Shopping for knock off purses in Thailand

Recommended Posts

Looking to pick up a few purses for my sisters while in Bkk next trip. Any help in finding knock off bags will help also bringing them back (just a few). If you know the price of cigarettes and the amount of them you can bring back without getting into trouble that would be great too! Ramster

I had to pick up a knock off purse when I was in Pattaya. Looked all over for the brand (I think it was Yves St Laurent or some famous brand that they all want in the US.) Anyway I could not find them anywhere. I went into a shop on Beach Rd and the girl asked what I was looking for. I told her and she took me to the back where they have them stashed and hidden. Seems the law does not allow them to legally sell them there. So if you cannot find what you are looking for ask in one of the the stores and they may have it. As far as bringing knockoffs back to the US I was told by a customs agent when I came through that you are only allowed one knock off item. (one purse, one watch etc.) I had three coach purses at the time but he let me go with them. Go to the US Customs website and it explains what amounts you can bring in. It also depends on whether the agent lets you bring in extras or not. Also the last time I came back in July my bags were not checked at all so I could have brought back a dozen. But then if they are not listed on your declaration and you get caught you could be fined. Hope this helps a little.

I was asked to get a DG handbag, couldn't find one anywhere. Eventually my GF asked about them and was told that th factory making them was closed down by the police and arrests were made. Perhaps they do have some hidden away. :o

ramster,

I think you can find the 'knock off' purses anywhere in Thailand. Just walk down Sukhumvit in Bangkok and about every other street stall has them. Even cheaper at MBK, and give the weekend market a try. In Pattaya you see them all the the place. I would try the 'Made in Thailand' market on 2nd Rd and about Soi 9 or 10.

kikc69 is correct about bringing them back into the US. I have had a few knock off items and have been told on more than one occiasion that maybe you can get by with one. The US will not let you bring back any item that is counterfeit. Also any item that is copywrited or has a patent and is a copy or knock off isn't allowed back in the US.

You are allowed to bring back one carton of cigarettes to the US tax free. I would suggest you check with customes on what the tax is over the one carton and how many total you can bring back.

If I'm correct I think Ramster means COPIES of the ORIGINALS!

I have seen Knock off purses all over Pattaya and Bangkok, but not COPIES!

From what I have read of other boards, the shops/stalls have them, but you need to ask them, they have them hidden out of view, because of policing regulations i think!

  • 3 years later...

i was wondering if there has been any updated information re: bringing back "knock-off" purses. do the limits still apply and how thoroughly is US customs checking these days?

yeah, i know any answer is subject to the whim of the agent, but i'd like to get a general idea.

Any mall, 1,000 to 4,000 baht. If you need a specific brand/model copy, allow two-three days (more if possible) for the seller to come up with it for you.

Howabout avoid the hassle at the airport by posting it......

Not necessarily a good idea as Customes may open the parcel when it reaches your home country and confiscate it if they think it's a fake.

I've never had a problem with bringing in the odd fake watch for friends (say 3 or 4 at the most).

Back in October '07.

I was at Mike's Shopping Plaza, the big one between 2nd and Beach Rd., watched as a couple of the boys in brown supervise the removal of a pick-up truck load of counterfeit purses and handbags.
