LAX to BKK in May/June

Does anyone know any deals? Eva is quoting $870 including tax, round trip economy with a stop in Singapore. Last November I got the same flight for $810. I'd prefer not to ride economy again, but my budget may no allow a bump. Thanks in advance.

Prices are up across the board. Whatever was cheaper last year is going to be more expensive this year. It's even worse going the other way, i.e. starting in Bangkok. My own 37,000 baht return ticket to middle America went to 53,000 last year and is currently "just over 61,000" my travel agent informs - PLUS the US dollar has tanked so in effect I've gone from about $800 to $1,600 in two years.

 

That's not bargain hunting, but it is what's happening to fares to/from the US/Thailand and the Pacific.

 

My daughter in the US informed me last week she will get a student-discount ticket to Bangkok and return for $810.

 

The news is not good on US airfares.

Grab it. My ticket for next week was $956 up $75 from March.

 

Part of difference from last year will be the inclusion of the Thai airport tax

Because it's not the low season. It's the student season, which is VERY high. Low season is, oh, February to early May. (A lot of US schools are out in mid-May.)

Is it true, then, that a lot of families go on vacation to Thailand? Or that planes themselves are at a premium due to vacationers going to other destinations? I think the $875 flight from LAX is a good deal, all things considered. I'm going in June/July from the East Coast and the prices start at $1250 all in. And for that princely sum you get to travel 33 hours with 2 big layovers.

First, if you can get an EVA economy from LAX to Bangkok, regardless of stop-overs, for under $900.00 and you are comfortable toughing it out in coach, you best grab it.

I am a long-time EVA customer, tried my best to find an EVA flight LAX-BKK towards the end of June for under $1000.00 and couldn't find a thing.

 

I've booked the Premium Economy direct flight on Thai airways, but almost double what you think you can pay for economy. So probably not what you are looking for.

 

I am one of those who also question why the prices have gone nuts, but the airlines will tell you its due to the fuel surcharges have gone up 4 times since last year.

 

I believe that may be a factor, but most important summer is now just another high season, not quite as bad as XMas and Chinese New Year, but pretty close.

 

When Thailand was not the family destination it is today, the only folks who flew there in the heat and wet of the summer were either the punters (like us), the backpackers with limited funds, or those going on business, with a smattering of students on holiday, a few families etc.

 

All that has changed as we've noticed, and because children are out of school and families want to travel together, and because once you're there Thailand is still a bargain and one of the safest places to travel with children, summer is now high season.

 

And for those of us who consider LOS a second home, yet wonder if there's anywhere else on earth where we can find the delights of Thailand at less travel time and expense, I would say that after months of research into all the other possibilities, I decided that I'd take the financial hit and go to where I am most at home, and that isn't Costa Rica, Brazil, Dominican Republic, certainly not Mexico. I'll be there in 7 weeks, and doubt I'll have any regrets about the cost!

It has nothing to do with vacations, it's students going home - Asian students in the US, American-Canadian students in Asia. When schools are out is when families move. Just the embassies alone in Thailand move hundreds of employees and thousands of people (families) - in each direction.

 

$875 from LAX is a very good fare indeed at the moment.

Yes .... airfare is up across the board. And with the US $ in the tank, I almost considered giving up on my annual trip to the LOS. But I was hunting for Frequent Flier flights and all of a sudden there was availability for a busness class flight LAX-BKK. Well, you didn't have to ask me twice! I am booked for 3 weeks in Nov! I recently checked and this availability is now gone, but if you stay vigilent and check regularly a few seats pop up from time to time. With prices this high use your FF mileage if you have it!

 

I priced the same flight out and if I had paid it would have been $6000+ US. I feel good about going back to the LOS again!

I think what season it is in your own country makes a difference. Here in Australia flights are currently as low as $800au with Airlines such as Thai, even cheaper with discount airlines such as Jetstar, right through until the end of our winter. I can book a flight over Christmas time, which is our main Holiday season, for no less than $1450au, even more expensive as the year evolves, Jetstar were $1000au if you booked for Jan 2008 back in Feb 2007.

Absolutely. As I said above, it is end-of-school in Canada and the US, end-of-school for international students in Thailand. When school is out is when companies and embassies and so on move their people. There is a VERY high demand for North America-Thailand flights at this time of year, even though it is the tourist off-season.

 

If I'm not mistaken, the Oz end-of-school is also Christmas-New Year and of course mid-summer??? That must be a wonderful experience, trying to book cheaply at that time.

Likewise UK summer prices are escalating beyond belief in uk, but which happens to coincide with low season in Thailand.
