Pattaya Beach

It occured to me that during my "recharging" periods, I may enjoy laying on the beach rather than poolside. I have seen many pics of the beach in Jomiten, but very few of Pattaya beach. What I have seen of Pattaya beach is many boats and other crafts. So now I'm wondering, does Pattaya have a nice beach to lay on or is the beach and water polluted and congested? I'm staying at the Areca Lodge and I understand it's not far from the beach. Is the Beach in Pattaya a nice/clean place to chill out?

Here's Pattaya Beach today...not a lot of room to lay down due to the high tide during the day. Of course, the tides change and some days there is lots of beach. By the way, this picture was taken about 4pm.

Thanks for the post -that really helps! It does not seem like such a great place to chill out. If one is permitted to drink on the beach, I imagine there must be many drunken, floating dead farangs as well? Why so many umbrellas? what ever happened to laying out in the sun?

The water quality at Pattaya beach has a very poor reputation, but during my recent trip I went for a swim, in common with a few others, and saw no undesirable objects and have suffered no after effects - but maybe I am lucky.

I find the beach quite pleasant - you can sit down, read and chat to friends and your girl. A selection of drinks and food is always available from both the proprietor of your beach section and from vendors who are moving up and down. A whole variety of goods and services are on offer - clothing, watches, wooden elephants, ice cream, massage, temporary tatoes. A chair is only about 20 baht all day. The unbrellas are needed because of the fierce tropical sun - you never see Thais lying in the sun - only farangs with not much sense.

Incidentally the beach seems to be disappearing - there seems much less of it compared with when I first visited Pattaya 4 years ago.

You dont see drunk farangs (dead or alive)- they are still in bed during the day !.

The beach is about a 15 minute walk from the Areca Lodge.

I do like lounging on the beach as well; some mornings that's all I can manage depending on the extent of the previous night's adventures. There is something inherently rewarding about vegging out on a lounge chair, buying the occasional snack or beverage or perhaps a massage from a passing vendor. I'll often have my CD player with me, listening to some classical music over the headphones to drown out any noise from other tourists, the Beach Road traffic, and the powerboats running out to the islands. For me, a very, very relaxing way to while away a few hours.

 

As far as the water goes, I've waded in it waist-deep but I'm reluctant to do anything more than that. Swallowing any of that nasty effluent-tainted stuff is bound to cause trouble, particularly for us poor farang who haven't developed any natural immunity to the strains of bacteria that are bound to be there.

I like to spend the day on the beach, I prefare the stretch at the bottom of Soi 9 near the police station.

Hi Tengotodo you might get in touch with Emil and go with him on one of his regular trips to Koh Lahrn an island just 40 mins away and only 20 baht each way

the beaches on the far side of the island are fabulous and when I went not too crowded. Lamae (think thats right)beach is the best and the food is good and cheap as is the jet ski so you should have a great time on your own or with company (i did both)so PM emil he is I believe in town at the moment and is good company and he introduced me to the Blues factory a place I may never have found if not for him and for that alone I am in his debt

the beachs on the islands are nicer, but the water has just as my plastic bags and stuff floating around.

nothing wrong with the beach in pattaya, granted it's not bora bora, but for just longing around and soaking up a few rays, ok, can even rent a jet ski for 5-600bt for half hour to cool down or go out to the parasail platform if you so desire.

pattaya beach has to be about 5-7k's long so you can fins a spot

About two years ago, Pattaya brought on line a sewage treatment plant but there are a few pipes dumping raw waste into the bay. If you want to swim go to Jomtiem and go far down the beach as possible and away from civilization.

Not at all what I would term "ideal". Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to Pattaya specifically for the beach, but just a nice place to recouperate between drunks and shags. BTW, do FL's or BGs walk the beach in search of customers?

About 6 months ago, I read a report in one of the local rags about the quality of the water at Pattaya beach compared to 5 years ago or before they came online with the water treatment plant. The conclusion was that the beach water at pattaya beach was much cleaner than before, was safe for swimming, and in fact, was cleaner than Jomtien Beach because Jomtien still dumped raw sewerage in the bay and was doing more so now because the population was growing.

The water on Pattaya beach is filthy.

Jomtien is not much better. Better off spending the day at the Water park. At least there you can relax without somebody trying to sell you something every 30 seconds.

The back pool at the Areca Lodge is much nicer than any beach in Pattaya.

You also avoid the hassle of beach vendors, noisy and possibly rabid dogs, and a 10 minute walk in the blazing sun.

55 days to go for me, will be staying in the Areca Lodge and enjoy the pool too,

 

When I want a nice beach, I'll go to Koh Samui or the Krabi region.

Thats right, and they booked Bob Hope when he was a young man, to open the new Airport. He hung on as long as he could, but he gave up in the end.

What way do you walk?

I would say it's about 7 minutes if you walk thrue Mike's,and you get some aircon on the way.(And a look at all the pretty girls)

Baxer - Yes you are right - it would be more like 7 mins not 15. At 15 it would be about 1 Km for the average person and it is not that far. I was thinking more of from The Bakery (Soi Chiyapoon) where I often had breakfast , but the Areca is much closer.
