Ranking: top restaurants - Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I think it is time for some rankings. What are your top-three favorite restaurants in the following categories?

Note 1: please include the street name (e.g. resturant x on Soi y)

Note 2: please rate the restaurants based on the quality of the eat-in food. In other words, the quality of the ladies you met in a restaurant and then took out to your hotel to feast on them does not count in these rankings.

Japanese restaurants:

1.

2.

3.

Thai/Laos

1.

2.

3.

Korean

1.

2.

3.

Vietnamese/others SE Asia

1.

2.

3.

Cheers :D

There are no good restaurants in Pattaya :D

Seriously, just came back from Phuket. The gogo's suck..the beer bars rock (okay only a couple of sois of them..the rest are as dead as Nakula in a rain storm) and the serious food options are without end. A very nice place to go if you like to eat. Pattaya restaurants are rated on how much water has been left on the plate between washing and serving the next customer. Don't go to Pattaya to eat.

I'm gonna have to agree with my Bro Grimm-

Pattaya food has a lot to be desired. While there in March, I went to a few supposedly "high end" dining places in Pattaya with a few Thai friends who came down for a visit from BKK.

I noticed it tasted no better than the small hole-in-the-wall places (which can be found ALL over Pattaya), but the portions were about 1/2 the size, and the check for the meal was double!

I say keep it simple when in Pattaya. I can strongly recommend the FUJI japanese restaurant chain (Big C has a nice one)- the menu can be a bit overwhelming though. I also liked M&K Hot Pot- cook your own meal after chosing different meats/veggies/seafood from the extensive menu. TGs seemed to like this place too- I guess it's healthy eating- which is paramount if you're a Thai girl trying to stay fit.

You should visit the tiny street food places when you're there- it'd be a shame if you missed trying that.

Haven't been to many of those choices, but this may help some people:

2007 map of many restaurants in Pattaya

Hey Tengotodo, thanks a lot for that link, this map is what I have been looking for. :finger

Hey saint, I read about Fuji at other places as well, I will visit there for sure. No Jap menu can overwhelm me, nothing to worry, I have been studying them for years :bj2

This M&K place, do you do the cooking or do you just pick the things to be cooked, just like the Mongolian Barbecues in the US?

And about those tiny street food places, I read a lot of diarrhea and upset stomach warnings on pattayasecrets yesterday. One guy was suggesting using bottled water even for brushing your teeth. Are those street food places (that I assume are assembled overnight) healthy? <grin

Wow- so many pressing questions! Let me see...

The FUJI menu goes on for pages and pages- it can be difficult to decide exactly what you want. Try the Thai-style sashimi salad- kind of different than Japanese versions that you get in the States. A little pricey compared to other places in LOS, but still a bargain compared to Japanese restaurant prices back home. I had a lavish sushi/sashimi lunch, with beverage and dessert, and the bill was under $20 usd. You simply cannot find deals like these back home, I'm afraid.

The M&K place is a typical hot pot place- you select what ingredients you want from the menu (veggies, fish, meats, noodles), and they bring it to your table. In the middle of it, there's a burner unit and a big cauldron filled with stock. You add the stuff you want to eat into the hot soup, and remove it with tiny wire baskets when they're done. Be sure to try the spicy Thai dipping sauce- really good with the green noodles. Worried about cooking? Do what I did- just sit back and let your TG do the work- she'll be happy to.

You know- I've NEVER gotten sick in Thailand, and I've eaten at all sorts of places- tiny food stalls on the sidewalk, small locals-only places, and even the infamous "deep fried bug" cart! I suppose it all depends on your constitution- do you normally get sick easily from eating the wrong foods? A tip when trying the street food- make SURE they cook it infront of you- never accept an already cooked item from them. Who knows when (or where) it was prepared...

Drinking bottled water in LOS is a good idea- I read on a website that Thailand has some of the most polluted water of any major city on Earth. I never had troubles with showering, washing my face, or brushing my teeth- just be aware to spit out any tap/shower water. If you are hit with an upset stomach after eating something, just pop an anti-diharreal pill (i.e. Lomotil). It might be a good idea to carry a small bottle with you.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

Cheap Eats are good in Patts if you like that sort of thing. Try KISS on Second Road. I eat there almost daily.

