Anyone know what is the maximum amount you can draw from an ATM in Thailand in one day.

Depends on your card limit. Over the counter I have done a max of 100,000 Baht in one go.

Some ATMs are Bt20,000 or 20 notes. bangkok bank's are 25 notes so Bt25,000. The maximum amount you can withdraw will depend upon your bank. HSBC allows me GBP 5000 per day from the machine anywhere in the world. So theoretically, I could get out Bt365,000 or stupidly VND 138,750,000 !

 

My Bangkok Bank card allows Bt500,000 per day.

New rules just passed by the thai banks. You can use your card up to a maximun of 10 times in any one day so in theory you can draw 200,000/250,000 depending on who you bank with

So, if your TG gets to know your PIN and you fall out, you could lose all that before you wake up and notice that your card is gone.

If your ATM card has a Visa Logo you can go inside the bank or go to an Exchange booth and get a cash advance. That will usually get you more cash than just an ATM withdrawl and with a cash advance, there isn't an ATM fee that your bank will charge you.

 

If you take a Cash Advance, you will need to bring your passport with you.

a cash advance is a loan which you are carged a fee for withdrawl and the some insane interst rate from the time you take out the cash advance till the time toy pay off you credit card debit off completly!!

tes there is a transaction fee at most ATM's in the US but not at all outside the US. some do some don't and some just give you a lower exchange rate but it is my understanding in thailand that as long as your at one of the thai national baks there is no withdrawl chage unless it is stated when you make the withdrawl and you are getting the best exchange rate of the past 24hr period.

 

as far as the origianl thread

there are two factors for every atm withdraw

1) the maximum amount allow by the machine and number of times per day and

2) the maximum amount alowed per day by your account which you can adjust as needed by having the bank raise or lower your limit.

when i'm vacationing i go in and have it adjusted to $500usd

when i'm at home i have it lowered to $100usd per day in case i lose it .

I forgot to mention, I do not own a credit card. I have an ATM card with a Visa logo. My maximum daily withdrawl with my ATM is $300 (12,000 baht), i keep it low for a reason. But I can do a cash advance of up to $1000 (40,000 baht) with my ATM card because there is a Visa logo. I've done it twice in LOS, I did it about 4 1/2 weeks ago when i paid TA and i was never charged a fee.

 

I don't get charged a big fee because it was my own money and not credit. If you do a cash advance with a credit card, the credit card company will charge you up the ass.

 

If you choose to do a Cash Advance inside the bank or at an Exchange booth, you have to bring your passport.

How do you pick between a credit card cash advance with fee and a debit cash advance with no fee? I recognize you may not know as sounds like you have only one account (debit) tied to your card. I have both capabilities on my ATM card. For no fees and convenience of a $1,000, it would be worth the 10 minutes to run into a bank.

Debit card transactions come out of your current (checking) account. Credit card transactions are set against your credit limit. The two are not linked.

 

What I don't see is where the Thai bank or exchange counter makes its money by advancing funds on a debit card without a fee ? Perhaps in the exchange rate ?

I just looked at my account again and I don't see any fee for taking a cash advance. I'm either missing something here or the bank likes me. I just assumed a cash advance is considered a purchase. But what I don't know could fill a dictionary.

 

But I didn't take the cash advance just to save a small fee, i took the cash advance so i could get more baht to pay off TA. I can only take about 12,000 baht at a time from an ATM so a Cash Advance is more convenient.

Different machines have different individual transaction limits. I have a card with $1000 us daily limit. I have found that some ATMs limited me to 10,000 baht withdrawal others 20,000 baht. Of course I could then process another transaction until I reached my daily limit. But each transaction has a fixed service charge.

Not a expert on money matters but can recall when using a ATM machine I saw a line at the end that said (Other ) I didn`t use this option but presumed it meant that I could enter a amount of my choice.

Has anyone else seen this option.

Fonz, I did, but the machine told me in elaborate Thai that it won't give me more than 20 000 Bt, for reasons set up by the Thai Board Of ATM Manufacturers, PLC, Inc; or so.

Had no problems of repeating the 20000 Bt performance, though.
