Hi Guys, in response a post I make about retirement places one of your members who was really helpful mentioned a place that had a fish market where just about every type of fish was available. Not knowing much about warm water types of fish would like to know which type is your favorite, and how do you like it prepared. As for me, I like orange ruffy fried in a cornmeal batter but know that many like it deep fried, broiled, steamed, etc. Just curious here and no big deal but a good fish meal is hard to beat if done right. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

I actually prefer prawns myself :D

Hi,

 

Apart from the ladies the seafood is a big reason I love LOS. :D Had some great seafood meals there. Had a great meal in Patong first time I was in LOS, had 2 French guys with me and they loved it too and you know how hard they are to please when it comes to food. Tried to find the restaurant this time but couldn't, maybe it's long gone.

Yes I have to agree, the seafood is excellent here. There is one that I like on Walking street where you can sit out on a pier and choose your own and they cook it for you.

Don't you love those responses that really answer the original question!

 

Grouper is common here, a bit like what UK people call cod. Red and white snapper. My favourite is a flatfish called pomfrey, also cotton fish (I think). I also go for the large mackerel. I think part of the fun is trying them.....

 

I avoid deep frying a fish as you seem to be cancelling out the low fat benefits, but a fat lady on Koh Chang ,who ran a little food place gave me the impression that wrapping it in tin foil with some vegies, spices and garlic, and dump it on a barbecue while you drink a few beers is best.

 

The fiddly aspect of seperating the flesh from the bones is easy, you get a girlfriend. She does it.

Thanks Jacko, good someone here payed attention to the question and your answer gives me a good idea of the types of fish there, quess the other guys just having a little fun and not a probelm to me. Sure wish more or you will chime in here and I should have qualified the quesion to exclude shrimp and squid, just the fish guys. Thanks again, have a good one and enjoy. Old Bud

Have a walk down walking street and check out the restaurants on both sides of the street. If you look closely there are fish awuariums with all sorts of fish from grouper to shark, to catfish, etc. Yes shark, on the left side of walking street towards the end...

Shark is great grilled or fried just dont eat the skin, peel the skin off and the meat is sweet....

 

Red snapper is another one that you will see a lot on ice as well as pomfret which is great fried crisp with some hot basil sauce on it after or on the side if you want it to stay crispy.