I agree the food in Kiss is good but don't go there because of the fucking hawkers. :banghead

Spidey.

Hmmmm, I've never been a fan of Kiss Food, but know a lot of farangs that like it. A few Thai girls have asked my why so many farangs like to eat there.

Okay, one good restaurant (though I might be swayed due to the interactions with the bar girls next door)..I believe its called the Blue Parrot a tex mex place bottom of the street Misty's is on (pattayaland 3?). They even make a real margaritta. KISS is a nice place to go if you like to walk away from a restaurant still feeding millions in your gut! Used to be a little English place in the same complex that did okay breakfast...though I would kill for a place that can do a real cheese omelette.

Tropical Bert's

Pig & Whistle

Queen Vic

Burger King

Palmer's on Pattayaland 2 is very reasonable and good quality. Sometimes, when Palmer is there, he puts an English curry on the menu.

To each his own, but calling Kiss a "top restaurant" seems a bit over the top as IMO neither the farang or Thai food is very good.

nobody filled in the questionair so I guess nobody eats in more than one place.

Pig & W was OK but rather expensive.

Kings Seafoor on Walking was good, but again expensive.

What I would like is a good seafood place at a low price. But it has to be clean.

You've only asked for Asian food JT.

Thai- The Jazz Pit in Soi 5 (I think) is a nice Thai restaurant and jazz club. Worth paying a bit more for.

Otherwise, more than any cuisine's I can name, there is little correlation between the price you pay for Thai food and the quality you get. Check around, find your own fave's.

Thai/Chinese seafood- Mom Aroi's in Naklua and on Third Rd is fine

-The one down the far end of Jomtien Beach Rd pretty good, but not as good as it was.

- Walking St, not good. Nang Nual probably the least mediocre.

Chinese- The Peak, at The Dusit Resort from memory (or is it the Royal Cliff?) is the best.

- The Rice Mill at the Marriott, Dim Sum very good

- Leng Kee on Pattaya Klang & Bukhao, more basic & cheaper

Viet- There is no decent Viet in Pattaya.

Korean- all I've seen is tour group stuff. Input welcome.

Jap- The best is Benihana in the Royal Garden Plaza imo. Sunday buffet is very good.

Fuji- reasonably good also, and cheaper.

Sabang mentioned the Jazz Pitt. It is on Soi 5, about half way between Beach Rd and Second Rd. The Jazz Pitt is actually a music venue. The attached restaurant is called PIC Kitchen (which stands for Pattaya International Clinic which is just behind it). The restaurant is my favorite in Pattaya, for the food - Thai, the service - excellent and the atmosphere - traditional, rustic. Reservations are recommended. The Jazz Club features mostly European musicians of top quality. Last few times I was there, there was a Russian keyboard and computer guy, an Austrian guitarist and a Filipina singer - all great! I think they start about 8pm. Weekends they have more musicians and often people sit in. I heard a Brit there last year who sounded EXACTLY like Frank Sinatra. I strongly recommend the kitchen and the pitt. Its a 'must visit' for every time I come to Pattaya.

Another Thai I should mention- Cabbages & Condoms, a beaut garden setting & sea view on the Pratamnak Hill. Well worth a visit.

To be honest, the food is only average for the price imo, but it's farang friendly, so you won't burn the roof of your mouth off.

It's a great place to take a lady for dinner. After dinner you can just go down the stairs and take a stroll on the beach.

Now that's some name for a resturant :D, I wonder where the name comes from?

Thanks for the suggestion puaa, asuming that they play live jazz as the name implies, this would be a great place to visit for dining. Thai food and jazz would be a very interesting combination too, new territory for me. Cheers :clap2

Just back from a month in Pattaya and the best place that I have ever eaten in since I 1st came in 2003 is Taj Mahal. Its opposite xcite disco. Got a chicken chat for starters and a lamb rogan josh with rice and garlic nan bread for main course. Along with 4 cokes and tip it cost 1000bt. It's dear compared to some places but well worth it. And the service was great too.
