alan;

Before May 31, CATHAY to Bangkok from JFK should be about $700 (or $850 w/ taxes). Includes a non-stop jfk-hk which cuts down travel time. Also, it's a much better airline than the domestic carriers, IMO( food, ife, service).

Only cons I can think of are having to use JFK and Asia Miles program not asgood as some others.

THAI airlines Non-stop from JFK to BKK (17 hours) for $1595. Delta can do it in 23 hours for $1300 from JFK and $1100 from PHL. Agree with previous posts as it pertains to THAI. (only accrue 1/2 the FF miles with Royal Orchid). Paid $1000 from PHL to BKK for Dec/Jan flight, but ticket was purchased before prices spiked. This is a pretty good site.. QIXO.com Aslo, StarAlliance.com will check all the flights for partner airlines.

Alan:

One more thing to know about the Cathay flight (which so far seems about $300 less than your next alternative), is that Cathay allows a free stopover in Hong Kong.

Thats what we are doing on our return flight during June, for the same reasons you stated and also to see a friend in HK. We are hanging in HK for a day and overnight, and then we get the non-stop flight back that gets back in JFK at 2 pm.

Jet Blue flies into JFK, BTW - I was trying to hook up flights for someone from Boston and it was around $40-50 each way to JFK on Jet Blue.

Check out Thai Airways. I flew them from JFK to BKK last month. Seems to me I paid around $1,000 counting taxes ect. Best feature is they have a non-stop flight from JFK to BKK that arrives in BKK at 4:00 PM. Advertised flight time is 17 hrs but they do a little better than this. This saves you quite a bit of time as there are no connecting flights and the time wasted between these flights. The other airlines flying from the east coast always seem to arrive at around 11:00 pm at the same time several large flights arrive and this slows you down waiting for customs and immigration in BKK.

Thai Airways seats offer more room than Cathy Pacific in coach and Thai also offers a premium coach class if you are interested for about $200 more each way with lots of room. It is much nicer arriving in the afternoon than at 11 pm at night and clearing the airport after midnight.

Look for deals on Thai Air by messing with the dates. You can change your depart or return by one day and the price may (or may not) drop or rise.

JFK - BKK Direct dep. 3/29 - ret. 4/15 $1080

Last November I paid $901 for the same flight.

The direct flight is a dream come true IMHO. I have gone through Tokyo and London in the past so I can compare.

I have also flown the NY, Chicago, Tokyo, BKK NIGHTMARE and lived...don't take this at any price. Something like 28 hrs total.

Stay up and party most of the night before you go. Get on the plane, have lunch, force yourself to stay awake through dinner and a couple of movies. Crash hard for 9 hrs and wake up a nice meal, washup and in a couple of hours you will be in a car headed for Pattaya.

The arrival time on the direct flight gets you in at 5pm instead to 11pm as many of the other flights out of JFK do.

The Cathay flight looks decent for the price as well. I have considered trying them, but, all my air miles are w/ star.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out,

Sailfast

I would love to try that nonstop Thai flight from JFK but it leaves at 11am I believe and there are no early morning flights from Fort Myers to JFK. I would have to spend the night in NY and I don't think thats worth it for me.

LBJ,

Thai flies non stop from LAX.

Sailfast,

I've made the 'nightmare' trip many times and I know at the end of the line what's waiting for me and that makes it all worthwhile. Matter of fact, I'm booked Philly-SFO-NRT-BKK, 1 May and looking forward to the end of the line. :cry1

Yeah, actually that JFK flight leaves at 12 noon during the summer months so I could make the connection if I drove to Miami and flew from there. Still its 300 bucks more total than my longer Delta/Korean flights. Too bad I'm so poor which leads to being cheap.

Just curious as to the cheapest RT flight anyone here ever paid for JFK (east coast only) to BKK and back( please include all taxes and fees into final price). Lets set time frame within the past 5 years.

Seems only the real good deals are on the West coast? including package deals.

The cheapest I ever saw was during the asian SAR / 9-11 disaster. As most flights were nearly empty, Saw some asian airlines advertising RT for under $600 (all taxes included)!!!!!! Too bad I was not able to get away at the time or wouldve jumped at that price.

Anyone seen any prices lower than this? :D

Cheapest flight from JFK-BKK on Cathay Pacific was $88USD return. With taxes it was $157. The fare was a mistake but they honored it. Second cheapest fare was Philly to SIN on NW for $325 including taxes.

Both EVA and Cathay Pacific have some good flights out of the west coast in the early hours, 1:00-2:00 am that have you in BKK before noon. 18-19 hours including the stop over in Taipei or Hong Kong.

That gives me enough time for a shower, a nap and some sight-seeing at Welkom Inn before the sun goes down! :wtf

holy shit. they honored the $157? Lucky man. Generally speaking, what is the best price you've paid for low season sans error? though not low season, my early July flight on THAI is costing me $1590 n/s. I think I should have waited instead of booking so many months in advance. I have FF miles with several airlines. Anyone want to work a deal?

Bro,I though early July generally is low season in LOS and high season starts after NOV-mid March.

I've seen low season RT east coast-BKK as low as $850( when the sales are on) but average price are around $1100 even in low season and over $1300 in high. Note: the lower price flights ALWAYS include at least 1 and maybe 2 stop overs.

I think your $1590 on Thai is higher than average cause they usually do charge more than others( talking normal prices and not company sales) and dont forget you generally also pay a bit more for the Non-stop flights. I think the only other one charging more without any discounts is Japan Airlines on a regular basis. At least these were the trends I saw when I did my checks for best prices to BKK.

Bro Big DUSA

I can understand the Cathay Pacific error price and U were lucky to book that, I know these are rare but happens, but was the NW to Sin also an error or this was regular company sales price :sosad

BTW: whats the best way to catch these deals as I seem to only hear about them 6 months after its all over and also not having to spend every waking moment checking internet for changes in prices.

Thanks

Hey Dude flying out of Charlotte is tough but do what I do...get a US Air or Air Trans flight to LAX and then take Eva, Cathay or China Air. I'm leaving in 3 weeks for $1100 which is the Highest I've ever had to pay for a Trip to Asia but it's worth it. Anyway Check these websites and see if they can help.

Check out Airtran, they have a sale every other week. They fly into NY at LGA, take the schutle bus from there over to JFK for $13. If you have to spend the night in NY there is a days Inn just outside the airport which is reasonable and they take you to the airport in the morning. Get there early in the morning and you can get an exit row seat. Thai Airways does not assign exit row seats until the day of flight and they want to see if you look like you could open the door.

Sorry about the delay in responding. Just saw your post. NWA was booked right after 9/11. Travel sites I like are travelzoo.com and flyertalk.com for mistake fares. I find the cheapest fares are 15 January thru 15 May and again after 15 September thru 1 December. I'm afraid the days of cheap airfares are over as the price of gas goes thru the roof.

Checked the site. United is charging $1500. However, THAI is flying non stop those days for $1080. Not bad, really considering my June flight on THAI cost $1600. <grin
