Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Lots of mixed reports when it comes to Hard Rock and Dusit.

I have never tried so I don't know.

Seems the safest is to book through the hotel, and book a double.

Even better, send them an e-mail. Print the answer if they say it's OK.

A mate of mine stayed at the Hard Rock a couple of years ago so this info may be a bit out of date, but he told me they had a joiners fee of 800bht. <huh <huh :eyecrazy

Yes this is 100% true .

The Dusit is not guest friendly and will embarass you to pay their additional guest rate.

Pass on this hotel unless you want to try their Saturday dinner buffet which is exceptional.

Hard Rock has different views as far as guest policy. In my opinion, I would never stay in any hotel that charges me for bringing a woman to my room if I claim two people when I check in and pay for my room per day rates.

Samsonite,

Sorry if I'm a blind ass but does this have Internet Connection? And wireless or wired? Router or LAN type?

Sorry, not at this time.

However, I have been told by management that if there is the demand, it will be installed.

:sh :clap2 :clap2 :clap2

After a few days of wondering if The Golden Crab has sufficient hot water I figured out if you turn the handle so the Mark or Dot on Top is all the way to your right, clockwise, and then lift it so it comes on, in a few seconds you will get more extremely HOT water

Genius !!

:sorry

Genius !!

Did you read the whole paragraph?

The faucet was installed backwards.

However, anywhere else I've stayed, backwards or not, if you start in the middle and work one way or the other you get more hot or cold water. With this faucet if you started in the middle you never got, for whatever reason, water hot enough to take a shower. Unless, of course, you prefer lukewarm showers.

Thanks for the review - can you post a picture of the pool? Is it really big enough to swim in? I do serious lap swimming for exercise everyday/

Thanks,

Sorry, I don't have a picture of the pool. I can say that while it is an attractive pool and big enough to swim in, I would not consider it big enough for serious lap swimming. The main pool at the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2 would be perfect for that purpose.

Did I miss "are they guest friendly beyond ladyboys"?

Thanks for the info on this place!

:beer

They are very girlfriend friendly, but unless there has been a change in policy in the last few months, they do state, in print, in no uncertain terms, that they do not want the business of certain individuals who, one might say, are.... confused about their sexual orientation?

The bed is perfectly adequate for 2, but too small for 3, so if you are into all night threesomes it won't be comfortable.

An update on The Golden Crab, from the owner, Mr. Wales.

"We have finished the renovation of the original Crab, so all the apartments are now at the same standard.

I am looking for someone to run the coffee shop as I have no experience of this nor the time to do it properly.

At present the swimming pool has two skimmers to collect the things that float on the surface. We are having the rim around the pool removed and an overflow system substituted because it improves the appearance, and works better  (the skimmers become brittle, in the sun, and crack causing leekage). We hope to get this done in August as it is usually our quietest time. Removing the rim may take up to two weeks and will be rather a noisy job. Once the pool has been modified and completely re-tiled the surrounding area will be relayed and resurfaced. Then the area between the pool and the road will be finished and the front wall replaced. By this time we will hopefully have made a satisfactory arrangement fo the operation of the coffee shop.

As soon as it is finished we will establish a web site for the crab.

With effect from the 1st of November there will be a new pricing structure. This will mean that the first three floors will stay at the current rentals for upper floors, and the top three floors (with sea views) will cost B2,000 per month more. We hope this pricing structure will remain unchanged till at least 2010."

If you have any questions or would like to make a reservation, please send your e-mail to, Mr. David Wales, thegoldencrab@hotmail.com

Someone has asked the question so I thought I would add that the Golden Crab does have remote controlled air conditioning.

Scalawag:

Thank you for the informative and detailed post, including the pics, as is typical of most of your posts. :thumbup After staying at almost only one-bedroom suites in and around Pattaya over the last 5-6 years, this place seems a real gem in terms of price, location, etc.

I am only wondering if it a proper place to have a wife and kid around; on a solo trip it seems a no brainer. I am so familiar with Soi 13/PostOffice/etc it would be a great place for me.

Hub and Bullfrog,

I don't see why not. It seems like a very quiet apartment complex.

I rarely heard any noise and never saw any of the other guests with their "love of their life du jour." :thumbup

I too am interested in staying at the golden crab in May for 7 nights this year.

I was staying at the Inn house( Min 1000 bht night,no table & chair, no tea/coffee/cooking facilities, but still good value) which is right next door to the crab, and could see from the balcony that the apartments looked ok, at that time, they wouldnt take short term bookings

i have sent an email to David, who promptly replied, 6500 bht week i bedroom, 9500 bht 2 bedroom, with a deposit of 5000 bht to cover damage, fair enough.

But i am wondering what the weekly tariff rate would be for electric and water for the average user would be?

any answers appreciated

Cheers

Colin
