Please Help A Newbie...

Why is this in the funnies section ?

Because, with 1300+ posts, OnMyWay is hardly a newbie, and most of the posters responded to his post as a joke. If you follow some of the "advice" in this thread, be sure you have the number of an ambulance service on speed-dial. Chances are, you're going to need it!

Oh, I understood the sarcasm and did find some of the responses funny; but then I've been on the board long enough to recognize it was sarcasm.

But a true newbie might not recognize it as such.

Some of the "advice" like walking on the beach at midnight could put an inexperienced newbie at risk. I also understand from my reading that there is never a fight between a farang and a Thai. It may start that way but it always seems to end uo as a fight between a farang and 10-15 Thais - not a healthy situatuation if you are the newbie farang. In any dispute, the "rich" farang always pays - one way or another. Best to avoid disputes with Thais.

IMO some of you guys should simply lighten up a lot and consider that this is posted in the FUNNIES SECTION,I am sure that most of you are in fact familiar with Mark and realise that he has posted a lot of good information regarding Pattaya, and unless you are absolutely stupid there is no way that he could be considered a "Newbie" by any stretch of the imagination, especially with 1300 posts to his credit.

Whilst I can see a certain amount of concern as expressed by some posters that a true newbie could be misguideded by the tongue in cheek advice given on occasion, there is no way that after reading further that the only conclusion that can logically be reached is that it is simply a sarcastic reply to the many repetative boring questions that appear on this site in a seemingly endless stream, that in most cases could be answered by a few minutes research using the "search" button provided.

I ask you guys to lighten up and recognise this funny,IMO,post in the context in which it was placed, and if you cannot then I for one feel only pity at your lost sense of humor,if indeed you have ever had one.

Keep up the good work Mark and don't worry room 13 has now been completely remodelled/renovated and is awaiting your return. :chogdee2 :clap1 :clap2

Ha, good one Steve-o. You didn't really expect us to believe that people should be expected to use their brains (even if they are abnormally tiny) when browsing the internet and especially when reading this forum. Everyone knows that the net should be taken literally and unquestioningly, but you had me going for a minute.

Does that mean you got rid of the snakes? :D

Hope you're back in Patters the end of April, Mark. I'm thinking another afternoon tour in Jontein with or without SF Dude will be in order. :nod

Maybe I can even win a game of pool next trip.

Okay, that last part is probably not in the cards.

Actually, everyone is a newbie at least once and these sorts of questions are relevant to newbies.  We can laugh and make fun of them but this forum will always welcome newbies and answer their questions.  It's no bother to me and I enjoy initiating yet another new soul into the mysterys of Pattaya.

It is possible to do a search and all these questions are covered but newbies always fear that everything has changed in the last two days so want to be reassured that things are still as they have read.

On my first trip to Thailand I was severely ripped off in one of the infamous upstairs bars at Patpong.  If a board such has this had existed in those days I would have been much wiser and saved myself a lot of grief.

So go ahead newbies and ask your questions.  Some members here are happy to give you a helpful pointer to what is likely to become a lifelong addiction.

Some classic responses, and as amply demonstrated on this thread, newbies asking the same ol' questions are not only tolerated but extremely well treated compared to some boards I have stumbled upon, where members take themselves too seriously.

There's a guy called BiGDUSA told me a guy named Alex is a good driver who shows up sometimes and knows where the Skyslop Hotel is.

BTW, I heard the baht bus is only 10 baht, did they reduce the fare from 50?

I paid 50 last trip but sometimes I tipped 20 too. The guys give me that beautiful Thai smile every time.
