Why do you stay where you stay?

Recommended Posts

I thought about making a poll out of this, but I think there are just too many variables.

Unless you own a place in Pattaya, or have friends or family to stay with, you most likely will stay in a hotel or guesthouse.

Why do you stay where you stay? Is it the location, the price, or are the maids willing and able?

Whatever the reason, name the place and why it gets your money.

As stated in another post, the hotel reviews are sparse and mostly out of date, so this may help those looking for their first time or just a better option.

My current hotel of choice is the Dynasty Inn on Soi 13. I like the location (I can walk to most of the places I like to visit) and it's good quality for the price. However the main reason I stay there is because it's the first hotel I've found in Pattaya where the matress isn't a slab of stone. My aching back thanks me.

Unless the construction noise is unbearable, I'll stay there again next month.

LBJ,

I normally stay at the Sabai Inn but most of the reasons could be applied to the majority of the hotels at the 2nd Road end of Sois 1/2/3/4.

1. Location. Access to everything is on your doorstep. The soapies, Welkom Inn ST Bar, Big C and Central Festival Centre, 7-11s and Family Mart, cinemas, beer bars all the way from Soi 0 to Soi 4 etc are all on your doorstep.

2. Access to other areas. Taxis, quite literally, stop at the front doorstep to take you down south to Sois 6/7/8, Pattayaland and Walking Street. Getting back is just as easy.

3. Access to PIH for dental work and any mishaps that may occur during my trips.

4. The rooms are among the biggest to be found in the price range.

5. The rooms and public areas are spotless.

6. The staff are among the best to be found in similar standard hotels.

7. Facilities. Pool and snooker tables as well as a couple of wide-screen TVs.

8. The beds are enormous compared to similar hotels - big enough for 1+3 in comfort.

9. The shower cubicles can take 1+2 with room to spare.

10. As a bonus I get an invite to the SabaiDee staff parties at Kumm Pun. :chogdee

Other than that, it is pretty crap! :eyecrazy

It's been the Residence Garden for me the past few years. Reasons:

1) Great value for the price. I stay twice a year, each trip from 40 to 60 days. For stays of 30+ days, the rate is 1000 baht per day.

2) A suite makes a long stay much nicer...TG can sleep in and I can be in other room listening to music, watching T.V., etc. Don't get a cooped-up feeling that I sometimes feel in a single room.

3) Can reheat food (or even do some easy cooking) with the 2-burner stove top they have.

4) Friendly staff...after so many times there, I know many of the workers and like them.

5) Being just a little outside of ground zero is not a problem, with baht buses going by all the time and moto drivers parked outside. But now I rent a moto, and that is also convenient because the rental place is directly across the street from the R.G.

6) Zero hassle with bringing guests to the room.

7) In-room electronic safe.

8) Two pools.

8) Used to just have one T.V., now there's two.

I like the Sabai Lodge, (across from the Sabai Inn, and apparently with common ownership) because:

1. Location, close to soapies, big C, Beer bars, etc. Easy Baht Bus access to Walking St.

2. Great Swimming pools. 3 of them. (I really like to cool off, esp in the morning, and get some exercise along with it. Helps reduce the caloric effects of the Singha, Heineken, Tiger, Etc.)

3. I like to get a room which opens directly onto the pool, which is slightly pricier but very worth it. (It's still cheap by US standards.)

4. Nice rooms good size, comfortable beds.

5. Staff is very professional and friendly.

6.TG friendly. :D

A couple of minor quibbles: the poolside rooms have only showers(Lots of room, however), no tubs, and I wish there was more shelf space in the bathroom for shaving kit, etc.

A couple of other places I've stayed. (both are perfectly decent)

Lek Hotel: Location mid-way on 2nd road, good 95B Breakfast.

Eden: Great rooms, nice pool, but problematic location (way out of the action, and off Baht Bus Routes)

Hope this is helpful

I'm another RG regular. Unless something goes disasterously wrong on a future stay I don't think I'll even try anyplace else. Very friendly and well-trained staff. The food is good and the coffee is great. The location is slightly out of the way but I like it like that: no street noise to bother me at night. It's also an excellent value when you book on-line through here or the FLB Bar site. TG's really like it, and my regular TG has told me how much she likes it; we've actually gotten away from having dinner at any of her favorite haunts on Walking Street in favor of room service at the RG.

I have stayed residence garden many times. I would continue but the beds are too hard for me. I am a side sleeper and my shoulders are always sore in the morning. They have good parking if you are driving. Other than that RG is my favorite place, great combination for the money.

If money is not a problem then Marriott is very good. Breakfast is the best I have ever had. Anywhere period. With a garden view room on the 1st floor I was 50 feet from the royal garden center. but the gym is pretty lame for a top hotel.

If a great pool is required the hard rock hotel hotel has a fantastic pool. And a decent gym. And good parking. Rooms are okay and price is high, 3000 baht +.

For the best gym the Montien has a great gym. But they are not BG friendly so unless you have a steady...

And Sandy springs is great. Nice rooms nice beds nice facility and only 1300 baht. My girl thinks sandy springs is twice the hotel of dynasty.

Sabaii Inn has a good location unless you want to spend a lot of time on walking street. :banghead 2guns

I've stayed at the following hotels and they are all good value for the money.

Sky-Top cheapest of the lot but good rooms for the money.

Flipper Lodge & House good pool, in room massage.

Pig & Whistle good food and bar. I like the rooms.

Eastiny good pool, big rooms.

Marriott expensive for Pattaya but excellent resort.

Pattaya Park Hotel best place to take my family. Full service resort and water park away from the nite life. This hotel is in Jomtiem.

