Thai lounge at heathrow

Recommended Posts

I will be using this service in November for the first time, has anyone tried it. If it is like the one in Thailand it will be ecellent.

Thai doesn't have a lounge at Heathrow. They use the star alliance one belonging to SAS/Air Canada.

Ive used it twice! Its alright too, usual stuff, free drinks, light snacks and showers, tv etc. It has an "upstairs"! too, which didnt get as busy as the ground floor! Not luxurious , but miles and miles better than just trying to find a seat in the departure hall!

It's called the "London Lounge" & is directly opposite the entrance to the gates from the duty free area. SAS operate it and it is used by various airlines including EVA Air. Just recently it appears that another airline has started using it: on my trip in June this year it was very crowded with a lot of noisy & ill mannered arabs and their children.

Was in the London Lounge on Thursday night again. It is OK and the smoking room is fine for a change. Limited booze selection and food just passable. Cleaners are crap also and be careful as they do not make anouncements on flights.

Only PAX travelling Premium Laurel with EVA get lounge access UNLESS they hold a Silver or higher Evergreen card. In both cases you need an invitation which you should get at check in, if you don't be sure to ask for one. The check in staff are from Air Canada and sometimes forget. Lastly EVA have been steadily downgrading the value of the FF cards and I think it will not be long before Lounge access is only granted to Gold or higher card holders.

Can EVA Elite class users use this lounge?

This time last year i flew elite class to bkk. I used 5,000 miles from Evas frequent flyer pregramme, to get an invite to the "london lounge". This was done at evas ticket desk, and not at check-in. Best thing was, the 5,000 miles i used to pay for the pass were "dead" miles anyway!

I was in the London Lounge about 10 days ago, although I was flying BR/econ :behead

One thing not mentioned is the lounge has a nice shower area, so you can freshen up and remove your clinkers before the long flight to BKK.

Cold Singhas readily available in the fridge to get you in the mood for Thailand.

Marleyboy summed it up well, its better than finding a seat in the departure hall + the drinks and newspapers are free.

For me the lounge in London is just same same as many other airline lounges around the world, not one of the best and nothing to write home about, but if its your first time or you are not used to airline lounges then enjoy. One aspect I liked was the crisps ...took two packs on the plane with me, went well with G&T's.

A big negative is they wanted to charge GBP 10 charge for Wifi access which is normally free in other airline longes. I poiltely declined to pay. There are computers available with web access and also separate free dial up access facility but the dial up is no good for travellers who don't have a UK ISP and I (probably like many others) don't use open access computers for accessing confidential sites e.g. bank accounts, personal and work email, and sharedealing accounts.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thai Airways used to have their own lounge at LHR but it became prohibitively expensive to run. I know the Manager of Thai at LHR and he seems to think the SAS lounge is adaquate, but no more. They use this lounge as SAS is the ground handling agent for Thai at LHR. But as SAS only have economy and business class on their flights, they do not have a separate 1st class lounge, which I believe Thai would like.

If you have a Star Alliance Gold card you can use any of the other Star Alliance lounges if the SAS one is too busy. United has one at lounge G, and Singapore has one on the way down to the new gates built for the A380.

I recently visited the new Emirates lounge. They used to use the UA lounge, but have had their own one constructed. This one is really nice. It is above gate 5 and 7 and has an amazing view of the runway. It has a business centre, hot food, showers etc. They also request their aircraft to be parked on gate 5 and 7, and when it is time to board you simply go out of the back door of the lounge, down an esculator and straight onto the jetty, and onto the aircraft. No need to queue up getting into the busy gate downstairs at all.
