here whom I often keep supplied with Earl Grey on a semi regular basis. It'll cost you a couple of SM lights though. Gus, you're spot on, Also with lowering fuel prices and an increase in demand (the previous problems of Thailand are beginning to fade according to my TA) LOS is once again becoming a popular destination with brits.
  20. My one and only experience with Malaysian was pretty horrific, I almost croaked it on the flight and my claim to posthumous fame might have been I was the first person to snuff it on their brand new A380, as it had only been flying a week. However, as you can probably surmise, I survived the flight and vowed never to fly on them again, so the only 2 airlines on my "don't fly unless escaping a war zone" list are South African and Malaysian. I've been reading some speculative reports that they're in trouble, but are they not govt owned anyway?.
  21. This is a really good venue. We spent a few evenings there during our recent trip, the music is good, food is excellent and very cheap and it's a nice place to take the Mrs / gf / bar fine for an evening away from WS. It starts to get busy around 10:30 onwards, and really kicks from midnight. Staff are super attentive and Cerberus a friendly host, loads of parking available, and if you want to sit away from the band the seating towards the rear of the club is ideal. It's located on 3rd road, I'll get a more accurate location and post it here. Well worth a visit guys, & the chicken wing
  22. Good spot Firth, might be worth checking out Pprune for more info. It mentioned Cabin baggage but not hold baggage ( or I'm a bit thick and missed it :) ). I'd be interested to see their routing, I think the headwinds line is BS, multiple carriers fly on routes via Egyptian Airspace and have not mentioned this. Where are the flights from?, the ones Ex KL don't route over Egyptian airspace at all. there is a lot of speculation that the problems they had last couple of years were more than just unlucky coincidence, and it's understandable that they're shitting themselves. Interestin
  23. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Thai_Airways/Thai_Airways_Boeing_777-300_77R.phpmight give you the answer. On the EVA's they're located on the aisle seats of the 3/3/3 configuration I think, with 2 on the right hand side as you look from the tail to the nose (one in the right hand aisle of the middle seats, and on the aisle seat of the right hand set of window seats) but it does vary from plane to plane possibly, but I've never had on on the window seat of a 3/3/3 configuration in years of flying. Sounds more confusing than it actually is.