I have stayed at Hard Rock and Siam Bayview.

Hard Rock had the best service of any place I have ever stayed....Ever.

Rooms were a bit smaller than I had hoped however.

Siam Bayview Had the best rooms and very nice friendly staff, they were even friendly to my BG all the time they were adding 600 baht joiner fee to my room total each night. NEXT!

I am planning on staying this March at the Lido Beach Hotel right behind Starbucks. Hoping this finally has the location I have been looking for, and still have some good rooms. Anyone been there?

thanks,

WB

Why don't you just ask them to turn the mattress? Now, I do not know if this is possible at Residence Garden, but most Thai mattresses have a soft and a hard side.... Thais like the hard side as many are used to sleep directly on the floor back in their village.

I've stayed at the RG on my last 3 trips. Away from the main action but close enough to get there easily at night, friendly staff, seperate bedroom, two pools though the one at the back does tend to be used a fair bit by Mermaid Dive for their training.

Some handy info guys

Just one question how about people if possible posting a web link if they have one with thtere motel.

Made me laugh one comment Bic C close to walking street hate to farkin walk it lol.

Great idea of a post hope continues.

Well here is my experiences.

Montien nice motel but guest friendly not, works out allot of cahs bringing a tg back evry nigth staye there twice well second time one day but the phoens ring every night prank calls and some cunt knocking on ay door as well.

So never would stay there again great pool can walk off the street and use allot of talent by it.

Also stayed Penthosue hotel well what cna i say location locaton unbelaible worht staying there for that and the service absoutly friendly and awesome and also hearng Dudley stories and the the strpym fo corruption of going with owening a Gogo bar, very intersting i stay less hen 50 $ aus dollars a night and that mean lower floors 3 and below to noisy form gogo bar people coming home acting a goat. I stay For a month mostly and i would recommend somewhere quieter, but styaed there manyt imes due to location. That is the best location.

But after heairng other stories and what u cna get for the price well i wana do that next time.

Many similar small motels like that in that area.

Talking to others most people tend to stay at soi 13 in or around the Aera, but with the contstruction i would miss that also one person said its bad as if ou shag a tg girl near there and bring home other they pay ya out thats if you care.

The Rg sounds great but i just dont liek up the hill.

Tims Beer bar i heard few floors up is good very chepa big rooma nd quiet.

Someone also told me read local newpaper stay in a condo they r cheaper then a motel get a miad exspcially if stay for a month or more so thats always a option apprently sometimes some little disrance but long a son a baht route sounds good espically if travelling with mates.

Well be a hwile before i go there i think and also now share me holiday in philipines Ac as lot chepaer for grog and women and some sexy babes in Thiland i ahve many sites about accomadation in Ac if anyone want any.

So hope to get there end of year around september unless one of me close board mates shouts me a trip lol

MAybe next time might stay where tng tong said or Sabi zOut fo the way a bit proabrly end back at the penthouse.

I'm always up for an adventure. So I'm always willing to try something new. Just because I've stayed somewhere doesn't mean that's the best place. For all I know the place next door is even better. If I were going tomorrow I'm not sure where I'd stay. Sometime I'd like to try the Hard Rock, just to waste money and have the luxury of the pool. I wonder what the talent is like there late at night?

Last trip I stayed mostly in the Sabai Lodge (three weeks), with a week at the Windy Inn at the beginning of my trip. The Windy Inn is at the quiet end of Walking Steet and has no phones. Nobody could bother me there if they wanted to. Great ocean view. Good pool and reataurant across the street, and it's just a short walk to the action at night. A little expensive, though.

Sabai Lodge is good in its own right. Great pool, great location. I could imagine staying there for a few months.

In Bangkok I like the JW Marriott just to unwind. The Majectic Suites is also good.

My favorit place in Phuket got washed away, it looks like, so I'll have to find a new place there.

I stayed at Sabai Inn and Areca my first time out.

Acrea is just a few years old. I had a great experience staying there. The rooms were nicely designed. Very light and airy with a balcony. A little off the beaten path if you like things quiet. It's about a block back from 2nd road but Pattaya is so small you are never too far from where you want to be.

CheshireTom make a great point about Sabai Inn as quoted above. During my first trip I hadn't bf'd more than one girl at a time but I plan to e-recitfy that. Sabai Inn standard rooms do have huge beds and large showers (no tubs which I hate). Someone also posted that they now have in room safes which I like.

Can't decided where to stay myself. Decisions, decisions.

North Side of town: Sabai Lodge..new wing South Side: the Residence Garden

Why: Relatively large-sized, clean rooms. Both far enough away from the action so it's quiet at night. Both close enough to the action it's only a 5 minute baht bus ride away. Price is right at about 1300-1400 baht per night. No problem with guests.

Todays good hotel, may not be attractive tomorrow. Have stayed at the Nova Lodge several times. But poor staff attitude and increased prices caused me to move. Stayed at Pattaya Centre Hotel many times. Loved the location. But new ownership took over, increased prices and catered to cheapie Chinese tour groups. Made me crazy. Tried the Haven Hotel. Loved the location, but the manager's snooty attitude drove me away. Stayed at the High Five once. And only once! Enough said. Stayed at what used to be called the U Hotel several times. Good location in the north end, but the Japanese owner was an ass-hole. Fired his Thai manager to save the salary and thought he could manage it himself. BIG mistake! He went bust and was bought out by the "Mike" people who renovated and now call it the Mike Beach Resort. Nice. Stayed at the Sabai Lodge MANY times, and loved it! But bought a small condo two plus years ago and so haven't kept up with the hotel scene. At least the price increases don't affect me now.
