Emirates Airlines A380 First Class - Bangkok to Hong Kong
glynbuk replied to bigdelta's topic in Airline Discussion
good one, I flew on the A380 in first class in 2009 from Dubai to Bangkok in seat 2A and they announced that the plane we were on had only been in the Emirates fleet for 4 days. I flew back from Bangkok to Dubai on another A380 in seat 3a and it was too bloody hot on board, so the shower was a needed item, I am flying with Emirates again this Xmas and am booked in Business class for the flight from London to Bangkok and return and have 3 legs on the A380, one going out and two legs on the return. will make sure i buy a fan or two to keep cool. -
superb pics, thanks for posting them

I stayed there at Xmas/new year and the bed was hard as were the pillows, i asked them to change the pillows for softer and they did it immediately, i also asked for an extra blanket and put that under the sheets as a sort of cushion which made it much better. PS, i have just booked the RG for this Xmas/New Year, i sent them a request through flb's email link on the 10th March, no reply as of yesterday so i sent them an email yesterday and got an immediate reply from Da, and this was included No deposit required last time so people must be letting them down I sent my credit card details by fax as they sent me a Word document to type the details into and sent part of the info by email, to which i got this reply from Da I assume they will charge the card if i don't turn up or don't cancel

Yes, i had heard that, but, Thai have a choice, get newer, better planes or upgrade the seats/audio - visual kit on their current planes in business/first class. Yesterday i booked my flight to Thailand for this coming Xmas/new year, Westeasttravel who i booked with last Xmas want £2632 for a business return ticket and £4700 (ish) for a first class return, now this is still 9 months before the flight so god knows what it will go up to by the time we get nearer the flight date. Ok, they have taken the 747-400's off the route and replaced them with A340's from London to Bkk but it looks to me the same seats and seat pitch as before, angled lie flat seats which are bloody rock hard and hellish to try to sleep on, food is not good and drinks are not much better, This year's booking i again looked at Emirates/Etihad and also Qatar who i hear good things about, finally my decision was to go with Emirates again and the reason was that i get great flight times and also that i get 3 legs of the journey on the A380 with flat bed seats and the superb entertainment system and the only downside was that i have to go via Dubai with the 2 1/2 hour plane change. From earlier reports, the first Thai A380 was going onto the London route by the end of this year and i would have paid Thai's price for that with the direct plane but it seems they changed their mind and put the first A380 on the Frankfurt route, so they lost my business for this year.

First time i flew Thai (back in 2005) business class, i said after it that i would never fly thai again, nothing has changed except the seat pitch was 50 inches and is now 60inches and its a slightly better "lie flat" and in first its a "fully flat bed" at about 78 inch pitch, both of them are rock hard/seats/beds but i did sleep ok on the way back in first. Compare this to my first class trip on Emirates in 2008/2009 flying partly on the A380 with 23 inch tv's in a suite with shower rooms etc on board, now that was luxury, beautiful leather seats/beds that you just fell asleep on. as for smoking rooms, i didn't look although there were a couple of glass fronted rooms with one person in each which could have been smoking i guess.

Assuming your on Thai, there is nothing worth nicking. I flew out on Business class on Thai at Xmas and the only thing worth nicking was the "economist" magazine from the Business class lounge at Heathrow. On my return i had booked "First class" on Jan 2nd, check in was great and they gave me a free glass of iced water while they did my baggage, opened up a locked toilet so i could pee and then locked it again and walked me through security whilst holding back the business class queue, then a motorised trolley took me to the first class lounge where they cooked me breakfast/pot of tea and a few bacardi and cokes. They then walked me to the plane (747) and handed me over to the crew, glass of champagne and stuff and only 6 in first of the 10 seats available, i had pre booked my meal and ordered the Lobster thermidor which wasn't bad but a tiny lobster, the other meal was better a piece of beef but the other bits were mostly all sent back as i didn't fancy any of it. (too fancy) Had bacardi and diet coke on board and after the first drink they ran out of diet coke, blaming the floods in Bangkok(normally when i fly business on thai i nick 3 or 4 cans of diet coke for the flight home but in first i didn't see any to nick). Even the toilets in first didn't have any eau de toilette or anything. Ok, now they are running the A340-600 for a few months so it could be a little different but i wouldn't bank on it.

It looks as if Frankfurt will get the first A380 on Thai this year and i am waiting to see what they use on LHR to BKK this xmas if the 747's are going on the australian route. I have flown the A380 in first class suites on Emirates in 2009 and it was wonderful but too bloody hot on board for me(there were plenty of showers on board and in the first class lounges everywhere Looking on Emirates.com you can get 4 legs on the A380 from LHR by doing the 13.35 flight out of Heathrow via Dubai and landing in Bangkok at 12.05 next day and returning on the 01.05am flight and landing heathrow at 11.35am same day. I will do that this Xmas if Thai don't buck their ideas up,

Hi Junkbot, I have just come back from Pattaya, I took £200 cash and changed some at the airport after getting off the plane, no problem. I took American express £200 pound sterling travellers cheques, these are best for us but some banks charge a fee to get sterling cheques because they make no commission on changing your money into Dollars/Euros, I used LLoyds bank(who i bank with) for those and brought through the travel hotline and pick up from my branch which gives no surcharge for sterling cheques.http://www.lloydstsb.com/travel_main_page.asp I also took my halifax clarity card and my new Sainsbury's gold credit cardhttp://www.sainsburysbank.co.uk/credit_cards/cca_gold_card_home_tab.shtml?source=NETNAVICARDCLDATA0006 which gives a bloody good rate, interest free until payment date even on cash withdrawals overseas and i pay the £5 per month for worldwide travel insurance which comes with it. Not sure i would trust a room safe or a reception safe with £1000, youtube has videos of how to open room safes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WzPKedl95U Enjoy your trip, i had an amazingly great time (again)
