Residence Garden - how long is the walk?

Recommended Posts

All -

My first trip to Thailand and Pattaya...

I had reserved a room at the Dynasty Inn on soi 13. They wanted a credit card#, but I am cautious and declined.

I went over my other options and have settled on Residence Garden. FLB rate of 1350bht sounds good...

However, there are so many conflicting reports of the RG's distance from the "action"! Although I don't like humidity (who does?) I am young and very fit and would have no problems making the trek by foot IF it is reasonable (15 minutes or so)...

Alternatively, I could take the baht bus (are they all really just pickup trucks with plastic covers on the backs?) BUT as I plan to party well into the evening (certainly past 2:00 AM most nights) will baht buses even be available to get back to RG?

Do TGs like the RG? Just curious...

So, a bit of a quandary for me. I'm happy to stay at a place close to the action but it seems that none of the hotels there are up to my standards (even Dynasty Inn barely made my list)... and I refuse to pay 3000bht / night for the Marriott. So, unless someone can suggest something right around soi 7/8 I'll go with RG.

Thanks in advance for any / all replies, and I got a wealth of information from the board already...

I have stayed at the Residence Garden on numerous occasions and I do not believe it is that far....Yes, you can walk to Walking Street in about 10 minutes, however, the Baht bus runs this route very often..even late at nite. I have heard several comments about how baht buses do not go to Jomitien Beach late at nite, but I have never had any problems with Baht buses running to Residence Garden. Residence Garden is actually between Jomitien Beach and South Pattaya.

Yes...the suites are nice at RG and the TGs appear to like it. No hassles and VERY guest friendly! They do not take IDs and there is no "walk of shame" because your TG does not even have to walk past the hotel reception. Very nice...because I tend to bring back ladies througout the day...I NEVER sleep in LOS. I am also a young guy and have even brought TGs back to room for parties till late in the night...with no problems or hassles.

I will be at RG with my brother between Nov 3 and Nov 14...when are you going?

Thanks for the informative response...

I will be there starting October 22 to train muay thai for two weeks, and will be staying at the camp itself... no partying from 10/22 through 11/3...

However, starting November 4 I have two weeks free to party... 11/4 - 11/16. this is also when I'll be staying at RG.

Again, thanks for the tips... maybe we'll run into each other.

Baht buses (yes, pick up trucks http://www.bahtbus.com/photogallery/displa...album=1&pos=34) run from the RG all night. You shouldn't have to wait more than a minute or so.

Coming back late on, you can walk up to 2nd road and get on one heading to Jomtien (Bt10) or just charter an empty one for Bt40-80, depending upon your negotiating skills. They will start asking you for Bt100 and they cannot even read the map on the back of the RG card. you have to tell them its a little way up on the road to Jomtien, just after the flyover.

You pretty much fall out of bed from the Residence gardens onto a side enterence to Walking Street near the Super Ago-Ago but yo have the advantage of a great view and a quiet setting at the RG. I'd saw it's well under a mile and you don't walk thru anything scarry to get there.

Baht buses are going too and from there constantly but most times from Walking street I just walked it.

I'll be there again unless I can get an incredible deal at the Marriott.

If I hop on a baht bus on 2nd road heading south, what's my odds of ending up at residence garden? Don't recall seeing any Jomtien signs on those buses. SB

You actually get on the baht bus on Pratamnak Road, which is is reality an extension of 2nd Road. Virtually every baht bus on that road will take you past the RG. I've only ever been on one bus that didn't - it took the road that I think goes up towards the Big Budha. It is, however, a short walk from the underpass to the RG so not a problem.

Saigon Butterfly,

Pratamnak Road turns into Second Road at South Pattaya Road, most people don't even realize the road changes but after the South Pattaya road intersection, second road is then a 1 way road. You will see about 5 bahtbuses lines up near South Pattaya road (next to the school on Pratamnuk Road) trying to get passengers, do not take one of those buses, they do not leave until the bahtbus is full. Your best bet is to walk a little south and there will be bahtbuses heading south to Jomtien (unless they are chartered already).

MCC,

RG is a great hotel and a great value, i've stayed there three times and anyone who has stayed there before will tell you the same thing. There are always bahtbuses and it is about a 10 minute walk to Walking Street, take Pratamnak Road to Soi 16 or Soi marine plaza to get to walking street (marine plaza is more convenient).

