I can't wait to get to Pattaya...I live in Baltimore city Maryland which has the highest murder rate per capita in the US. If you count the supposedly self inflicted gun shot wounds ( some in the back of the head with hands tied  ) last year we had just over 350 murders. Sounds Like Pattaya is the place for me :D

I never felt any danger at all while waling the sois of Pattaya at 3 and 4 am. But then, I'm not a picnic basket either. I think Pattaya is very safe. Always filled with tourists. You might get into trouble if you go looking for it in out of the way places.

ive been going to thailand for 20 odd years now, (pattaya about 15) i feel much much safer walking around pattaya than in the uk. (theres no way youd catch me walking around alone in the early hours of the morning in cardiff!) just as everybody else says use your common sense! dont take the piss out of the thais! (surprisingly a lot of farang do! , and the majority live to regret it!) youll have a great ime there!

I have been visiting thailand for 10 years and lived in Pattaya for the past 18 months. The reality is the only trouble you will find is the type you have gone looking for. most farangs killed or hurt out here have put themselves in harms way due to the stupidity of their actions.

DO NOT ever get invloved in an argument between a Thai man and his girl.

DO NOT make yourself a target by wearing expensive jewellery and splashing cash around like you are the King - remember there are some very very poor people here who may just want to redistribute your wealth.

DO NOT get so drunk you do not know where you are if you are on your own

DO NOT trust people until you have taken the time to get to know them.

DO NOT believe everything you are told - e.g. just because after 2 minutes she says she loves you doesn't mean its true!

DO NOT get involved with drugs and dealers

Now all of these rules you would apply at home so why on earth would you not follow them here?

You will now have a great time in Asias adult playground and go home desparate to book for another visit!

There is good and bad in every city.

if you asked a 1000 members living here or been here on holidays have they seen anything bad happen,it would be a small percentage to say yes, including me and i been coming for 18 yrs and now live here.

you see more getting killed riding the big bikes around half pissed or showing off

if you are worried get a hotel close to the action

I agree with you 100%, You get your good and bad everywhere and I think you have just as bigger chance of getting mugged in some parts of Australia, Melbourne being the only place and time I have been mugged.

You are spot on, you have hit the nail on the head with those words of advice, the most important thing is to use your common sense.

follow the rules & you should be fine. i've walked up & down beach rd/2nd road around 2 or 3 am in the morning, sometimes even on my own & no trouble at all, just the "welcome hansum man" greeting in your ears. good exercise though!

Tourists are by and large extremely safe. As has been said, if you put yourself in a position or situation that would be dangerous at home, expect the worst.

Make sure you put on your 'Pattaya Hat' when you turn off Sukummvit.

There's no industry here. No sensible jobs. It only exists thanks to money coming in from outside. So keep the money coming in and it's safe'ish

Hi,

if you want to know how safe it is then please have a look at this Documentary for sale on eBay. It answers the points mad my Maxim magazine in March 2000 saying it was the most dangerous place on the planet and many more interesting subjects. The first of it kind.

I have been looking on these pages for some time and realised their is alot of peolpe looking for advise which is greatly given by the expierenced users.

I am a documentary film maker and I have made my last film on Pattaya. filmed in April this year. Many media and TV go to Pattaya and have a dig at it and tell the wrong story of just sex and crime etc.

My film is about the true life there and advise for poeple who have never been before.

Its 45 minutes long with 8 interviews from many well know people who lived in the city for many years and still to this day. Its basicaly explains how the city all works. abit like the books you can buy but in a film format, and unlike the books you know its real life advise, not a made up into a story.

it took 6 months to make and if you are a regular visitor to the city you will see many familar faces within the film.

if anybody is interested in taking a detailed look into what its all about and the reasons into why I made the film then please type in 'Pattaya' on ebay or go to my company website www.eggtvuk.co.uk

Thank you for your time.

Paul Everett

Any questions then just ask!

Lot's of great advice! Yes, Pattaya is safe if you let common sense prevail.

If you are the conservative, cautious type person at home and you apply the same princliples here, you will do just fine. If you stay to the tourist areas of town, you will do fine.

Do' adn Don't have already been posted, but this again applies to common sense. Just remember that you are a visitor in a foreign country. Act accordingly.

It's been said many, many times before that the most danger you will probably face is crossing 2nd Road.

Rockin'

Hi,

It's quite safe as long as you use your commonsense. Most of these incidents involve people who live in Pattaya and usually there is some reasons behind them. When you are in and out on holiday you are unlikely to upset anyone and should have a great time. :D :D :D

Stay home, lock all doors and never leave. All we have to fear is fear itself.

all good advice......but I'd add one more thing.....stay off the beach at night......particularly if you are drunk/alone!!!

or if you can't swim and NEVER turn your back on the surf.

I have never had any problems in Pattaya. As most people have stated just use common sense but my girl has told me to stay away from the beach at night. This is the area that seems to have problems