To get back to RG, get on a bahtbus that is going to Jomtien, it'll head up Thrappaya Road, under the overpass and RG is up the hill a bit on the left.

There is a decent internet cafe next to RG which is connected to Mr Mac's hotel, there is a great laundry in a plaza across the street from the internet cafe and there is a great restaurant at the other end of the plaza (next to mini golf).

Good luck to you and have a ball.

cheers

i'll give you an exact answer in case anyones still interested. started my stopwatch when i closed my RG room door (room 501, i think), stopped it when i got to 7/11 on walking street. Time less than 12 mins. Didn't speed walk, didn't mosey.

  • 6 years later...

I stayed there last month and can't recommend it highly enough.

Good rooms, nice location, nice food by the pool, great staff. Absolutely no problem with guests or joiner fees - in fact the night security guard told the BG I brought back on the first night to take good care of me! And the fact that it's a few minutes from being bang in the centre makes it a bit quieter in the daytime, which is good when you just want to sit on your balcony or by the pool. And like the guys say, there are baht buses going past all the time so it takes no time to get into town.

Have a great trip and enjoy.

If you want to book the dynasty inn without credit card then scandibar.com will do it for you and give you a free beer per day.

http://www.scandibar.com/hotel/dyn-pty/

I used scandibar for my booking in the sandy spring hotel soi 13 for the last two Xmas's and it works fine.

This Xmas i too have booked the Residence Garden as the price is superb at the FLB rate of 1450baht and 1800 baht for the main Xmas peak times.

With the daily money i save from the rate i paid previously to the Sandy Spring then all my extra baht bus cost are well covered and more, plus

it will give me an incentive to do Jomtien for the first time.

Baht buses don't have signs on them showing where they are going as far as i know.

If you click this link and look you will see your on the junction second road/pattaya tai and your facing the road leading towards jomtien.

http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?BPuRUYxokcDE

If you look down the road facing you, about 100metres down on the left you will see parked baht buses, don't touch them as has been said, they wait till their full to move.

If you click on the blue dots on the top picture you will move along the road towards jomtien and the picture will change (the bottom picture is a road map of the area

and you can watch the little man on the bottom map move along the road to give you some idea of where your going)

Once you get to this point http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?J8sRUCmnkc4C you will see two sets of blue bubbles, click the one going left and follow that along

after going under the bridge http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?WssRUEvnkcvC and straight across you can now see the Residence garden hotel, keep following the blue dots

and you will very shortly come to the hotel which is here http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?5PsRUeqnkctC

I have never stayed (yet) at this hotel, never been out this side of pattaya or been to Jomtien, so all i know is what i have seen on Pattayaphotoguide, plus i am told the

pictures of the road outside the hotel is an old one and the road works have long finished etc.

Enjoy yourself and let us see some pics if you can because on December 16th i am there :D

Edit and added,

This will show you a baht bus and some information

RG is a good choice, suites with a separate bedroom. Good for first timers as you'll meet board members by the pool that will show you around. Baht buses easy ride to Walking street and further. Late at night i just pay the 100baht for a BB or Motorcy for a quick ride back, though you can negotiate for less.

Other areas to look at when your there are Soi Diana. The Areca lodge, is a good choice. Lk Rennaisance suites are great but approach Marriot prices if they are not discounting. Walking Street hotels can be good if you wrap up your night at daybreak but no pool.

Don't worry , you will figure it out very quickly once your there.

Agree with all the positive comments about RG. I stayed there this summer for a few days. Don't really know Pattaya well but I had no problem finding my way around from there. It was a good clean hotel with big rooms, good wi-fi at a good price.

Have fun!

Just wanted to add. If the baht bus honks (a little toot-toot) at you or slows down as you give a little wave it's taking fares. If it blows by you, it's not personal, it's hired "private" in most likelihood.

Some people get frustrated until they understand the system. Yes, you're expected to be a little psychic, since the baht buses all appear to be identical.

Also be careful if you try to get on a private hire baht bus when it slows down, they'll often gun it a little to make sure you don't get on.

I haven't had problems for years since I figured it out, but I remember having problems my first time around.

Have a good trip! :)
